Seminole man who hacked wife, son to death with sword found not...

The Seminole County man who hacked his 11-year-old son and wife to death with a sword was declared not guilty by reason of insanity on Wednesday and ordered to be sent to a secure mental hospital.

Can you imagine the horror his victims went through before they died, especially his son? Can you imagine that poor child desparately trying to get away from his father? The only sentence for what Duzant did is death. Please don't tell me how bad it will be for him in jail, I don't want to hear it. I have sympathy for people with legitimate mental illness, but anymore it seems that "the voices made me do it" is becoming the alibi of choice for people who kill off their families. And why? Because they see other murderers get away with it. But I just know what WILL happen; Duzant will be given a token sentence in a mental health facility, put back on the streets on the condition that he takes his medications, at some point he'll stop taking them, and he'll wind up killing someone else. I mean, after all, we don't want to violate HIS righs, now do we? Disgusting.

With prison so expensive it's time to take everyone sentenced to prison and put them on the front lines in war zones. The murderers could indulge in their fantasies and all we need to supply is ammo. even if the cons get wiped, we win.

I think instead of being found not guilty because of insanity, it should be guilty but insane. That way, after he spends his time in the mental facility, he can spend the rest of his life in jail. I think that would cut down on people trying to get off because they were temporarily "insane"

He seems to have all of the "insanity" rules in line right? It just seemed to me that he had quite a few things going for his insanity, I mean talking frogs? CIA, conspiracy theory AND people coming to attack his family? Wow! I feel horrible about their deaths, the pain and fear is too unbearable to think about.

I am not the type of person to actually make a comment on these things but here it goes. I knew these people, I worked with Gigi about 3 years before this happened. We became friends and I was new to the area and trying to meet people, difficulty for a young single mom. On the rare occasion I actually got to go out Gigi and Frank would watch my 2 year old daughter, usually overnight. THEY, all of them, were great with her and she loved to go there. When I heard this I was mortified, never in a million years would I think this would happen. I hadn't talked to them in several years when this tragic event took place and either something snapped inside him or I didn't really know them at all. But I feel without a doubt the only punish for this crime is death and anything else is a disgrace to the justice system, this country, and worse of all a disgrace to Nico and Gigi.

Forget his shyster lawyer.Circuit Judge Donna McIntosh ruled that Franklyn "Frankie" Duzant, 42, must be confined for public safety but is too mentally ill to be held legally responsible for the killings in 2006.

I have all the sympathy in the world for people with real mental illnesses, but it seems this business of "the voices made me do it" is the #1 alibi for murder, anymore! As for being found not guilty by reason of insanity; well, there's another story on this website today about a man who had gone after his father with a hammer years back and was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Just the other day, neighbors saw him beating a woman in the head with a hammer! I agree with other posters, these monsters should be put down like the mad dogs they are.

I knew Frankie when he lived in New London before he went to the Gulf. I will pray for Frankie's recovery from this experience, and will also pray for the Duzant family. Frankie is not an evil man, and I will continue to pray for him.
