Moriah Police are a joke. Ask if they even made a single DWI arrest. There were DWI statistics in the newspaper a few months ago, and Ticonderoga had the highest numbers of any town. Why are they giving money away to towns with fewer arrests than us? We should be getting something if Moriah Police get a car.

I know for a fact that Ti is receiving $20,000 from the DWI arrests but it is being used for video equipment in the car as well as overtime. If it was used for a car there must be a seperate motion made at the county. When a car is needed, maybe next year, there will be a motion for $20,000 for a car.

maybe because Ticonderoga has 12 officers for a town just a smidge bigger than Moriah? Maybe because Ticonderoga has how many bars in it's downtown? Maybe because Ticonderoga weiner head officers will sit outside the bars and wait like big, fat slobbering spiders? Maybe because Ticonderoga not only has your joke of a PD floating around, but also has the State Police presence from Schroon Lake up everyone's posterior?

I know this is a big stretch, but maybe some of you could think (yes, use the gray matter behind your eyes for something other than ballast) before clicking the "Post Comment" button.

maybe instead of a car, they should give ticonderoga some drug and alcohol counselors to deal with your obvious DWI problems.

So what you are saying is that if the Police in Ticonderoga do nothing at all, they deserve to get more free stuff. Wow, that is a great idea.

Get real, figure out how much money gets fed into that fund from each town. Then give it back out in an equal proportion. But wait, then Moriah will get little to nothing.

I actually agree with one of your comments. There is a huge drug and alcohol problem everywhere. Split the money 50/50 between prevention and enforcement. Just put the money where it is needed, and your post makes it pretty clear it is needed in Ticonderoga.

Hello, maybe everyone should read the Essex County Board minutes. I think there you will see the Board memebers talk about who will get the money for the new cars, from what I read it was like they had a dissagreement on who gets what amount of money and when was the last year either Town got any money from the fund. to me in one of the meetings is seamed like they were just worried about who's turn it was to get some of the money this year. When this meeting happen I didn't see any of them saying, I am using some of the money to help educate any of the public. To me it sounds like the money is just used in a revolving cycle to purchase new cars only.

Why the hell would ti need another new car? If you ask me we have way too many officers and cars. And why would we get these new cars from chrysler? We dont have a jeep/dodge dealer in town. Wouldnt it be nice to spend the money in our own town (christophers,Wicker)? Why is ti broke???? Why do we need all these cops???? And if we are gonna keep all these cops why are the troopers needed?????

I guess when you are the chairman/woman of the board (as is the Scroon Supervisor) this is how they pay you. How many years has she been chair? And in case it wasn't mentioned on this thread, this event was listed as being paid for by the Scroon Lake chamber of commerce. No mention of DWI monies.

if thats the case then what did they do with the DWI money they got for the event. has any of the Board or public asked what happen to the monet they got. I think someone from the Board of supervisors should ask that question, what did they do with the money?
Do you know what they did with it>?

This whole thing revolves around the current DA's desire to give a defeated Supreme Court Justice's wife a job so that the family will have health insurance. Forget all the highly charged rhetoric and baseless charges, this is what it's all about. The current County Clerk is the most saintly person any of us could hope to meet while being on this earth. He does five extra jobs and receives no extra pay for all but one, and receives $500 annually for doing that. He does a great job and keeps the expenses down. If your mindset is to add head count and the resulting costs then by all means support the current DA's position. However, if you earn your money like I earn mine, support the County Clerk and the Board of Supervisor's, they all can see the forest for the tree's.

I wonder what made the good old boys panic about an independent DA asking questions like "just what is Joe spending all that money on, anyways?"

The county clerk--saintly or no--has his fingers in TOO MANY things. Whether or not he gets paid for them is definitely not the issue.

The issue is called a POSSIBLE conflict of interest. This is a great setup for something stupid to happen and tax dollars to be wasted.

Sorry I may have not been clear on the question I was asking or maybe you misunderstood the question in the other post.

To make in simple. I was asking if Schroon Lake used the money to pay for fire works will they have to pay it back. I feel they should. From the Board meetings I have read it was the DA who made the decision to call the NYS Director of STOP DWI Program.
You will have to ask her what her agenda is.

If there as been an unjust then it is her job to look into the matter. She was the one who called the Director of the NYS Program and the Attorney Generals office also.

You say in the same sentence forget about rhetoric and baseless charges thatís what itís all about.
I havenít seen a better contrariety of words in one sentence.
The NYS STOP DWI DIRECTOR saw it as a misuse of funds this is not a baseless charge as you say in the sentence above.
Do I feel it was a waste of funds you bet your bottom I do.
They are all trying to work out the issue at hand. I only hope as you do it donít cost Tax Money to fix what went wrong.

For many years the State has a website with all the details as to how to handle the money. I thought this is what the County Attorney gets paid to do. You mentioned you work for your money. I do also. This is why I have concerns as to how much the law makers make, yet made a simple mistake like this. Come on.
I donít think there is one person to blame, they all made a bad mistake and they need to fix it. Maybe they owe an apology to the public. The bottom line is they all cost the County money. They made the mistake, no one else.

Do I think the County Clerk does a great job; I am not so sure, but on the other hand I also feel that the County doesnít have anyone else to handle the responsibilities that he can? Maybe they gave him the responsibility because none of them can handle it. You would have to ask your local Supervisors what is going on and how he feels.
To be honest I am dumfounded.

You asked if I feel there should be a head count and add resulting cost. The answer is no.
For two reasons.
1- The DA questioned the money issue and if you read the Board minutes you will see they have a lot of work ahead of them to fix the issue.
2- It is not up to the public or the Board of Supervisors to add cost to the way the money is spent. The NYS STOP DWI program has rules each of the 68 Counties that receive the money have to comply with.
One of the rules is to have a committee or someone that can make good decisions set in place to make sure that something does not happen with what has just happened with this County in regards to the money being spent for fireworks.

After giving it some thought, I was just looking at one of the last meetings after the Board decided they need to have a Committee set in place to handle the money. Get this after the meeting they decided to give Ti. and Moriah the money anyway. Go figure, whets up with that. They just say we have to have a Board to ok the money, yet they give it out anyway, what is wrong with this picture. Do you feel that just by placing a STOP DWI Sticker on a car makes it ok to use this money that way. This is their thinking, that if the car has a STOP DWI STICKER itís ok to spend the money on it. Look at it this way. How many kids will see that STOP DWI STICKER while they are in School. Do you feel a Stop DWI Sticker will prevent someone from driving drunk? I donít, the presents of a patrol car will anyway. If the Board of Supervisors say they will have to keep track of the hours the car is used for DWIís, will it sit in their parking lot for the times itís not used. Answer-- No they will use it all the time.
I have a thought if they want some of the money for a car to use for DWI half the time, let them pay for the other half of the value price from their own Town budget.
This is 30k we are talking about here. Moriah is getting 20 k for a new, yet they havenít decided whether they will have to keep track of the hours the car is used for DWI work. This is how I took the Finance meeting. The bottom line is they donít have a Committee together to make any decisions yet. In this past meeting as well as another that was brought up about the DWI money was, maybe they should have an outside member other then the supervisors talk about other avenues with regards to how to us the money, again they talk about but in the last Finance meeting they give Mariah and Ti, money. Am I brain dead or is someone else. I feel that Moriah wants to get their share of the money now before they make any new rules as to what to do with it the correct way. This is wrong. What is mostly wrong about it is that the Town of Moriah Supervisor is the Chair of the Finance Committee and is getting 20k for a new car. Do you think there is an ethical issue here?
I have an idea maybe with the laws set in place by NYS that each and every County Board of any working Government office should have an Ethics PERSON appointed to handle things of this nature, maybe they should ask their ETHICS OFFICER if there is ethical issues that should be addressed before they give Ti and Moriah any money. If you read some of the Board meetings about the issue at hand. You will see the DA bring up this question also. Before you reply by saying is this my mindset of spending more money, the answer is no. If you take the time and look up the Rules of NYS in regards to Ethics, you will see that they are set in place so something like this dose not happen; the Board has rules they have to follow for a reason. I think they should get a better handle on things before they get any deeper then they are already.
Maybe you should ask them who is the Essex County Board Ethics Person.
Do you think they have one? I am not sure. I have not seen or heard of him.
