Get rid of the city council that have been there for years and have let the city get to the state that its in. Crime is escalating more then in prior years. City streets have not been redone properly since Lara was here and we still qualified for grants. We don't qualify for any grants right now, to fix anything, because the city is behind on all financial matters. How does a city operate without having their annual audits done and without knowing what their current running balance is?

These are the questions that the city council is supposed to stay on top of but these council meetings are a joke. No real issues are dealt with and the same conversations keep taking place. The same political tactics are being done with no accomplishment for the City of Mathis. There is truly a lack of leadership in this council along with the school board. I guess from the slim pickings we have for this 2013 election, some change is better than no change. Don't you think?

I agree. If the current members are not engaged in the process, they need to be replaced. Complacency leads to mismanagement. The people that really care need to find thier candidate and help get them elected with the understanding that change is expected.

Oh sweetheart you are so wrong. I am definately not the individual you have in mind. But I'm positive that if you aren't the ghetto council member then you're one of her followers. Bet you're as classy as her daughters are. I'll be honest with you, neither you or that individual are good candidates.

Don't get all upset. Hopefully your mature and educated enough or just have common sense to recognize that the council as it currently is does not represent what I would hope Mathis citizens want for our town. We need members who will ask tough questions and know the financial state of the city. Several of the council members there didn't know and probably couldn't now conduct a meeting. Plus, from those who do attend the meetings, several of the ladies there don't even attend meetings regularly and sometimes a quorum cannot form. This is usually the problem when important decisions need to be voted on. We, the people of Mathis, deserve much better than what is there right now. It's just sad that those ladies/gentlemen know they are there for the wrong reasons and still do not refrain from running. The financial status of the town is unknown and the game of politics needs to be left at home when they are elected by the people to do what's best for the town. Stop the dirty politics and learn what's needed for the common good!
Mature people recognize our flaws and know when to walk away! I think it's time for the majority of these members to walk away. Mathis needs a better council! I sure hope that this town recognizes it and makes the change! I hope they are smart enough to not take favors or money for voting any particular way because a family friend or political person comes to your door knocking for their support. People need to be smarter!

Does it really matter! You look at the minutes of the meetings online and realize that they all look and sound the same. No serious issues like why the City is behind on their annual audits and yet there is no mention of that in the minutes. That's one of the reasons the City can't get grants to fix the streets or any other types of issues that haven't been addressed. You don't need to attend meetings every time if you know where the info is and can read. I don't rely on gossip for info it's all on the City's web page. Look it up yourself. By law all meetings must be announced and must also post the minutes to those meetings. The only info your not going to get are those that are discussed in closed session regarding employment info and such but financial ledgers and info regarding those are open to the public and therefore most City' Council meetings discuss such issues openly so that the community sees that those elected are on top of the financial matter. A city can't run proper if you don't know what your running account balance is. No family household can and definitely no city can either. I need to stop- I might be educating to many members who don't know that! LOL

DOES IT REALLY MATTER !! Really yeah it does, you sure do seem to think you know alot for someone who just reads the minutes . Truth is you don't know anything, you claim to have never even been to a meeting but somehow you know the city is behind on audits (but there not in the minutes), HOW do you know that hmmm. You seem to think you know everything. Again I know who you r.

Do you not remember it being in the newspaper last year? They were barely posting 2009's audit if I'm not mistaken. Wow! 2009 audits don't reflect the city's audits being current. It's 2013 and that means that the city should be posting 2012 audits pretty soon. Lets see if they post anything current. What do you think since you know more than I? Why else does the city not have grants to that have published in the paper since Lara was here. I think that for someone like you knowing so much, I have given more facts than just blaming reasons as to who attends meetings or not. Go to the newspaper office and ask Sulley when the last audit that was published last year, what year did it reflect? It doesn't take a smart person to realize that if the city is barely placing in the newspaper 2009's audit that they are behind in their financing. You don't need a degree for that just common sense. Annual audits are usually placed in the newspaper to let the community know what the City's accounts look like so that people don't suspect fraud. It's a common practice in every city. Didn't you know that since you attend meetings or are a part of the council? By the way, I've never claimed to never been at a meeting; just didn't give a number. I know where to get factual info, not gossip. So far the info I have stated has come from the newspaper and the council minutes. Now are you trying to say that the council isn't giving current facts in the newspaper? If they are not, then yes maybe my facts are not so true if the council is giving incorrect info to the paper and the community.

If you think you know whom I am, then contact me. Shouldn't be difficult for you to find out where I live. I honor the visit and look forward to seeing what stupidity stands before me. Hmmm!

If you read my last post again, it states that the finances/audits are not in the minutes. Like the previous post stated from OMG, they were in the paper last year. I sure hope this isn't a conversation with a child. This info is posted in various places that are outlined for every city. Finances are a matter of the people of that town. I sure hope that OMG is incorrect when implying the council may be giving citizens incorrect info on the City of Mathis' finances. That would be against the law and a real breach of why the people of Mathis elected these officials for in the first place.

Thanks OMG for letting people know that this information is out there and for coming to my defense but the facts don't lie and I hope this person realizes it. It's open documentation!

I think you are a dumb person. You give no facts and yet criticize others. Your immaturity and lack of knowledge is showing.

To Citizen and OMG, you don't have to have this person seek you out. Obviously, they are concerned that the dumb people of Mathis may actually be paying attention and they were hoping we stayed dumb. You don't need to be confronted by ignorance. Stay away from this person, they are crazy and ignorant!

I know who you are....
