What a terrible ordeal! I just hope the respective dogs get the love and care they were used to in their original homes.

While in the kennel, the two dogs agreed to mess with the owners minds as payback for putting them there.....

Wonder if the kennel lost or killed the dog and pulled a switcheroo. That would not be very smart, since dogs are legally considered chattel, and thus someone who negligently causes the loss of an an animal is only responsible for the cost of replacing it. This is why pet product makers are in no hurry to make their stuff safer. One major company knew its flea shampoo could seriously sicken a small percentage of cats yet found it cost effective to keep distributing it. However, if this kennel committed fraud, somebody could wind up in a cage.

I can't imagine an imposter dog fooling me. I would know my Lab from all others.

Would just say "Wanna treat?" and he will start barking and running in circles. I'm sure no other dog on the planet does that.

Jim Phelps is the head of a super-secret government agency ("Impossible Missions"), and is often given secret anonymous covert missions to attempt; quite often they are unmasking of criminals or the rescuing of hostages. He picks his team depending on which tasks need to be done. One thing is vital on an Impossible Mission: the mission must be carried out in entire secrecy, often relying on high-tech equipment and elaborate deceptions.

Supposedly his dog still had it's dew claws and had knee surgery. Why not make all 7 labs come back and x-ray them (at the missing dogs owners expense) and find the right dog.

That's why I'll never use a kennel (although I am sure I'd know my dog!!)

And if it IS the kennels fault they in turn should cover all costs .I agree though ,simple solutions are sometimes to easy for some .If I were the kennels owner -thats what I'd of done just to protect my name .

"Callie had once surgery to her left elbow; this dog showed no trauma. Callie also had steel sutures after being spayed; this dog had none that showed up on the X-ray."

The "Lab work" showed it was a different dog,

AND...

"The family cat -- normally friends with Callie -- hissed at the dog."

The Cat scan was negative.

Another good case for getting a pet microchipped. At least that way it should be clearcut, not relying on pet preferences on who fed it last.

You would be surprised how often this happens in boarding kennels and grooming shops... owners just do not recognize a different dog until behavior patterns prompt them to pay attention. I once had a lady swear it was the right dog despite a 10 lb. weight difference. She had to buy a new collar to take it home and still insisted she was right.

It requires tact and assembling all the dogs in question together. Well- paying attention in the first place, but to remedy the situation, anyway.

What, you let her take someone elses dog home? What happened when the real owner came to get him?
