hmmm that's odd, as an IU grad I HAD to take a certain number of credits and certain classes at the IU Bloomington Campus to fulfill the requirements of my degree. Also, I do believe that it is required of all majors to take some classes at IU Bloomington if that is your "home" campus...

[IU Purdue and Ivy Tech]

Articulation occurs when the two schools meet to discuss courses, curriculum, books and instructional methods. After agreements are reached on all of these areas, the credits for said course will transfer equally to the university.
At less than $100 a credit hour with actual professors, Ivy Tech is a bargain on the lower level classes.
Sure, if you want to be elitist and say that the Purdue or IU education is better, fine. Just know that these same IU and Purdue professors probably worked with Ivy Tech to ensure that those Ivy Tech courses met the IU and Purdue requirements.

Purdue provides a high quality education and has high standards for incomming freshmen. Even so, many new students fail out. Unfortunately not all high schools provide the background work needed to succeed at Purdue as a freshman and also many students have not developed good study habits. Ivy Tech and other similar colleges may bridge the gap between a mediocre public high school experience to promote the personal qualities and educational foundation needed to suceed at Purdue. If when they are admitted to Purdue, transfer students are not properly prepared, they too will fail. Their success depends on their ability to learn and change while at Ivy Tech.

My Ivy Tech physics class was actually a LOT more difficult and educational than my PU-Lafayette one. In fact, a big chunk of my grade at PU was based on attendance, which we faked by trading off who had to go and having them punch everyone else's ID's in the keypads. Our professor didn't speak english worth a dime either.

I took classes at Ivy Tech before continuing on and finishing at PU and honestly say the quality of the Ivy Tech courses/instructors was much higher than the "up yours" PU equivalents.

I have to agree with you fully. I have degrees from both IU and Purdue (Physics and EET, respectively) and I have taught at Ivy Tech Community College for many years part time. Many of the students I see are not prepared for academic work at IU or Purdue because of their study habits and/or their family situations and responsibilities. I also agree that in my personal experience, the interaction between professor and student is generally not the same quality at the large universities as it is at Ivy Tech. I honestly work very hard to interact and monitor my students to help ensure that they not only grasp the subject matter but can apply it in a useful way.

Ivy Tech plays a very important role as a post secondary institution in our state, and I have to say I am thrilled when I have a student who, after graduation, tells me that he or she plans to continue on to the baccalaureate at either IU, Purdue or other college/university. It also makes me proud to know that that student's courses will not have to be completely repeated-I've seen that as a huge stumbling block for years! The General Assembly did the right thing this time.

jeese i hate to sound like a pos but i make $95,000 with my ivy tech degree. i also graduate with only 3000 in student loans. and in a bit more than 2 years. computer ladies.... ivy tech is the new age

You obviously know nothing of ivy tech students just because the rules are a little more lax at ivy tech I went to Purdue for a year dropped out and had the same arrogant mind set that ivy tech was nothing more than high school for college age people so i waited a semester before going because Purdue won't reaccept you unless you have gone to a trade school ie ivy tech and i learned more at ivy tech from real professors not just ta's who hadn't gotten to teach the course they wanted and were now stuck with the courses i took that didn't know any thing about --the teachers actually care and are available i gained so much more in my time at ivy tech than Purdue i am now back at Purdue at ivy tech there are so many over achievers who think that Purdue is so hard it's not any harder academically its harder to understand your ta's that don't speak English compare the drop out rate of ivy tech to Purdue--you'll find it much lower. ivy tech is actually the #2 most popular school--try not to prove how arrogant you are next time

While IUPUI might not bee to hard to get in to, it is very hard to get thru; they don't habd out degrees. Only 1 out of 10 get thru to graduation.
