Everything was all fine and good with this company...the rent was competitive, the employees were friendly and helpful, and they responded fairly quickly to maintenance concerns. The apartment wasn't the cleanest when I moved in, but nothing terrible. The oven door fell off the oven the first day I had keys, but they replaced it pretty quickly. The painters were sloppy and had gotten paint all over everything, but whatever. Everything else was great. Until I moved out. I spent two weeks cleaning the apartment when I moved out, and did literally everything from mowing the lawn, to washing the windows, to cleaning out the cabinets, the oven, the fridge, etc. I even swept out the garage. I did everything but professionally clean the apartments, and wash some crayon marks off one wall in one bedroom. It was in much cleaner condition when I moved out than when I moved in.
Imagine my surprise when a month and a half later, I received a bill for almost $1000. After keeping my security deposit, they were still demanding I pay them $759 for supposed damages. Believing in the honesty and goodness of others, I did not take pictures when I vacated the apartment, nor did I think anything of it when the landlord never alerted me of the final walk-through. I offered to pay for carpet cleaning and to paint over the crayon marks. The owner of the company would not accept that, and we are preparing to go to court over it.
If you choose to rent an apartment from BW Parks, do yourself a favor and protect yourself as best as possible with receipts, pictures and demand a final walk through with both parties present.
