Toojay's Lake Mary segregated seating

I am a long time Heathrow resident and a neighbor invited us to Toojay's for dinner. She happens to be white and my daughter and I are colored. The hostess seats us right next to the kitchen and when my friend asked to be moved where she usually gets seated with her white family and friends, the hostess flat out refused. When I went to the restroom I closely checked and saw that all the whites were seated together at the good tables and all the Asians and African Americans were seated by the kitchen. The hostess kept passing us with a smug "I am putting you in your place" look.

Anybody else who is colored still experience racial segregation in restaurants? I hate it when you spend hundreds of dollars at restaurants, bother to dress up nice (not at toojay's of course- I mean in other restaurants) and still get stuck by the kitchen or bathrooms just because you are colored. It doesn't matter really how educated or how well you have done in life, racism is still alive and strong in the hearts of many people.

Questionable credibility

First of all, I rarely hear a black person refer to themselves as "colored" (at least not since the 60's). I do reckon' a black person dislikes the term "colored" so why then, if you are, do you use it?? Second of all, I've to Too Jays alot and have sat by the kitchen and never once took offense to it. It is always a racial thing. The only ones that make it "racial" are the real racists. There is PLENTY of reverse discrimination going around but white people just let it roll. Why?? I really don't know.

They didn't even refer to themselves as colored in the 60's. The "racism" that exists here is called 'racism of convenience'. Whenever someone wants to stir the sh it they scream racism. I didn't like sitting in alot of areas in different restaurants but never once thought that it was directed at me personally. These bigots need to get off of their podiums - like the "great" civil-rights activist Al Sharpton who only seem to march and riot when the civil rights of a black person has been (what they believe) violated. How come he never defends anyone else who has been 'violated'? i'm sure it is not only the black man that he needs to defend - that would take away from his 'street cred' i guess if he defended others. On the other hand, i think alot of other races would respect him more if he did. Word up.

....feel that they've been discriminated against at Too Jays? It seems that this is a subject that people don't want to touch. I have never heard of or seen such a thing happening at any local restaurant.

I work there as a server and I was THERE that night and you're a fucking joke. You and your family acted like assholes to the hostess and got sat where you were because it was BUSY. You asked for a manager and immediately acted as if we thought you were special because of your -race-. You got sat in the alley because the server that was in the alley was UP TO BE SEATED! You called the race card IMMEDIATELY and got LAUGHED AT after you left because you acted like a little princess who should be treated EXTRA SPECIAL -BEFORE- other customers that had been waiting longer. You were an irate bitch who deserved to have their food spit in.
Thank you

Just as I suspected after reading her comment and the 2 after that with their thoughts. Black College Reunion week, NAACP, Black Enetertainment TV (BET), affirmative action, National Society of Black Engineers, Black Vote National Committee, African American Psychology Network, National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), African American Planning Commission (AAPC), National Black MBA Association, United Negro College Fund, Black history month - if ANY of these said WHITE, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and all of the others would be marching in front of these organizations. Discrimination? Yes - but not towards black people! Blacks feel that they deserve an apology for slavery FOREVER - and they will keep on playing that card as long as we let them.

If you think Toojay's has a discrimination issue, I guess you never have seen the back of the house. Most TooJays have a wide variety of colors in thier stores. White employees make up the minority.

so, you are a toojay's server who spits in the food when you don't like a customer? i wonder what the headquarters will say about this. i am not concerned about the race issue here but the spitting of the food is disgusting.

wow, shouldn't this be reported to the Florida Divisions of Hotels and Restaurants for a food safety violation? The headquarters should deal with this. yes, that is disgusting. i thought that was just a rumor about servers spitting on food - i would not want to eat at toojay's anymore.6781

There are a lot of forms of racism.

No one deserves to be called names like an irate bitch.

In general, where there is smoke, there is fire.

I live near there and will avoid this TooJays in the future.

The night we went there was not busy at all. There were many tables vacant that is why our neighbor, who was a frequent customer asked for another table. I was not irate. I asked nicely to talk to someone and there was a nice young man who was very apologetic and even the manager was polite about it. I am an old woman and I do not act like a little princess and I do not appreciate being called an irate bitch. There are a lot of senior citizens in Heathrow and we do not appreciate being treated in such a manner, white or black. I surely will let friends know that servers at Toojay's spit on the food of customers they do not like.

The server never said that anyone actually spit in their food, he said that they "deserved to have their food spit in" by the way that they were acting. There is a big difference between wanting to do something and actually doing it.

if you watch TV in the NYC area you will know about Black history month, 1000 blacks in law enforcment, black entertainment channel, Congress of National Black Churches, The Organization of Black Airline Pilots Inc., 100 Black Men of America Inc, Acapulco Black Film Festival, American Association of Blacks in Energy, Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challne, Black Women's Network, International Org. of Black Security Execs. You will find more names at this link http://www.littleafrica.com/resources/organiz...

Imagine white New York cops form an organization and name it 1000 Whites in law enforcment. Big mouth Sharpton and few others will talk about the very next day.

p.s
I like Lake Mary and looking to move there within a year.

while i dont personaly know if toojays is prejudice or not some of these comments that i read do raise concearn .as a black man i have experianced racism and i have also witnessed "reverse racism".whether racism is coming from black, white or other its all wrong.for those who responded that arent black you do not understand what it is like to be a victim of racism .although there are some people who played a race card ignorantly so ,there is indeed racism that still exist.ther are alot of programs and groups that have "black" in there names as the other races that do the same thing.the reason for this is baecause for so many years as recent as the 70's blacks and other minority races were treated as second class citizens and had to form groups and create buisness's that were in support of us.it is unfortunate that this topic still raises so much "fire" today.and by the way sharpton is not the spokesperson for all black people as there is no man or woman who is the spokesperson for all whites.

Too funny...It's fools like this that cause the lawyers to go hog wild. When they do, it's the average person who pays. I have never seen a segregated TooJays or any restaurant. If there is one, PLEASE let me know. I'll go. I am sick of blacks looking to make money off of the working man's back. Go to school, get a job, learns some morals, have a few scruples and stop breeding like cats.
