Funny how most of the ppl that talk bad about the area DO NOT LIVE THERE - they just want to feel that their community is superior to any other community. Ugh

I just purchased a home in Lake Elsinore, got a great deal...$165K for a 1,700 SF 3BR, 3BA home built in 2007. So far I am thrilled. Everyone thinks LE is in the sticks, but I like it because it has a small town feel with big city amenities (thanks to I-15). There's a costco, walmart, several big chain grocery stores, home depot, bed bath and beyond, and TONS of restaurants - especially near Central Ave. Sounds like the area's history is a little rough, which is why the older residents talk a lot of crap. But I can tell this area has come a long way and is improving every day. My advice to you is don't necessarily listen to the naysayers, go and visit the area yourself and see how you like it. It's not Beverly Hills, but if you're looking for a good, convenient, affordable and pretty place to live I think you'll enjoy it. The prices are out of this world a bargain.
NewHomebuyer sums it up nicely.

I have been in Lake Elsinore for almost six years now and love it. I have taken advantage of the real estate tumble and just got into a 4BR 3BA custom home, only 4 years old, with a lake view for $200,000. I was a renter before and couldn't afford to buy, but finally it became attainable.

If you don't have to commute I would recommend living in Lake Elsinore. There are some uneducated/ignorant people (usually from out of town) who assume the Lake smells (it does not), has a drug problem (no more than any other SoCal town), or there's nothing to do (hello!? Beach 45 mins. away, outlet shopping, glen ivy spa, skydiving, boating, hiking, dining, movie theatres, dog park, baseball stadium, horseback riding, the list goes on...)

I have never heard anything bad about politics (as "Get Real" insinuated). I don't have any kids yet so I don't know what the schools are like but I've never heard anything bad, there's a brand new school called Lakeside High.

I live near High Street which is a wonderful and quiet neighborhood. If you like tract home neighborhoods then I would suggest living north and east of the lake. The south end is much nicer and country feeling, and most of those homes don't have HOA fees.

Good luck in your venture, hope this helps

I'm moving to Lake Elsinore in August. I was wondering if anyone knew about the area around Rose St and Lime st.
Good area? Bad area?
a lady that wanted me to rent from her told me it had apartments down the road known for drug dealing =/
any truth to this?
I have a friend who lives on Rose Street. It is not a good area, but at the same time, she hasn't had any problems. Around that areas, some of the roads are washed out or now paved. It it were me personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable living on that side of town. Wildomar is a better location, and same house prices etc.

I've lived in LE for 6 years now and, aside from some kids throwing a party next door, I've never had an issue with crime. I drop into the local watering holes from time to time and for the most part folks treat eachother with respect. There's a hint of right wing rederick and a touch of prejudice with the less educated but that can be expected in most smaller towns. That's what I would equate LE to. A typical moderately small town that's received quite a bit of growth in the last 5 years.

Ummm....are you moving from IL to Lake Elsinore? If yes, I wouldn't move to Elsinore if you paid me! There are some new homes there that are nice. If you don't have kids and can take care of yourself (in case your jumped or held up at gun point...) then you might be ok. It's definately cheap there. There is a reason for that. Murrieta is much better. Even Wildomar is better I hate to say. We lived in Wildomar and my kids had to go to school in Elsinore. We couldn't wait to get out of there!! We are now in Murrieta and love it!:)

Not much crime. Just the occasional bomb maker and some dumping of dead bodies. Oh yeah, they just arrested a child molester/ possible serial killer. On second thought, don't move here.

Those things happen all over the world. If you only look at the bad things that's what you will see. Meditate on the good, not evil. I have been here for 16 years or so, and it is what YOU make it. You must be diligent no matter where you live, the trend in Ca is to go into the "better" nieghborhoods and do home invasions. Keep your doors locked no matter where you live!

Lake Elsinore is not the problem its the sherriffs who not caused but keep it a problem. The lower income community will never get out the crime/drug infested rut that it is in when there is to many cops running around with shitty attitudes impounding 120 vehiclels in a single night. Think about it, that is 120 people times however many of thier family memebers depended on that ride for work shopping school doctors visits. And most of the people lost thier vehicle due to license/insurance/registration issues or due to a mistake they might have made 3 yars prior and cant do shit about because they lost everything they had when they were in jail and when they got ot they couldnt manage to learn how to teleport to all the stupid probation check ins, prop 36 meetings, anger management, drug registration appts, ect ect ect while having to get a job and find a place to live ect ect because they couldnt pull a car out of thier asses. It's called "keepin the man down"

Again the below is an example of crap that happens in every neighborhood, my only advise to fella's like these is 1) take care of your Sh1t and 2) think about what you do now so that say three years down the road you don't have to blame some once else for you not being able to manage the checks you have aquired for yourself; I read weekly about the check points and impounds/arrests that results from them, I see nothing wrong or injust about them, same stuff I'd read about five years ago when I lived in wonderfull San Clemente.

It's been a long time, feels good to post!

Viscaya is a gated community that is really nice. It is right by grocery stores a liqur store, restaurants.. I'm not sure how the crime is within the gates. It can't be bad! I live about a mile north of Viscaya & I have been here 14 yrs no problems for us! I love Elsinore. As a matter of a fact we are headed to the lake right now for some wakeboarding couldn't ask for more ;)
