This story is incomplete, possibly even a media scandal. 25 year old armed robbers aren't going to run from a unarmed 57 year old man. I find it hard to believe that this old man was able to wrestle the gun out of the hand of one of the invaders, but did not have his own gun to defend himself with. Being from the Plain area I can testify that about 99% of the locals are well-armed and would not allow someone to rob them while they were home without some shots being fired.

Don't be so sure of that!
You assume 2 things:
1. The 25 year old man was intelligent.
2. The 57 year old man was aware that a moron intended to break into his house.

There were two armed men who broke into his house.

The Leavenworth Echo, where I originally read this story, claimed the 57 old man was unarmed and wresteled one of the armed robbers to the ground and stole his gun then shot him twice. It failed to mention where the other armed robber was or what ever happened with him at this time.

The Wenatchee World actually says:

The homeowner told police he was awakened in the living room of his home, about 12 miles north of Leavenworth, by a rustling noise, Sisson said.

The man told police he walked into his bedroom to find the two armed men, one of whom was wearing a bandana as a mask, Sisson said. After being ordered to the floor, the man apparently "just instinctively started to fight these guys," Sisson said. The man reported firing three shots.

"Once the shooting started, the other suspect fled," Sisson said.

The homeowner attempted to hold the wounded man down while phoning for help, then walked around his property, wary of the second suspect, Sisson said.

So the media scandel was the doing of the Leavenworth Echo, not the Wenatchee World. Sorry for this mix up. The liberal echo simply could not accept the fact that guns are a tool used by the law abiding, not just criminals.

I'm 55 years old and trust me, not only could I wrestle the gun away from the kid, I might be inclined to turn him over my knee.

I applaud the actions of this man. And if you think 57 years old is frail and unable to defend against a couple of punks I invite you to bring it on!

If you enter my property without permission you are putting your life at risk.

Media scandal? Alex, I hope you aren't a lawyer or a detective because you wouldn't be very good at either. You make a lot of assumptions.
