This joker seems to clearly be looking for a loop hole. Ironic that loop hole may end up costing him even more than if he just paid his taxes.

I can see if he wanted to exempt the "chapel", but not the entire estate ...

What time are the services? I would like to catch mass before they shut him down.

Can you just imagine if this sleazebag wins his case; every church-attending homeowner with a disabled relative will start holding "services" in their homes just so they can request tax-exempt status. It's sickening enough that REAL churches - many of which rake in PLENTY of dough ("non-profit" - HA!)- are exempt, let alone a bull***ter like this guy.

1. So attorney Belongia can first insist that the Armenian "Church" of Lake Bluff is a legitimate church, then next he can insist that he is a legitimate lawyer, and then finally he can insist that his only interest is bringing out the truth and the facts.

2. NOTE: If I was a judge, whenever a lawyer made a statement that I considered to be a baldfaced lie, I would ask the lawyer whether he was willing to: one, make that statement under oath; and two, also immediately sign a statement agreeing to go to prison for twenty years if his statement was later proven to be false.

Um... This article probably shouldn't link to the entertainer George Michael. The subject of this story is not the same person.

Anyone who hides sinful deeds behind a cloak of "religion" is surely doomed if there is a God in heaven. Boy-crazy priests, televangelist grifters, tax evading troglodytes, bomb-carrying fanatics, self-righteous church shooters, I hope they all burn.

It's a nice try, but come on, folks. If everyone avoided taxes by converting their homes into church, you'd have a lot of people bitching because no one is picking up the garbage because the municipalities don't have money to pay for such services.

GET REAL!

Taxes may "hurt," but they have a purpose behind them. And for every corrupt government official, you can find corrupt private industry people whose "take" must the public thieves look like amatuers.

Yeah, the taxes have a purpose. Your arguement is correct - the trash pickups and other essential servies would stop before the bureaucrats and the frivolous spending of our dollars felt the pinch.

Most reports indicate that this guy is a scumbag. I'm still in favor of sticking it to the government whenever you can, until they get the idea that it is OUR money and not THEIRS. If they would use it responsibly, taxes would be quite a bit lower.

Misplaced Texan,

I respectfully submit that you are conflating two issues. I believe you are in favor of tax reform, which can happen through successful political pressuring and prudent vote-casting, and responsible, conservative fiscal policy. I am with you there.

Though I may be wrong, I doubt that you are really in favor of naked tax evasion - especially when the particular tax evader co-opts religion as the vehicle to further his evasive scheme. I am not with you there.

Why no discussion forum allowed for the front page piece re the sordid and tragic lane bryant murders? Anyone else feel there is a link between the store manager and her former 'pastor' who is trying to establish another 'church' in texas?

You're right - I'm really not in favor of tax evasion. The law is the law. My support for the guy is based on my belief that every level of government needs tax reform, and the hopes that actions like this might actually make people think a little about this issue.

There is a point that was brought up in a previous article that was left out of this one. The tax burden that this guy is getting out of is going to be spread out to across his neighbors. If I were one of his neighbors I’d be furious.

I hope they get him for the $115k plus interest and court costs.

I think we should send a busload of Mexican immigrants fearing deportation to his church for sanctuary. HA!

Shut him down!!!!

You're going to have to dummy your reponses way down. This story was on the tribune. Your words are too big for us.
