The property owners have been getting it stuck to them for years! It's about time the people who don't want the responsibility of owning a home pay their fair share.

So, if I am understanding this correctly........people who live in Mobil Homes won't pay taxes on the home itself, but will pay taxes on the ground? And landlords can't be taxed any higher than 3% of the assessed value of their properties?

The rest of us can only be taxed at 1% of our assessed value...right?($100,000 value =$1000.00/year) I think I am confused!

If you're kvetching about the amount of taxes you pay, you're not earning enough. Get a better job. And buy a smaller house.

Big business should receive breaks--they create JOBS. What does the Average Joe create? Whine, whine, whine. You've been making up the differences in taxes for decades and NOW you want to say enough is enough? Give me a break.

Not so fast Buba! No state constitution required that taxation be by value or required that rates on all kinds of property be uniform. In 1818, Illinois adopted the first uniformity clause. Missouri followed in 1820, and in 1834 Tennessee replaced a provision requiring that land be taxed at a uniform amount per acre with a provision that land be taxed according to its value (ad valorem). By the end of the century thirty-three states had included uniformity clauses in new constitutions or had amended old ones to include the requirement that all property be taxed equally by value. A number of other states enacted uniformity statutes requiring that all property be taxed. There were forms of taxation to provide finances to defeat the world's greatest superpower. The way was made not to force citizens into this form of taxation. Get all your facts first before you spout.

Having worked as an accountant for the state of Indiana for 15 yrs I would be VERY suspicious of this so called tax cap.The working man living in a medium to lower priced house as well as all renters will pay a high price if this gets voted in.

Doesn't matter what happens with this. When the state wants more of our money, they'll get it! If it doesn't pass, they'll raise your property tax, if it does, they'll reasses you.

Sad when one has to come to such a forum to get information such as this.

I have always felt that academia is the last place to look for any real world projections. Few if any of those in their ivory towers have an conception of what the guy out here turning the crank is facing.

I say take all the lazy people off welfare and other government assistance. Then they won't need to raise our taxes...what we are already paying would be more than enough to pay towards state needs such as roads or education, etc.

I honestly think the Indiana voters are entitled to more information about this amendment and the impact of what it means AND we deserve to have this information prior to the election. It's not very often that we show up to vote and they actually have an "issue" that we get to vote on. On the surface it appears to be a good thing, however, I have a feeling there is more to this amendment then we are being told. I bet 75% of all people voting in the State will not have heard about this prior to showing up to vote. And I would also bet that they will vote yes because of the language used "tax cap".
I would totally agree with you on that they make it sound like a good thing to sell it to ya..It's all politics and we all know how that go's...lol They promise ya everything and you end up getting nothing..

I think they need to educate our kids more about pregnancy and planning a life before children..What comes first ya know? A job being number one then the rest following in order to make kids more responsible and productive adults not on welfare..
So many now just have kids to get a check it is sad..I have to agree with ya it's just tooo easy money to some people..The saddest is they want the money not really the kid ya know? Only what the kid can give them..

You know what,...

I can understand paying Property Taxes,.....while you are "Buying" said Property.

But once the property is paid for, and no other Loans, Liens are Due,.....Why do you have to keep paying a "Property Tax" on your land every year?

Just another "LAW", to MAKE,......."YOU",.. ......
Part with your Hard Earned Dollar !

Look at it like this,....You buy a COKE,,....you pay for it, and pay any tax on it,....but you dont drink it,..so a year later, you still have this "Coke",..and the "Powers That Be" insist YOU pay Tax on it,......."Again",.. year after year.

Man,...When I buy something, I pay my TAX on it,..and Im done with it.

But NOT on "Property Tax",.....you might think YOU own it,...and it belongs to YOU,.....but WHY do YOU have to keep paying money on something that you've already paid for ???

Its bad enough the Utilty Companies double, triple, charge us for the Gas and Water we use, for services they say they provide, but DONT !

My last Water Bill was $5 Bucks,..but after they added on all the "Extras" I had to pay over $25 Bucks,.....for using $5 Bucks worth of water.

I agree with umizoomi. Can anyone explain the 97,000 jobs? I feel the caps will help some people, but not the average person with middle class income. Why make it permanent? It has not been tested enough to see who it will help or if it will help just a few. Bruce Borders says this is once in a lifetime but who is it really good for. No one seems to want to answer that one.2594

I had to research this Public Question and was lead to this site:

http://indianapublicmedia.org/news/monroe-cou...

I hate to be so simplistic, but when I realized that the three politicians in the video all OPPOSED this Public Question and were all liberal Democrats- that is ALL I had to know to SUPPORT this on the ballot on November 2.

ANYONE with a "D" next to their name - oppose them. They are destroying this country.
