As an avid pilot and co-owner of a Cessna 172 at Hawthorne I would like to know the definitive cause of the crash. Mustapha Sesay (Issac) was my flight instructor for my Instrument rating as well as a friend. I meet him through his my father also a good friend and am devastated over this trajedy.
I believe the NTSB will ultimately will conclude that on the final go around the engine experienced a catestrophic failure and quit at a very low altitude to where the plane has not sufficient room to glide back to the runway and safely land.
Only about 1 in 10 fatal general aviation crashes result from engine failure/fire or inflight breakup due to inadequate maintenance. The vast majoriety of crashes are from pilot error that include flying into severe weather conditions, clouds or zero visibility where a pilot has not had instruction to do so, incorrect air speeds at critical phases in flight, and impariment due to alcohol or perscription drugs.
