Ooh for Heavens sakes Bad Dog! Relax Everyone knows whats going over there with the BOS and the

about poor decision making on the behalf of the county.

That would be great Mrs. Deagle. And I hope you are correct.
But how and when are the people going to do that?
Most have no knowledge of the things going on.
Who is running against Wayne (King) Acors?
Who are the other candidates for BOS?
Are we going to allow Mr. Ashcraft to waste more taxpayer dollars to build a public safety building or are we going to listen to the sheriff and use the Union Bank Offices for a public safety building since it is also a bank and designed for safety? And move Mr. Ashcraft into the Sheriffs offices.
This county has the potential to be such a jewel. It is the last rural mostly forested county between Petersburg VA and Maine on I95. It is close to major population centers. People need a place to unwind and relax. Caroline offers so much outdoor recreation. The land is not suitable for development in many areas due to high water tables and soil that will not perk. Yet this same feature creates rare and beautiful ecosystems with a diverse variety of life. This the our diamond in the backyard. Capitalize on it promote and protect it. But instead the plan is to destroy it and make Caroline look like every other place devoid of natural beauty in the US.
Percy keeps saying the Visitor Center is not being built with tax money. Well where does he think Government grants come from. And what about maintenance, upkeep, and day tot day operations? That won't cost the taxpayer of Caroline County?
These people should have been on the street last election and King Acors came very close to losing, but fact is he didn't lose and the county continues to be run the way King Acors has run it for the last 20 + years.
Here is the reply to my letter to our Six figure salaried and benefited, County Administrator:
Tom:
I will respond by paragraphs:
(1) The Budget is not finalized yet so I cannot comment on that.
(2) Thatís just how I prepared the speech.
(3) I answered that in a previous e-mail.
(4) Security is being handled by the Fairís Public Safety Committee.
(5) No comment.
(6) No comment.
As for the purchase of the Bankshares Building, it is an idea that is being explored. Such an idea would increase space for several government offices.
I hope this clarifies.

Sometimes you get the urge to really let loose on some people. This is one of those times. I normally don't post things on the net, but today I just have to. Caroline County is rural county. It has been that way for many, many years. As someone who has lived in many areas of the country, I have seen the best an area can offer and I have seen the worst. Caroline County, situated between Fredericksburg and Richmond has been a good retreat for those who are fed up with the "Get the Hell out of my way" attitude that you find in Both Richmond and Fredericksburg. When I first moved to Virginia from Georgia I moved to Midlothian. Houses piled on top of each other, traffic going to and from work a living hell. I finally moved to the Glen Allen side of town and the issues with traffic, people, and commercial sprawl were just overwhelming. I met a girl and we got married. OUr townhouse that we rented went up for sale and we had to move. Renting was not an option, might as well flush $800-$1200 down the toilet. So we started looking for a house. Good Lord. House prices, even ten years ago were just outragious. And the house that were up for sale were either new houses (built in about 1 month and you could tell) to older houses that needed so much work it was not worth looking at. My realtor then took me to Caroline County. My wife, who was used to shopping 5 minutes away from the house was not so pleased with the fact that the closest grocery store was 15-20 minutes away at Thornburg, but today you could not get her to move any closer to "commercial Hell" as I call it. She loves it here and is planning on spending most of the rest of her life here. Any thing else needed required a drive to Ashland or Fredericksburg.( I learned real fast what time to hit Central Park, 2 in the morning). ladysmith was just a stop light at that time. When the Food Lion shopping center was built in Ladysmith, we were elated. Finally got an ABC store to help. We moved into Lake caroline 10 years ago. If some of you gripers lived here then, you would be really upset because there was NOTHING around here, which, personally, I really enjoyed. One of the things that I found that I liked about developements like Lake Caroline, lake Land 'or is that they were not just cookie cutter homes like what is going up in Ladysmith Village and the other new subdivisions in the area. Lake Caroline, which has been around for 30+ years had a diversity of homes from large lake front homes to small 2 bedroom ranches and price tags to match. I have found some great friends who have lived in this area all their lives. I have found treasures in this "backwords" county that you cannot find anywhere around Richmond or fredericksburg. The fact that when I leave my subdivision, I am not bombarded by mass traffic and store signs every 10 feet is a great change from the weeek day crap I have to deal with when I go to work in Glen Allen.
If you have such a hard time with the area and the way that we are "Backwards" and " PoDunk" then I suggest that you exercise your rights and sell your home to someone who may appreciate the rural aspects of this area and move to where you can be around all the traffic, stores and what ever that you miss or need. remeber, this is a free country and you do have the right to move.

By the way, for those of you who complain about han=ving to travel 20-30 minutes to get to your favorite store, the other day I had to go 5 miles up West Broad Street in the west end. It took me 30 minutes. OHHH the advantages of living in town!

so much in regaurd to conveniences. I am very furstrated with my decision to buy a new home in caroline county.....recently found out that the only high speed Internet service offered really sucks and is more of a rip-off. Bottom line I hate

I dont thnk caroline schools are bad i am a student there and they have fixed it ip good they have security cameras everywear and if you get in a fight they crack down on you bad so carolin schools arent as bad as you think okay

Brandi, what grade are you in? Because your spelling and grammar isn't making a strong case for the school system right now. I'll be the first to admit that my spelling is pretty bad, especially for a college graduate, but ... really.

I'm just glad my wife and I agreed to wait another 3-4 years to have kids... so that gives the schools like 8 years or so to get better; and I think they will.

Fredericksburg.com - Caroline pumps up confusion

Board Chairman David "Maxie" Rozell Jr. said the county needs to do more research on the issue. "We have to figure out where everyone's septic system is located on our maps, and it's very confusing," he said. "It will take time to do it right. "At the end of the day, we want requirements everyone can live with and also a better bay. We're not there yet." ..........

I wonder if anyone in management in Caroline knows how to "GOOGLE?"

chesapeake bay act septic pump out - Google Search

It would appear not. This law is only 20 years old. So why so much confusion, when so many of the surrounding counties effected by this law have already encountered these problems and been down this road and all the info is readily available?

Does anyone realize how many of the unethical pump out contractors save money and time by pumping their "load" out into local waterways? A friend of mine caught a contractor not once, but twice trying to pump out his truck in their communities pond. His excuse was it was too far and expensive to go to the treatment plant. Lovely! So what are the counties and State doing to put and check and balance on this?

The cure may end up being more damaging than the problem due to the dark side of human nature.

We love the new Ladysmith Village. How adorable. It is too far from hospitals for our family, so it doesn't work for us. However, if it did, we'd be there in a heartbeat.

As for Big Dog's question about the Fair and the security... I've lived in Richmond nearly my entire life and every year when I went to the state fair, I can only remember STATE POLICE as the security for the event.

Sorry My Thoughts, that is not how it works Henrico county and the State Police participated in Security because the Fair was in Henrico. However with only 4 road deputies for a county larger than Henrico (sq miles)( not population ) we just don't have the taxbase or money to provide such. The state police will only provide security at the 3 major events. The other 200 plus days of events a year at the Meadow will be on Caroline County.
Call Sheriff Lippa who was against the public safety plans for thsi from the beginning. He will be glad to explain it. He was a Henrico county cop, State Trooper first Sgt, before becoming the first trooper of rank in VA to run and win for a sheriff's position. I think he has a good background in the subject matter.
His number is listed under Caroline Sheriff since I'm not allowed to post it.

They are building a new hospital between the Massaponax and Thornburg exit... It'll be right up Rt. 1, maybe 10-15 minutes away. Actually, they are talking about adding a new interchange off of I-95, so you could just go on the highway, and go north 11 to 12 miles, and then exit off right next to the hospital. The distance away from the highway was one of the big problems of Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, so they're trying to fix that by adding 2 new hospitals. The one I already said, and another in Stafford.
I was worried about the hospital being too far away at first, but this new one should solve that problem. It probably will take another 3 years to be built, but I can wait.(3 years is not official, I'm just guessing, it might take less) Once it's up, I'll be happy to be only 15 minutes from the hospital... that beats most other areas.
Just like most things in the Ladysmith area... it'll take a few years, but things will come together. And once they do, this area will be great.

The facts are slowly coming out.

The RTD today ran two articles on Atlantic Rural Exposition Inc. dba State Fair of Virginia's move to Caroline "sometime in the future."

Supposedly there is a financial deal between Caroline and Hanover counties for water and sewer. That means the Caroline taxpayer is footing the bill to provide water and sewer to Atlantic Rural Exposition Inc. Yet to be reached is a deal between ARE and Caroline County. So even if the Fair provides some money in the future for utilities Caroline Taxpayers will still lose.

The wording in the RTD story on State Plice is ARE a private company will contract with the State Police for

1. Traffic Control.

They will assist law enforcement with anything else.

That is not what the two State Troopers said at the BOS meeting where the Fair deal was passed. Governor Warner promised the State Police would provide security, since Caroline Sheriff's office did not have the manpower or money.(deal breaker for the project)

And this extra support will only be for ARE's three main events, the other 240 odd days Caroline Taxpayers are on their own.

Since the county is already in the hole with the purchase of a million plus dollars in Ladder Trucks for 2 fire houses. And they are hiring more personnel to cover the huge amout of government work ARE will create. Howis the taxpayer ever going to recover when the take is less than the actual cost of just public safety services.

WAKE UP TAXPAYERS OF CAROLINE, Curry Roberts and Wayne Acors are playing you for suckers and for that matter all of Virginia Taxpayers.

Curry Roberts is not planning on coming off a dime.

I'd like to know how you can get away with animal cruelty in this county. The animal control does not respond when they receive complaints and innocent animals die from lack of water and exposure to the elements as did my next door neighbor's dog. Am I the only one concerned about this? Feedback appreciated!

They need mroe funding, and a new shelter...

They were supposed to get an expanded shelter, but instead they are just 'renovating' the old one, which now has 3-4 dogs in the same run, where there should only be one. The cats are crammed into small cages and stacked ontop of eachother...

They need to triple the size of that shelter, and double the staff. But that won't happen anytime soon.

The Chesapeake Bay Act is a pure joke. When the residents of Caroline are required to empty their septic tanks every five years, then they let out of state companies bring sludge from out of state to put on their farms in Caroline which then gets washed out into the streams and water of the county. It is not properly treated sludge at that. How much does the county get paid to let them put their sludge on top of the ground when the residents have to have a septic tank?

Eric, you make excellent points.
Mrs. Deagle, are you simply complaining or will we be seeing you pitching in to help?

Bad dog aka Tom James has been slaughtered on the issue of the fair and other topics on FredTalk.com in the Caroline County forum there.
At the moment he is trying to explain why an article he linked to that says tax increases will have to be made to cover water and sewer costs will be going to fund the fair like he claimed.

Mrs. Deagle, I'm assuming no one held a gun to your head and forced you to move to Caroline. We moved here almost 2 years ago from Stafford and love it here. Our life is less frantic, and we enjoy the quiet country life. If you're that unhappy, move...as the saying goes, "Life is too short to wear tight shoes."
