What has ahppened to the Esmeralda Inn? We got married there 10 years ago and were hoping to return with our family for our anniversary. It was such a wonderful place. Does anyone know where the owners are? They made our event so special. Thanks for any information.

Unfortunately the Esmeralda got forclosed upon a couple of years ago. The owners..Ackie and JoAnne Okpych still live in the Chimney Rock, Bat Cave Area.....You can go into just about any shop in Chimney Rock and someone can tell you how to get in touch with Ackie and JoAnne.

It's should be re-opening this summer or certainly by fall, 2007. We're getting ready to give the new owners a quote on replacing the heating/ac units in the rooms, and there's a lot of activity out there right now. Won't be long!

Owners are a Florida Group. They have been advertising for managers in the local paper ACT. Looks to be a group of investers, not local ownership. Just managed and run by hired help.

Wow so much has happened since I was last there in 1987 8 1/2 months pregnant. My family has been going to the Inn for generations. I remember finding my grandparents picture in the photo album the had in the little room off the main living area on the first floor. I was hoping I could take my husband and children there this summer but it looks like it wont happen. I can remember my older sisiter complaining the first time we went there because she had to use the bathroom down the hall. LOL. She could never tinkle in public places. I wish I had the money to buy the place myself but I'm not financially able. I just hope whom ever buys it will keep it like it always has been and not make it to I don't know "standard". It truely is a special place. Does anyone ever know if up above the Inn if there was a water fall that flowed down the stage right side of the in. My mom talks about walking up to it as a kid but we could never find it when I was younger.
thanks

Hi Rachel,

It so happens that I work for the new owners of The Esmeralda Inn. They have remodelded the Inn yet have kept it's initial beauty. At this moment I do not have the number for the Inn but you can call 1-800-544-1491 and inquire about the historic The Esmeralda. Hope this information helps you and Happy Anniversary. Stella

HI! I visit the Historic Esmeralda Inn two weeks ago and the remodeling of the hotel and the restaurant is looking great. They are trying to mantein the original interior and the facade of the building and as well as its warm feeling. At the same time, it also offers all the services, confort and conveniences of a Five Star Modern Hotel.

I don't know when it will be open to the public, but I think that will be soon.

Our Grand Re-Opening will be Spring of 2008.

We appreciate everyone's support and interest.
Contrary to popular rumour, we WILL be open to the public and we WILL be offering luxury accommodations with fine dining.

Though no longer "family owned and operated", those working here are much more than "hired help." This is a 24/7 industry no matter who owns the property. We are committed to providing an unforgettable experience of luxury and service to all of our guests.

There are many new memories waiting to be created and we hope all of you will come to stay with us!
Please visit our website www.theesmeralda.com for updates and contact info.

It's very possible we will be able to offer lodging with limited amenities throughout the autumn & winter. The restaurant will not be fully operating until Spring but breakfast is included with your stay.

Thanks again for all the interest.(Hi, Stella!)
Look forward to meeting you!

Yes, we still have the little waterfall. And speaking of that, every room now has a private bath.

many years ago i worked at the original esmerelda. many people from hendersonville and asheville came to see us . along with many movie stars. i was there when bill pentaude was chef in the kitchen. we use to have dining on the upper porch as well as the lower. and yes the waterfall was a soothing sound. i do hope it gets back up and running soon....
