I know this is an old post ,I came acrossed while doing some research on Long Islands N.Ys slave history. Nothing ive read online has shown what you wrote as factual.Infact the majority of northerners hated slavery many were abolitionists .As far as slave trade in Rhode island, that was between the yrs of 1707 and 1807 .heres a few easy reading links to back up what i say,where are yours?Slavery was still going on unlike what you say down south.Northerners did not start it . lol Youre in Fla huh? lol Slavery has been around lonnnggg before the 13 colonies were even made. If it wasnt for the lots of northerners many slaves wouldnt have found freedom,As far as northerners being the ones that wanted Indians(my relatives also) "exterminated" thats just hate talk. omg trail of tears ...hmmm So EVERYONE SHOULD DO RESEARCH !!!!

im from east tennessee, and i personally think the confederate flag is an awsome looking flag. but.. i dont like what it stands for, therefore, i dont fly one, nor do i permit my children from flying one, or displating one anywhere. but i wouldnt be a part of trying to get it removed from the general lee, (Dukes of hazzard). it is a part of our history, but myself, it that flag offends anyone, in anyway, then i dont want any part of it. just out of respect for my fellow americans.. god bless...taylor

A lot of so-called southerners say that the flag is about their heritage. What a bunch of BS!!! Most of these so-called southerners have northern bloodlines. The civil war decimated the numbers of so many confederate soliders, that northerners took southern wives. I'm sure many of these "southerners" have relatives from northern states in the past 130 years. The flag has no impact on me personally, many try to use it as intimidation. That time has past just like the white race likes to tell the black race to get over slavery. This is the USA not CSA, you idiots!!!

As for the argument, "well, I'm yelling because they started it first," there is no reason to sink to "their" level in the first place...unless we truly believe we, too, belong there. I have $10 that says that all the people who say they are flying the confederate flag because of your great respect for Southern history or heritage... 1) are flying a flag that the confederacy never used, and 2) are unaware of that fact.
