While I'm very committed to the cure for Autism, and the early identification and implimentation of treatment for all.
My son who just turned 18 was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome(what we consider late now a days at the age of 10.) We have worked very hard trying to get the services and treatments he needs to succeed. He has a high I.Q. and graduated high school this past August with a 3.9 GPA. He wants to live on his own, but have been unable to find appropriate housing that provides the structure he thrives in to become a productive member to our society. He's now attempted two semesters in college and has failed misserably due to the fact that colleges insist that "504" students must ask for help, a weakness my son has. He wants so badly to be normal and tries do things on his own. Our family sees him slowly slipping into severe depression and we see "Autism Hopeless" instead of "Autism Hope". He was born in 1989 two years in the recognition of this catastophic epidemic. What is happening to these new Autistic adults that need supported living? Where are these youths going for success? We need help. Cathy Fantulin R.N.
