In Connecticut it's a felony. Police get special treatment and laws here, remember? Not sure about other countries.
Bur remember, New York Ste Police Internal Affairs had to investigate our state police because our own government is too arrogant and condones the corruption and illegal and unconstitutional behavior. So, the NY cops know what they're dealing with when they deal with CT law enforcement.
Amazing--CT has a "zero tolerance policy" against everyone and everything, except when it comes to CT government.
When are we going to get a story on the report, Courant
Just curious but it said the NY cop was off duty. How would one know when approached by a person in plain clothes at 1 am in a park that they are a cop. If I approached you at 1 am in a park and I was not in uniform how would you know I was a cop.
Now I am sure that if it said Mr. Alterio was a carpenter or unemployed and got in a fight at 1 am in a park with an off-duty officer you would probably be saying that the off duty cop was covering his trackis because he is a crooked cop.
Every time you post something it is either anti cop or some other conspiracy theory. Be subjective for once.

I'm not "anti-cop." I am anti rank-and-file CT cops. You truly expect me to have respect for an agency that can't even police themselves let alone obey the very laws they swore to uphold? It's pathetic. If your minister was sleeping around, stealing, swearing in every sentence he spoke and getting drunk every day, would you call that person a minister?

So a state cop can speed, blow off red lights, drive recklessly, drive cars without plates, then pull over people to cite them for the same, I'm supposed to acknowledge them as law enforcement professionals? They're arrogant and boorish, can't pull over a car full of girls without two cruisers backing them up and crowding around them as a group so to intimidate?

Like I said, this is the vast majority of them, and it's the rank and file hotshots. You don't see detectives do that--they don't have to. They're good--really good. With very few exceptions, they get their man.

As far as you baseless little accusation that I'm also a conspiracy theorist--name one. What are you missing when you read my posts? You think, given my opinions of what passes for government in this state, I would be inclined to think they could pull off a conspiracy? These idiots can't even balance a checkbook, for christ's sake. Conspiracies. Please.

No conspiracies. Just a state full of dumb suckers trudging to the polls every November. That's all.

Did they release any pictures of the girls who beat up this Bridgeport officer?

To all you cop bashers. When someone attacks you or one of your loved ones, don't call a cop. And when you get a ticket or a summons, remember they are only doing what YOU pay them to do.

Hey Cops need to have fun to! Big deal!! If it was a regular Joe that this happened to it wouldn't have even made the news. So lets not make a big deal out of something that just about every man has done before (got drunk and done something stupid).

What an incredibly stupid statement! How would anyone know when when approached by a person in plain clothes at any time that he is a cop?
Because he would be showing a badge and announcing that he is a cop, you moron! Otherwise it's a crime called impersonation.
Hey azzwipe how do you know he even identified himself as a cop and I am not talking about Alterio? I don't know too many cops that when they are off duty go around looking to talke police action as this NY cop did. Don't believe everything you read jackass.

"Shoreline Watcher" You have NO clue! off duty officer eating his dinner in the park, minding his own business, he did not FIND this drunk cop, this drunk cop found him and started talking to him and showing the off duty lg officer an attitude, the lg officer tried to walk away and this top notch cop decided he wasn't done tlaking and he would start throwing fists to show he wasn't done. This cop is an IDIOT and i am very anxious to see the outcome of this, if anybody in bridgeport has half a brain this guy will be in the unemployment line, he needs to be nowhere around a sidearm.

Am I the only one who noticed that the article states that he puched the "OFF-duty" officer who "found" him in the park. I dunno, but if you've been in a fight and are probably intox. what would you do to the guy who comes up behind you and grabs you or pokes you? Maybe the $100 bond was because that was the same guy he was fighting with earlier? As with many, this article tells us very little and gives us a lot to fill in on our own.

Has anyone, other than a select few, actually read the article or simply read cop and went off the handle. He was beaten and mugged. When he came in contact with an off-duty plain clothed officer. There are NO details written here what so ever. So all of you can continue with your speculations and accusations. Attack the person who was beaten because obviously he is the person to blame. It is impossible that the off-duty officer did anything wrong. The stories in the papers, as always have half the facts. For instance officer Alterio approached the other officer and he ignored and could've cared less that he was beaten and hurt. So much for compassion. But please read into news articles that receive mere sentences from a police report but somehow find a way to turn it into paragraphs of a news story. I'm sure they are capable of coming up with the truth on their own. You people disgust me. Get a life

You must admit that one cop beating on another cop is news. It's usually a cop beating on a civilian.

Since there are so few details published, how is it that you are so knowledgeable about what happened?
