We took our grandchildren to see the Monsters vs Aliens movie at the Goodrich theater in Columbia Mo yesterday, March 27, 2009. They charged us an additional $2.50 per ticket because it takes the movie producers more to make a 3-D movie. Well, do they know there is currently a recession? This is unacceptable. After the large cost to purchase the tickes, and $30.00 for popcorn and small sodas, we could have had a great time somewhere else. We could not tell our grandchildren we weren't going after they had been so excited about seeing the movie. We are frequent movie goers but will certainly go to a different movie theater in the future.

It's true. 3-D prints of movies are much larger than regular 35 mm film. Plus you get the 3-D glasses. Therefore, of course it is probably going to be a little more expensive... I am not sure why the ticket prices are so much, but GQTI offers a "Twilight" time between 4PM and 6PM that costs $5.50 a ticket for anyone and everyone -which is also the price of a child's ticket ALL DAY. And if you are a grandparent, did you ask for senior pricing? We aren't supposed to assume that someone is of senior age, so generally you should ask (nicely!) for it. Also, ALL TICKET SALES but 5%-if even that- goes to the film companies and such. Which leads us to the reason that concession items are so expensive. That is how all the employees get paid -the staffers, the projectionists, the management team, and pretty much everyone else- and our pay is still generally crappy. You could have brought your own food items (as long as it's not alcholic or noisy or very strong-smelling). I work there, I would know. We don't care. But if people were to stop buying concession, and even tickets, guess what happens?! Your local movie theater goes out of business. If you claim to be such a frequent movie goer, why are you JUST NOW complaining? Our prices have been around the same at least the past 3 years that I started working there, and have gradually increased by a FEW CENTS each time as minimum wage increases. If it's such a problem, go to a secondhand movie theater -you may have to wait until the desired movie arrives there (generally a month after it's release) and the tickets are $5. If you're lucky, they might even give you free popcorn.) Or another option is to rent a movie and watch it in the comfort of your own home. Go to a movie in Chicago - tickets there would be a good $10 AT THE LEAST for probably any age. And even if you do go to another movie theater chain because GQTI is "outrageously expensive", they are still gonna be around the same price as us. Generally around here is the cheapest you are gonna get anywhere. So good luck.:)

CORRECTION: Secondhand movie theaters are $3, not $5. My mistake.
