NAMI the National Alliance on Mental illness: A pharma front lobbying for positions counter to the welfare of the mentally ill.

In 2004, NAMI opposed the placement of "black box" warnings on antidepressants determined to cause suicide in under-18 year olds, and in 2006 opposed black box warnings on ADHD drugs causing heart attack, stroke and sudden death in children in 2006. Despite overwhelming evidence of serious adverse cardiac events and sudden deaths caused by ADHD drugs, in 2006 NAMI took the position that the “black box” warning on ADHD drugs was “premature.”

Gee thanks, NAMI shows you care !

Lilly donated at least $3 million to NAMI. For its part, NAMI promotes the increased use of psychotropic drugs, and even lobbies for laws allowing people accused of mental ilness to be assaulted , coerced to force them to take antipsychotic drugs. The drugs most often prescribed for involuntary patients -- Janssen's Risperdal (risperidone) and Lilly's Zyprexa (olanzapine)-- cause debilitating, indeed, lethal effects. NAMI's failure to inform its constituents about the danger these drugs pose for patients, and its continued aggressive promotion of these drugs despite the evidence, may be viewed as confirmation that NAMI is an extension of Lilly's marketing department.

Gee thanks, NAMI shows you care !

True patient advocacy groups allow the voice of people who actually take mental health drugs themselves. True grassroots patient advocacy groups are likely to have "fire walls" against donor influence, like policies against accepting funding from drug companies.

NAMI , funded and ran by the psycho pharmaceutical industry.

Imagine if all the leading anti-racism groups were headed and run by white people. All the feminist groups headed and run by men. All the LGBT rights groups run by heterosexuals.

What would happen?

Mother Jones, in an article in its November/December, 1999 issue, identified a questionably close relationship between NAMI and major pharmaceutical companies. MoJo wrote, "According to internal documents obtained by Mother Jones, 18 drug firms gave NAMI a total of $11.72 million between 1996 and mid-1999. These include Janssen ($2.08 million), Novartis ($1.87 million), Pfizer ($1.3 million), Abbott Laboratories ($1.24 million), Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals ($658,000), and Bristol-Myers Squibb ($613,505). NAMI's leading donor is Eli Lilly and Company, maker of Prozac, which gave $2.87 million during that period. In 1999 alone, Lilly will have delivered $1.1 million in quarterly installments, with the lion's share going to help fund NAMI's 'Campaign to End Discrimination' against the mentally ill." Critics pointed out that NAMI tends to emphasize drug treatments for mental illness, and that pharmaceutical companies tend to shape the group's agenda. "They appear to be a completely independent organization, but they parrot the line of the drug companies in saying that drugs are the essential thing," said Janet Foner, a co-coordinator of Support Coalition International, an activist organization of "psychiatric survivors."

The Attorney General of Louisiana has filed suit against Pfizer, Inc. for concealing “serious issues” regarding Zoloft’s efficacy. Citing a “deliberate, systematic practice” of suppressing unfavorable trial results, publishing ghostwritten articles, and paying key opinion leaders, the lawsuit asserts that Louisiana’s medicaid program reimbursed of prescriptions for the drug that were made under false pretenses.

Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries will pay more than $2.2 billion – one of the largest health-care fraud settlements in history – to settle criminal and civil liabilities arising from marketing of Risperdal and its injectable version, Invega, for uses not approved by the FDA. J&J admitted to inappropriate promotion of Risperdal to treat elderly, non-schizophrenic patients for symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, depression, hostility and confusion.”The conduct at issue in this case jeopardized the health and safety of patients and damaged the public trust,” said Attorney General Eric Holder.

http://www.saddleback.com/ Saddleback church please reject NAMI

"The spirit of a man can endure a sick body, but who can bear a broken spirit?" (Proverbs 18:14)

NAMI insists that all behaviors are a result of broken brains !

"Chemical imbalances" are to psychiatry what "the missing link" is to evolution.

There is no scientific proof that chemical imbalances even exist, must less that they cause mental illness. Drugs don't fix chemical imbalances in the brain, they create them.

Psychiatric drugs do not work by correcting anything wrong in the brain. We can be sure of this because such drugs affect animals and humans, as well as healthy people and diagnosed patients, in exactly the same way There are no known biochemical imbalances and no tests for them. That's why psychiatrists do not draw blood or perform spinal taps to determine the presence of a biochemical imbalance in patients. They merely observe the patients and announce the existence of the imbalances. The purpose is to encourage patients to take drugs. Ironically, psychiatric drugs cause rather than cure biochemical imbalances in the brain. In fact, the only known biochemical imbalances in the brains of patients routinely seen by mental health professionals are brought about through the prescription of mind-altering drugs. Psychiatric drugs "work" precisely by causing imbalances in the brain—by producing enough brain malfunction to dull the emotions and judgment or to produce an artificial high. Some people may choose this alternative because they do not know that other options exist or because they have lost faith in themselves and in the ability of other people to help them, or because they have been taught to believe that their brain is defective and that a drug will temporarily fix the problem.

NAMI doesnt care at all about the millions of people hurt by psychiatric drugs.

They say "it does more good than harm".

The reasoning, no matter the difference in words, is basically the same; the death of one or a minority is justified if in doing so you help many or a majority, and ensure the happiness of a greater number than those you make suffer and destroy, the issue being reduced to a mere numerical game. It is moral relativism at its worst, yet this is one of the most common lines of reasoning amongst proponents of psychiatry and the labeling and drugging of children.

The numerical game is all about dollars, NAMI will never bite the hand that feeds it.

The involuntary psychiatric drugging of people living in their own homes, in their own neighborhoods, is an especially alarming phenomenon. Since my article was published, the use of coerced outpatient psychiatric drugging is accelerating. In the USA, psychiatric drug industry front groups like NAMI have won increased federal support for this authoritarian approach. In Canada, UK, and Australia, similar front groups are making headway. We are witnessing the globalization of a new “chemical prison” industry.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS: NAMI fraud

Parents are being mislead by NAMI and a multi billion-dollar a year child drugging industry that a diagnoses of "mental disorder" (ADHD, Bi-Polar, Social Anxiety Disorder) are medical diseases or illnesses. This is a fraud. No child has a brain scan, blood test, X-Ray or any evidence of physical abnormality to verify they are "ill" or "diseased."

Yet NAMI continues to relentlessly pound the public with misleading and fraudulent statements that these so called mental disorders are biochemical or neurological conditions. That is false. They are simply a list of behaviors that psychiatrists vote into existence and insert into their billing bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

NAMIs efforts led to well over 8 million children in the U.S. taking mind-altering psychiatric drugs.

NAMI and its drug makers funders are increasingly getting caught in the act of illegal marketing dangerous drugs to children

In July, GlaxoSmithKline was found guilty of the largest health fraud in US history, and was fined $3 billion after pleading guilty to three counts of criminal misdemeanor and other civil liabilities relating to a number of different drugs, including Paxil and Wellbutrin
In June, Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay $2.2 billion for illegally marketing its drug Risperdal
In 2009 Eli Lilly was fined $1.4 billion for the illegal marketing of its antipsychotic drug Zyprexa
Bristol Myers Squibb was fined $515 million in 2007 to settle charges of illegal marketing of Abilify to child psychiatrists
Pfizer paid $301 million for illegal marketing of its drug Geodon, and
AstraZeneca has paid out $520 million to settle illegal marketing charges of Seroquel

In each of these cases, the NAMI and the drug manufacturers and were targeting children, despite the fact that none of the drugs in question were FDA approved for use in that age group.

To understand how effective these illegal marketing schemes are, consider that sales of antipsychotic drugs to children have increased eight-fold since 1993. Sales to teens have quintupled, while adult sales doubled in the same time frame. In 2008 alone, an estimated $6 billion was spent on off-label antipsychotics in the US, of which $5.4 billion was for uses based on uncertain evidence!

NAMI , stop drug pushing in our schools and churches !!!!!!!!
