Could this tragedy have been prevented? What happened to the $500K-750k put aside for a bike/walk path 2 years ago?

My prayers go out to the children and their families.

This is such a trajic event...my heart goes out to the parents and families of these two young girls...This area is lite, they just put light post on the road in front of the school and there is a bike path. I live down the road from this spot and see people walking all the time. If the driver was drunk he should pay a high price for his stupidity! Please Pray for the families at this time of sorrow..

Yes it could have been prevented by keeping drunk drivers off the road. The lights are not at fault, the path is not at fault. THE DRUNK IS AT FAULT.
OUR COMMUNITY IS DEVASTATED BY THIS TRAGEDY.

My heart goes out to the families. I have lived on Kinnelon Rd my entire life and this accident has nothing to do with the way the road is or what could have been done to prevent it...it has everything to do with a horrible person who decided to drink and drive. He should be given the maximum penalty allowed.

We have zero tolerance for the silliest of things.
It's about time we have zero tolerance for drunk drivers.
Zero tolerance means no second change to kill someone.
Take away their license forever, take away their car forever, flag their credit cards so they can't rent a car. Unfortunately the man (and I use that term very lightly) will probably walk away and do this again. Those two young girls have no more opportunities.
God bless their souls.

Unfortunately - this won't teach the drunks anything. We hear of similar situations happening all the time. Yet they continue to happen. I agree - take away drunk drivers licenses for a good 10 years at least - hopefully they will realize by then how much of a RESPONSIBILITY it is to be allowed to drive. Driving is a PRIVELEGE not a birthright.

I've had a ache in the pit of my stomach since I heard this. I can't begin to imagine the heartache those young girls loved ones must be feeling. God bless their souls and God help their loved ones.

I've known one of the girls since she was only a few months old. Before she moved to Jefferson a few years ago, she lived across the street from us. She was a beautiful, kind and careing friend to all of my children. My heart goes out to the families of both girls!

This sorry excuse for a man committed two counts of vehicular manslaughter and should be in jail for a long time! I truly believe he will not begin to pay for his crime until he rots in hell for eternity for what he has done to these girls, the family, friends and community!

I just recently graduated from Kinnelon High School. I don't think I ever really knew the girl who was killed, but I do feel a sense of sorrow, and my deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. It is a shame that these things happen.
