It's easy to sympathize with the teacher for being realistic and practical, but he's unlikely to get his job back given church policy. At least the church is consistent. Their foolish no-condoms policy may cause more deaths, but at least they also apply it to child molesting priests.

You need to be a little better informed...sex is not the only way AIDS can be contracted. It can be contracted through a blood transfusion or shared needles, though not as common today since they screen the blood much better.

If you are claiming that AIDs is only a gay disease....maybe you are one of the ones who needs to watch the video.

The teacher is doing his best to teach and protect lives.
So it wasn't in the Diocese's curriculum. So what?
What also was not in a Seminarian's curriculum was the lesson not to molest young boys - and priests did anyway becuase they were not instructed not to do that.
Most times, older, experienced teachers know much better than overpaid blowjo* administrators what a child needs to be taught to grow up to be an upstanding individual for life.

this is another matter the chuch is burying in the sand.aids is a preventable problem that can only be prevented with education.this teacher should be rewarded for his efforts and be allowed to stay in his position. perhaps the school and the church teachings will enter the twentieth century in the twenty second century.ley us pray that happens.

Fired for AIDS prevention ? The Catholic hypocrisy continues.

I suppose the ex-Nazi at the Vatican who wears the funny red hat and pointy shoes came up with that one. Maybe the Crossbacks should spend more time routing out the pedophile priests and let the teachers teach.

As a Catholic myself, I can tell you that the catholic religion needs to get their heads out of their butts and start thinking with a little common sense.
The man's a teacher whos been showing this movie for ten years. So what, it was all good until one snotty mother complained??? Maybe the school administrators need to go to the store and buy a bigger pair so they can tell this "parent" where to go.

I am guessing that the school was aware of the fact that he was showing this video since this has been going on for several years.
These kids are lucky that they are getting some sort of sex education because at my kid's school they beleive that it is the parents resposibility and don't teach anything at all. Although we talked to our kids I think that most parents don't and if the school's aren't educating them then they are learning it on the streets which leads to more problems.

Folks, Thinking about this for just a moment should lead you to the conclusion that there's clearly something else going on, here. He showed this video for 10 years before getting fired. So why did it get him fired, now? Unfortunately schools are not immune to 'office politics.' I'm guessing the school's principal was looking for an excuse to fire this teacher, and a noisy parent gave him one.

It's tempting to get caught up in the emotion around sex education, AIDS, and anti-Catholic bigotry. Don't. That's obviously not what this is about.

Agreed.

Of course it could be as simple and them not liking him showing the video and waiting to pounce on it when ONE PERSON gives them the opportunity they needed.

It's amazing the power one person has, isn't it??

actually, there is nothing more to the story...it wasn't the principal that fired him, it was the pastor. my children go to st. francis and even the youngest children that have never had him as a teacher are sad...it doesn't matter what the movie was about...he played the movie for 10 years...so sad....

Typical school administration over-reaction. A parent complains fire the teacher. He said he would stop showing the video; problem solved.

Extremely disgusted by the injustice that he was fired!!I wish more people would try to save people from aids like he does.I do think though that because the video was shown for 10 year that there must have been office politics.I hope the principal reads this:I hope that whatever politics were going on , that you are sure of the teachers guilt. There are some backstabbing fellow colleagues with agendas out there or did you have personal hate against him? I would not let this go . I would take you ALL the way to highcourt. Somebody that cares to save lives is usually unselish and wants to help . SO whatever politics were going on I think the other party was the guilty one.
