Updated 2/18: Lake County eyes U.S. funds for road projects

Lake County is expected to receive more than $38 million for state road projects in the first phase of the federal stimulus package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama.
Funny, I don't see a single item mentioned in this article on the stimuluswatch.org website.
You are correct. I searched "Illinois Route 83" in this site and nothing is there.
However, after further research it states:
9. Why is my city not listed?
The data on this site comes from the U.S. Conference of Mayors' MainStreet Economic Recovery Report. If a city did not include its "shovel-ready" projects on that list, you won't find it here. However, this does not mean that cities that are not included here do not have projects they'd like to see funded. Once the stimulus bill passes, cites will make requests for federal grants, and we will likely see grants to projects not listed on this site.
Then, I found this article:
Here's the first portion of that article:
Nearly $54.5 million worth of road, bridge and intersection improvements in a 15-county area surrounding Springfield is included in a $693 million state transportation plan for federal economic stimulus money......
Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Milton Sees released the project list in an open letter on Friday.
“In order to access the first half of the highway stimulus funds coming to Illinois, the Illinois Department of Transportation has identified projects … that can be awarded quickly to put people to work in the construction industry and to utilize the upcoming construction season,” Sees said in the letter.
The agency included projects that are “shovel ready” and could be awarded at a special bid-letting in early April, he said. The project list released Friday is in addition to regular highway improvements projects.
Seems it didn't make it to the stimulus package yet. However, the site states that "Statistic update every 10 minutes"
This is the first post from Round Lake that took effort and presented facts. I know you're probably not "THE" RL we all know and love.
The only problem with all of this, not that we don't need the work, is that we're broke.
You cannot rob peter to pay paul and we are robbing beter, barry, lisa and every single person out there. We don't have any money and when the government borrows more that we can ever pay back to keep up the party will result in nothing but trouble in the end.
Sure, we'll all seem happy as they start dumping out taxes out the windows to keep the lemmings smiling. Sure, this might put some of the construction companies to work but who else? And what happens when the money is spent? Where is the manufacturing in this country? Where will all the people work when this is over?
We will still be left with the same problems, same unemployment, same broke population and we will still be left with the debt this forced folly brought about.
In debt in, in debt out.
