Full story: KMOV.com

A new Wal-Mart Supercenter is coming to St. Charles County, and that isn't sitting well with some residents.

If they do put in a Walmart, make sure that the highways are designed to handle the traffic!!!!! We have one that was just put in and the traffic is terrible.....

BUT the competition of prices is good news for consumers -- Especially if the WALMARt they add is a super center -- perhaps they will CLOSE one of the other Wal-marts when they open the new one...

Welcome Wal-Mart!
I don't understand why so many people protest
Wal-Mart. They bring new jobs in the area and
make things affordable to All. Those that protest
Wal-Mart are usually the first in line when the
store is opened

Looking forward to having the OPTION to shop there. By bringing them in, it has forced Schnucks to lower the price on 10,000 items (hmmm, how long have they been gouging their customers if they can afford to lower that many prices?)

Personally I'm not a fan of their pathetic guest service but I can't say I need much help grabbing a $2 gallon of milk.

Competition will put downward pressure on prices...how could you argue against a lower grocery bill?

Frankly, if anyone really thinks the tax-loving government that is St. Peters is going to veto this store, you're kidding yourself.

If you think St Peters had a lot of empty strip malls now, wait until they open BOTH WALMART SUPER CENTER STORES in St Peters!!
Within 2 years St Peters will look like North County.

We could certainly use less small strip centers in St. Peters. I'd rather have all the commercial in fewer areas with big box stores than the excessive amount of small store fronts polluting our city. When will St. Peters finally say NO to the continual building of under-performing small commercial property. I would much rather have well planned commercial properties with Walmart, Target, Kohls, Costco etc than dozens of poorly planned strip centers.

I live right by where the new wal-mart will be built... and they need to really consider the traffic a supercenter walmart will bring to the area! rush hour on mexico road is hell enough, we don't need a walmart plugged right there to make it worse! How many walmarts does st. charles county need, anyway? Put it somewhere else!

Hey resident, how many Wal Mart Supercenters are there within a reasonable driving distance from St. Peters now? ZERO. Yes, we need one in this area of St. Charles County.

I'm tired of the price gouging that is going on from the usual grocers out here (though I cant really blame them due to their outrageous labor expenses).

St Peters will have 2 supercenter walmarts that is two many. St Peters residents be aware the City of St Peters is planning to take the work sessions off TV. Now you won't even know what is going on in your own city. They say you can come to the meetings at 5 pm. WHO ARE THEY FOOLING CITIZINS ARE COMMUTING. CALL YOUR CITY ALDERMAN AND OPPOSE THIS MEASURE.

I am tired of the whining over Walmart. The new Walmart SuperCenters are good thing for everybody but Schnucks and Dierbergs. Why wouldn't you want the extra selection, convenient locations and lower prices. My only problem is that construction has not yet started.

As for the Board of Alderman. I would miss it if the Work Sessions were no longer broadcast. This is the first I have heard that they will not be televised. "Honesty", Where did you hear this?

The tone of your message seems to indicate that your not as concerned about the the start time of the work sessions than a general dislike for St. Peters government in general. "Honesty", not everything is a conspiracy.

Yeah, they replace all those local owned businesses with part time minimum wage jobs and replace all the American made goods with Chinese products. They're really all American.

BOYCOTT WALMART!!!

BOYCOTT WALMART!!!
And how many Chinese-made food products are there in a SuperCenter that are also stocked by locally owned businesses Schnucks and Dierberghs?

The bottom line is it's time for Schnucks and DBergs to stop the price gouging and Wal Mart will force them.

Let's see all those local owned businesses within a a few blocks of the new Walmart Supercenter on Spencer road.

Costco, Ultimate Electronics, Marshals, Circuit City, Best Buy, Macy's, Dillards, Penney's, Sears, 200 stores at Mid Rivers Mall, Value City Furniture, Shop and Save, Office Depot, Sport's Authority, Toys-R-Us. Don't forget all the car dealers - Nissan, Toyota, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, Dodge, Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru, Pontiac, Cadillac, Mazda, Volkswagen, Lincoln Mercury.

This is in the middle of a highly commercial area that is perfectly suited for a Walmart SuperCenter.

Lets' start that construction and create some jobs!!!!!

Hard to argue with that Facts. I really can't think of ANY locally owned retail in that area. The only local joints are eateries that will BENEFIT from the Wal Mart.

Why cloud a good anti-Wal Mart rant with FACTS?

Ok I see both sides here. As a ethical way to approach this let me say the positive things first, then the negative.

POSITIVE
There actually is a difference is nutrition between brands of food,(Eat Aldis food too long you'll be Iron difficient) When buying in bulk it is only in selected brands, and sometimes varies each month. When going to Shop N Save, Schnucks, & Dierbergs they offer double coupons up to forty cents. The catch is 10 maybe 20 coupons max.(Lets all be honest Gas prices go up so best to make shopping trip worth it.) If my family can eat nice nutritious food without worrying how many of it qualifies with coupons so much the better. Saves time, effort, paper, money.

Lets also face St Louis has had many lay offs. And not much business coming. Unemployment does not last forever. So what happens when no jobs, loads of houses for sale? Real estate prices go down. Sometimes we have to do what we can to get by. I am 30, have a college education & work in the retail industry.

NEGATIVE
Yes it does hurt the hourly wages. Min wage does not help. To maintain a standard of living with housing prices, cost of goods services. Dont offer layaway anymore, they want you to get their credit card instead ! Best advice no matter the great offer to get a credit card say NO! We would not need such high wages if we did take accountability for how much we have on credit !!! The British are equally as bad as us on this.

There you have it ladies & gentlemen the truth as it is. We all have our parts to play. My car is old, but its paid for!!!
