The lions den is great place the original owners are back in charge after dwight and wayne had it for two months and about ran it into the ground.....the drag shows on saturday are just as good as gainsville the cast has had some changes and are a very of performers... why don't you people stop talking about things you don't know and give them a chance the gay people in lake city should be proud to have it available you who else had balls to bring you your first gay bar not to mention sponsering the first gay pride celebration in this town. You should unite and help them succeed without them you have no place waste your gas and drive somewhere else because the bar is just what you make it theres only as much drama as you bring........think about it you all have been given second chances in life give them a chance
I will be moving to Lake City in July and am excited to here there is actually a gay bar in town. I was a little worried I would have to drive an hour to find any fellow GLTB folks. I hope to stop by soon and check out the show!

HI JESSICA! The hubby and I moved to Lake City in early July! There seems to be a "melting pot" of people here. We have not encountered anyone that is overtly rude or hateful to us. Having said that, we don't throw ourselves at each other in public either. So far, we like Lake City alright. It is a small town but it has a bigger city feel to it. We came from a much bigger CITY in the Midwest and didn't know what we were moving to. We are very glad we did!

Just found this thread while searching for gay bars in the Lake City area. Looks like I'm a bit late to the party, but I did check out the new business that opened where the Lion's Den was (I think it's just called "The Cafe"). It's not specifically a gay bar, but they're very gay-friendly and have gay/bi people working there. It's the most gay-friendly place I've been to in this town by a long shot and there I've definitely seen some gay people hanging out there on the weekends.

Jim is right. Dwight and Wayne almost destroyed The Lions Den. It took a community to build this place, but two people, Dwight and Wayne, almost destroyed it.

The last is left to repay 20,000, so just remember what goes around . comes around!!!

The failure of the Lions Den is because the owner did not have practical business methods. The same goes for Lake City Pride, a group that always met there. I was glad to have been able to attend the pride the first time, when my husband and I went to check it out. We come from South Florida, and my husband is bisexual and was interested in checking it out. When we went in 2012, we swore it would be the last time. There were only 4 or 5 tents and not many people out.

A friend of mine had talked to me about the origins of how the Lions Den started out and how it faltered; from shady deals and fraud to just absolute unethical business practices. Apparently, the owner of the Lions Den had a penchant for spreading rumors and giving former employees and colleagues a bad reputation. Recently, a friend of mine who was heavily involved in both TLD and pride had said he had to clean his name up after it was thrown in the mud by the owner because he moved to another city for work; who spread rumors that he stole money from the organization to having no respect for others in Lake City. I do believe he has reclaimed his name; but he really should not have to.
Another person I know said that the owner belittled her when she worked there, and was ultimately fired because she was being accused of stealing from him. An additional person who worked for the man elsewhere said that he kept making fun of his help while he was doing his hair, embarrassing the poor boy.

All in all, based on what I was told and what I have WITNESSED, the Lions Den was on a fast track to a downward spiral before it could even reach a pivotal point in Lake City. Last year, the same owner promised us another Lake City Pride in 2014. Just days later, apparently it was cancelled (which I literally called) because of some mishap. I am very disappointed with the way things went here. I only wish nothing but the best for the Lake City/Columbia County LGBT and straight ally community; but if anything similar to TLD was to begin again or if another pride comes to town, take my advice: find another leader because the one that most of my friends have talked about is nothing but low class and not a good example for the LGBT community. Pride leaders and business owners should have more class than what this guy did.

Stopped by tonight while in Lake City and was totally disappointed. I thought this would be a fun place for gay people, boy was I wrong. Service was awful and the atmosphere not entertaining at all. I do not see this place lasting long.
Is the Lion's Den still open and functioning?
