The municipal police need to have trick or treat on the same week night every year so that they can plan their patrols? You mean they can't look at a calendar once a year to find out what day Halloween falls on and plan accordingly? Really?

Trick-or-Treating on any other night than Halloween is just ridiculous and silly.

Get over it already, the kids don't care as long as they get their night out. Adults like you make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Why trick or trick if you aren't going to do it on Halloween, Oct 31?? Isn't that the reason for trick or treating?? Some places have it 6 days prior to Oct 31....LOL

Christmas will be on January 10, and the Forth of July will be on August 27th. Just so the cops can plan ahead.

Residents who want to participate in trick-or-treat are reminded they should turn on their porch lights during the hours indicated.
Do you know how many people DON'T know when trick or treat is and leave their lights on. I would say 1/4 of the houses leave their lights on and their not even home.

Doing so means the night is the same day of the week each year, allowing police and municipal officials to plan patrols.
Ok so police can plan patrols?? How bout just do it on the 31 and guess what?? EVERY police dept will have extra partols out on the same night so everyone can back everyone else up. Also it's great that police can plan patrols BUT....what about the people who drive through different townships/boros ect? Someone who lives in New Oxford or York Springs may not know when Hanover or Spring Groves is---How much danger does that put the children in?? no increase of police patrol can assist in that one!

Here's an idea Make Halloween the last Saturday in October!! Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, and many others has a set day of the month reguardless of the date. This would take the guess work out of things and allow school age students and parents need not to worry about getting up and getting to school th enext day. MOST high school games are on Friday nights. The marching bands can still do the parades the Tuesday and Thursday as before so they can be at the games on Friday nights and maybe even a contest on Saturday while still making it to the trick or treating. Good Luck! I know in some college towns that have football gaems on Saturday already want to prohibit trick or treating on Saturday to keep the traffic issues reduced.

My God - if you leave your lights on you'll be contributing to so-called 'global warming'! Send your electric bills to Al Gore!

Here's an idea. You dress up your kids on any day you wish to take them trick or treating. Stand them on the front porch and thow the free candy at them. Then get a life and worry about more important things.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Trick or Treating on any other night than the 31st is silly. T or T all on Halloween night is just too much for this little town. CHANGE-overload.

It all started out as All Hallows Eve, a night to dress up and scare away the demons in preparation for November 1st, All Saints Day,

The commercialism took over and it became Halloween, a night for trick or treating. Just like Christmas, the commercialism is trying to ruin it.

I will vote for the T&T to take place as it should on the 31st, as someone else stated, that way if you decide to travel on 31st you would know, no matter which way you are headed to watch out for monsters

Yes, it's "too much." It's all because we're driving around in freaking Edsel's, listening to the wireless and hoping Jack Stinking Benny comes to town for a matinee.

It has NOTHING to do with tradition and having a week's worth of events to celebrate Halloween.

Get over yourself. There are still costumes and candy. The kids love it and don't care what night it is. They're just happy to have fun while some of their parents act like spoiled little babies because they didn't get a personal survey asking their preference for community traditions.

I'm not the "move back to Maryland" type since I grep up there and work there, so just shut the hell up already and celebrate the holiday.
