FEDERAL ACTION NEEDED
Its time to send a clear message to local governments (mayor, commissioners, police, code enforcement) about civil rights violations, fraud of the public under the color of law.

RLC FLAWS
A Police Chief said "Red Light Cameras" don't lie. Why are Orlando and other cities Red Light Cameras ticketing innocent drivers 100 miles away. The driver's vehicle never been in the city or county.

PETITION FOR REFERENDUM 2010
Red Light Cameras SHOULD HAVE BEEN voted on by the people and not money grabbing elected officials and RED LIGHT CAMERA companies.

SCAM
Taxpayers are the new "ATM" scam for local governments. Highway robbery at its best.

ELECTED OFFICIALS FACE FEDERAL CHARGES
Dealings with red light cameras

This city is in dire need of red light cameras, and I'd personally buy one for the local police force in my community of Altamonte Springs if I had the dollars to spare. Nothing is more insidious, dangerous, or widespread in terms of road hazards than the practice of running red lights. I have traveled extensively round the world, including many third world nations and European countries like Greece that are legendary for their poor driving practices, yet Orlando leaves them all in the pale when it comes to the homicidal practice of running red lights. It's just one big glorious game, drivers seeing how far they can push their luck, brazenly running lights and simply daring traffic with the right of way to hit them. It's just sheer lunacy and highly dangerous, brought about by poor driver education and even poorer attitudes, the 'screw you' attitude of recent generations that put themselves first and don't care one iota for the welfare and safety of others.

The sooner the authorities sanction the widespread use of red light cameras the better off the community will be, not least because the cops do nothing to police the practice, preferring to spend their time sitting back comfortably earning their revenues via speed traps in suburban go slow zones. Better that than actually do some work by setting up near busy intersections to nab red light runners.

As for some of the other posters here who don't want them, wake up. I come from a country where the cameras have been in use for years, both in permanent and mobile form, and its done wonders to curb the instances of accidents and fatalities caused by people running red lights. It's a major offense and should be treated as such, because there's no excuse for anyone who kills someone by running a light - it's reckless endangerment, nothing more and nothing less. It's not a game, nor is it an infringement of your personal rights, unless you consider it your right to try and kill others with a ton of metal hurtling along at 40 - 50 mph.

If the FloriDUH legislature is so worried about finding funds, all that they have to do is order the FHP to start handing out speeding tickets on the Durnpike. What a cash-cow that would be, the national debt could be seriously paid-down in a hurry not to mention making it safer and drivers more fuel efficient. BUT that isn't going to happen anytime soon because the legislature and DMV is in bed and snuggly with the oil company that has the no-bid franchise on the turnpike's "service plazas" where the price of gas is the highest in florida and by the way they also have the no-bid contract to have a non-stop roadway re-surfacing sleeping arrangement along with State farm Insurance for their so-called "Road Ranger" program. the point is that the Red Light cameras will undoubtably prove to be a major revenue source for local governments but one massive one already exists on the horrible but mainly ignored speeding violations on the Durnpike but no significant enforcement is visible by the FHP, so I am left to wonder what sleeping arrangements will develop for that little goody once nobody is looking? Kissy kissy!

At first I was opposed to the camera's. then I found out the true definition of a red light runner. There is just no way you can't avoid not running one unless you intentionally do it. So, now I feel, if you get caught, then you did it. And should pay. If someone else is driving your car, give it to them. One person told the judge that he was not driving and who was, and that they gave it to the actual driver and the judge let him off. But ensure the actual drive had been cited. That's the way it should be. This is NOT a big brother issue. It's right out in the open and if you get caught, you should be punished. If a cop catches you, you'll get hit with points as well. But not if it's the camera. I think it's great now.

Red light cameras are not for safety, they're for making money. Fortunately I'm smart enough to hire a lawyer to fight it. I'd rather my money go into his pockets than the city/county.

We're all disappointed that you keep beating this dead horse.

It's been proven that red light cameras increase accidents, including fatal ones.

Stop demanding the unnecessary deaths of innocent people for revenue.

If red light cameras were such a good safety device, why don't you see AAA and similar groups arguing for them? It's because they are designed to generate $$$ and have nothing to do with safety.

Good luck with that. So far no one has sued over the cameras' legality.
I wonder why...

You Bet! Waste some more hard earned taxpayer $'s on this crap. If they kill themselves or others it just less mouths our new socialist government has to feed. BO wants to make those veterans pay for their own damn health care. He probably wants everyone to smoke as much as possible and die as soon as possible. Geeks and dick heads.

Every week another editorial about red light revenue generation. Does someone over there have a relative at the camera company? Or own stock over there? Drop it already. You made your point. You wants cameras at every intersection.

Sure, red light cameras will "free up" all those police resources to doing something more useful. I suppose "saving lives" isn't useful. The problem with the convoluted logic of the Sentinel is that red light cameras will not save lives or reduce accidents. Independent studies such as that done by the University of South Florida and others have shown that at least, rear end crashes increase when they are installed. As a result, police have to work the additional accidents. There are likely to be at least 30 percent more red light intersection accidents as a result. To reduce violations and crashes is, increase yellow light time. Red light cameras will act as nothing more than a cash machine for greedy verministic politicians.

P.S. I am glad too see more people understand now then ever before, and the politicians may not get away with this after all.

I was rolled with haters when this issue came up last year, for simply pointing them to studies that showed facts.

Just ask yourself the last time the government said "I will do this for you to keep you safe."

It takes people to die to get stop signs put up, do you really think this is for safety?

Still? Still the "Editorial Bored" (sp. intentional) is beating this drum?
Good Lord... get another agenda. Oh that's right, mandatory fines for seatbelt infractions is their other Cause Celebre.

No wonder newspapers are going out of business left and right. Yet, this trash rag still hanging on by a thread. Must be the money they're getting kicked back from the red-light camera companies that's keeping them afloat.
