For decades now, the mantra in business has been "do more with less"; I think it's time government was put on the same diet.

Before the tax cap was enacted into law, my property taxes were just shy of $3000; when the tax cap was enacted, they immediately dropped by a third. After appealing my assessment, which is under law limited by fair market value, my taxes will be about $1500. IMO that's a good thing: maybe now we'll get a government that doesn't spend like there was no tomorrow, and which actually takes actions which have long been standard practice in business, like performing a cost-benefit analysis before committing our money.

No the government will just find other ways to tax you because they are not able to run like a business.Your taxes will go up in other areas.More county income tax, more state tax, more gas tax, etc.
Big business will reap the benefits from a property tax cap and the people will pay.
Take note after this passes and mentally document the tax increases and new taxes that come along in the next 3 years. Remember the next time they put a question like this on the ballot with no explanation of how the difference will be made up.

DO NOT !

I repeat DO NOT !

Believe anything thats these people tell you.

They,...the "Politicians" will poromise YOU the Moon and Stars,.....BUT NEVER DELIVER !

I remember when there was NO SEAT BELT LAW.

Well,..the Federal Government started threatening the State of Indiana to with hold $ Funds $,..if the State didnt pass a Seat Belt Law.

That within itself is unconstitutional, BUT thats the way things are done,....

OK,..so its decided to put it to a vote,....let "The People" decide,...

So a "clause" is added onto the ballott to let the peoples voices be heard,....

The Citizens of the Great State of Indiana,...were asked how they felt about a Seat Belt Law, that would add greatly to the Safety, Health, and welfare to our Children, while passengers in any vehicle.

The citizens of Indiana were told that that they would NEVER,....EVER,...be pulled over by the Police, simply because they, an "Adult",...wasn't wearing a "Seat Belt",..that this "Seat Belt Law" was for the porpose of adding more safety for minors riding in vehicles.

What happens ? The bill gets passed,..it become LAW.
and NOW there are SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT ZONES,..
where Officers of the Law hide out in areas before the SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT ZONE,..to catch "Violators" before they reach the "Zone",...
in order to catch unsuspecting drivers NOT wearing a Seat Belt,..and PUNISH them by Ticketing,
and $ FINING $ these "Adults" that werent wearing a Seat Belt.

A blantant slap in the face, of anyone thats old enough to remember how they passd this "Law",..then went against their word, and now use it as a form of Revenue.

OK,..

Remember when Indiana wanted to allow "GAMBLING" ?

The citizens of Indiana were promised that enough funds would be generated from "Gambling" and the "Lottery" that Indiana would have ,...

THE FINEST SCHOOLS,......

THE FINEST EDUCATION SYSTEM,.....

THE FINEST ROADS AND HIGHWAYS ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES !

WHAT HAPPENED ???????

THEY LIED !

THEY ALWAYS LIE !

THEY LIE,..
TO GET WHAT "THEY" WANT,...
ANY WAY THEY WANT IT,...
THEN SAY ,...."F**K YOU",..if YOU dont like it !

By then ,
when YOU realize that you've been "HAD",...
its too late.

People,...our Government, thats is Supposed, to be looking out,.."FOR OUR BEST INTREST"

ARENT !

So, I say VOTE against anything, and everything, that supposed to "Help" us.

Cause it hasnt worked out in our favor yet !

Vote no! I am hearing right now from a few property owners that they getting re assments in the mail and their assessed property values have gone up...get ready for them to do you know what! They will freeze the rate but not the assessments!!! Smaller less contolling government is needed. Without cutting education, fire, police and other essential services. The schools and local government needs to be left in the hands of locals only! I did not vote on any of the polls here except the property tax I didn't vote for me against Mr Paul.

For all of you people that are so against the property tax caps - why don't you withdraw your mortgage and homestead exemptions? That way you can pay your fair share of the property taxes. I'm sure the city/county would truly appreciate the extra tax dollars! Maybe Duke Bennett and the county commissioners will place you on their Christmas card list!

You just don't get it.These people are trying to educate you.
Please do what you want but I promise you will be sorry if this passes, unless you have a $250,000 home,a farm or you are in business for yourself.
What would it hurt if They would only explain where the shortfall from this Cap were to be made up?

Thats just it,...YOU,.....and people like you,...just dont "Get IT"

I live in a neighborhood, that 30,..even 20 years ago,..was a great place to live, raise a family, send your kids to the school down the street,...and your house,...your property had a value that reflected its worth.

Now that the neighborhood is "Mixed",..and has a diverse group,..that being White,..(remember when the neighborhood was all WHITE and held its "Value"),....then the influx of blacks,..which brought the Property Values DOWN, DOWN, DOWN....and now we have Hispanic's, that buys these delapidate, run down, often burnt out properties, set fire by the Blacks that got EVICTED, then came back and set fire to the rental property,..and then bought up by Hispanics that rebuild, and increase our neighborhoods Property Values,.....so what once was, will never be,
again,..untill we get rid of all RENTAL PROPERTIES,..which will never happen,...or simply refuse to rent to BLACKS in a WHITE neighborhood, because they RUIN Property Values !

The house I own,..is worth $150K,....I have it insured for $233K, for the Cost of Rebuild, and then you add Loss of Use, another $60K,....Loss of Contents,....a Modest $35K, to say the least,...
there's items in here that are PRICELESS,...their ONE OF A KIND,......
FAMILY HEIRLOOMS,....you just cant put a pricetag on things that have been in your family for Generations.

I even still have my childs "Baby Teeth",..and she is now 22,...I know their not worth anything,..but that gives you an idea of how I hold onto things that just cant be replaced. I still have her Baby Pacifier !

OK,..so my house is valued at $150K,...by my Insurance Company, but,....because of the influx of Blacks moving into my neighborhood, and the Economy the way it is,....
I could NOT sell my housed for $25K,....IF,.....I wanted to !

So,....some one,..from the "CITY" decides to appraise my Property Values,..and decides that my Property is worth $80,$90,$100K,..and access my Property Taxes based upon his "Appraisal",.....

YET,..when I go to the Bank, to take out a Mortage on said Property,
the man comes out, measures the property, the house, checks the condition of my Property,..inspects the house, garage, inside and out,....turns in "HIS" Report, based upon a set calculation, and the Bank comes back with an Appraisal of Value set at $29K,..and tells me they can only "Loan" me $25K,....there is something WRONG !

The City wants me to pay Property Taxes, based upon what they consider my property to be worth,...but the Bank, and any other Lending Instutution will Value my house at 75% less??????

The only way,....I could get a Fair Market Property Value out of my house,..is if it burned to the ground.

That is what Equil Oppertunity, and Afirmitive Action gets you !

Even decent, honest, hard working black people, do NOT want the kind of black "Riff Raff" Drug Dealing scum in their neighborhoods bringing their Property Values down,..then the city making them pay a higher Property Tax than their Properties worth.

Somethings got to get set straight,....."IF" a house is bought and paid for,..NO Mortages,.....NO Liens,...then there should be NO PROPERTY TAX !

Once you buy a car, and its paid off,..the only "Tax" you pay, is for Plates.......a Home should have the same rewards !

I get it! The property tax cap will help protect property owners from the city/county/state from continuing to hit the "Easy Button" by just continuing to raise taxes to fund everything under the sun. This is one step in bringing fiscal responsibility to this state.

I finally got the answer from my friends at the State House that I have been waiting for.
To offset lost revenue from the property tax cap, they have a number of items on the table.
Raising gasoline tax another 5 cents per gallon,a 3-2-1 initiative, which basically charges $300 for your 1st child in a school system $200 for the 2nd and $100 for the 3rd,and changing the way that property values are assessed.
I no longer have children in school so I will probably vote for the tax cap!

For those of you that are against the property tax caps, keep in mind...Over the past decade property taxes have risen faster than the wages of workers. We as taxpayer's have had to make the hard choices and adjust our lives to accommodate this additional expense while local governments continued on with business as usual. Making those cuts certainly wasn't a problem they had to deal with.

Vigo county passed CAGIT to offset property tax increases. Did this stop them from continuing to raise property taxes anyway? NO it did not. Once again less money for us and we had to make the adjustments.

How about the wheel tax? This too was to be a temporary tax, I believe 5 years in duration so they wouldn't have to raise property taxes. Has it gone away? No it is still with us after what, 15 years?

Isn't it a shame that local government must now make hard choices and live within their means. Local government is campaigning for people to vote NO on the caps because it was much easier when they could put the burden on property owners. The use of scare tactics such as threatening the loss of essential services sickens me. Their job is to make it work with the available revenue, just like folks do at their "kitchen table" every day.

I'm for the caps. I do not want my property tax liability turning into a 2nd mortgage, which is exactly where property tax was headed.

If I have to pay a higher tax elsewhere, so be it. At least EVERYONE else will be paying their fair share and not just a select group.

By capping the property tax, it makes it at least a LITTLE more difficult for the Indianapolis movers and shakers to give away money to the pro sports teams and other things (like that nutty No-So development).

Although it hasn't stopped such nonsense, it makes it harder and gets more scrutiny. And I hope it wll become harder to slip such things through as time goes on. It becomes a politician's hot potato nt an obscure school system matter that only people to attend school board meetings hear about.

Once they can be trained to quit giving away our tax dollars to billionaires, we'll have plenty for schools and public safety.

I dunno,I disagree. I don't care if we resemble a third world country. I don't care if our infrastructure is crumbling. I don't care if we close every single library. I don't care if our schools are broken and shuttered. All I care about is we got the Colts and Pacers . I enjoy walking through the mall and beaming with pride whilst wearing my Colts sweatshirt. It brings much pride to have professional sports teams in this city. Gosh people, get your priorities straight!

Funny that people fawn over rich sports players but angrily complain about rich corporations. Why is one cool and the other evil? Why doesn't anyone beam with pride while wearing a Cummins shirt at the mall? Why no tailgating while they wait for the truck driver C1 Training Center to open up? Why no 'Internional vs Kenworth' rivalries? Why no fantasy longhaul truck driving leagues?

Ah property taxes.Just one of the reasons I will not vote.In Putnam County Indiana my family owned outright and faithfully paid taxes.Still though when the dope dealer I knew in 1972 became politically involved,we were barred from the county and refused access to our home.It appears that I was not wanted around. He and his buddy the judge that I had not gotten along with and who held a 30 year old grudge against me.I know you are asking over what were we barred from the county.Recieving harrassing or threatning phone calls.Yeah thats right.Recieving phone calls.Check it out. That was the Indiana Republican party.Everyone that is running for any major office in indiana were contacted. No one cared. So I say before taxes are capped they need to be explained. What are they for?The former dope dealer is now a prosicuter. The judge was discliplined for not adhearing to the law but is now on the prosicuters staff.Where are the property rights that are afforded to taxpayers?
