any day and for any reason , wait and see if the occupy crowd don't get crazy in most major cities this summer and look at the protest over this young man killed in fl. and these protesters don't know what happened except for what they see on the biased news media and from the race baiters , with unemployment and the country in shambles . i could see the govt. enacting marshal law for any and all of these reasons and also suspend any further elections this fall .

Best to have a GTFO pack ready.

Here is a list of items you should carry in it.

Socks *
Under garments *
Small first aid kit
Pocket Tool (Like a leatherman)
Hatchet
Sharpening Stones
FM - 21-76 (Military survival guide)
Compass and map(s)
Small survival kit
Deck of cards
2 month supply of prescriptions (if needed)
3 - Changes of clothes *
Steel firestarter and striker
lighters (refillable w/ extra fuel)
Candles (tea lights are best)
2 - pocket knives
magnifying glass
Paper and pencil *
Whistle (on lanyard)
Water purification tablets
dried foods
can opener (P38)
Bedroll with mat.
8' x 10'(or better) tarp - Not the blue ones!

and other small personal items for each individual

*= in it's own watertight bag

--

There are other lists across the internet, consult them also.

--

Notes when choosing a pack:

Get one that is your size.
Get one with a water bladder.
Get on that has hip protection.

Wear the pack a few hours, fully loaded.(I walked from one end of town to the other while I had mine loaded to make adjustments to comfort)

Recheck your pack about every 6 months.

You can message me here, and I can provide more resources, if interested.

Awesome!

Have you looked into solar array's or a solar furnace?

Also, having dual fuel lanterns and stove helps.

A wood burning stove is a great addition.

Might also want to have a telescope, if you mountain setting is well enough.

A small garden is a great addition.- I would incorporate a greenhouse.

If your near a stream, you can use hydro power also. Use a reduction system to build pressure. I built one for a friend in NC, started with a 24' pipe, and reduced it in 8' lengths to 1/2". She gets most of her power from using it, and uses wind/solar setup. She is off the power grid completely.

Not quite that far down, but still, it's scary. We are close to a few big cities though.

I hate to think it's that close, but I am hearing that with everything the way it is right now, something's bound to happen this year. I believe we are just waiting for a "trigger".

You may want to also invest in something like this. http://www.goalzero.com/shop/p/66/Extreme-350...

It can run a medium sized ( 4-6 person ) camp.
