This is such crap!

"Cassel stressed that there are considerable economic benefits to product stewardship, estimating the state could save $8.5 million annually if leading toxic products such as batteries, electronics, fluorescent lighting, gas cylinders, medical sharps, paint, pharmaceuticals, phonebooks, radioactive devices, thermostats and tires were disposed of responsibly."

Yea buy a prius the batteries will last 3-5 years and then must be "recycled" at a huge cost using a large amount of energy. how green is that?
Oh yea recycling almost anything costs tons and uses energy lots of it.

REPLACE your perfectly functional thermostat with a programmable one! dispose of that mercury, put even more mercury into this system by buying it new, and since it's a computer we will have the manufacturing process that eats up resources and energy, the disposal of even more hazardous waste (PC Board), and have to replace that Chinese made POS in 6-8 months cause it SUCKS!

OOOOO switch to "Green" fluorescents! they last sooooo much longer. BS! They fail about as often as incandescent, and...wait for it...They cost more energy to recycle, contain nasty chemicals, AND are made in... you guessed it CHINA!

This is FALSE ECONOMY! GREENYS are so caught up in their own little fantasy they fail to see the big picture. Green is not only more costly to the consumer, it HURTS the environment.

DRIVE A Jeep you'll still have it 20 years from now and in the mean time that Prius owner will have gone through 6 vehicles. He may have saved a minuscule amount of gas but the manufacturing and disposal of his 6 cars will leave a much larger carbon footprint than that 1 jeep/ F150/Chevy Tahoe/ fill in the blank. That's has a reasonable life expectancy.

Ya want to save the environment? Good for you!
Go take on BP, Exxon, Mobil, special interest, fricking Government!

Leave me my old school light bulbs and my thermostat that has worked just fine for 20+ years and I am perfectly capable of turning down when I go to bed, and go after those that dump metric TONS of nasty crap into the air. Those that dump millions of gallons of crude oil into the oceans.
Those that build nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, biological weapons. Use your energy for something fricking productive.

Good luck with that one. I can just imagine a wooden computer with a paper keyboard, for starters. If we stop using plastics in auto manufacturing, you won't be able to drive your little toy electric car - the motor won't be able to move the weight of the replacement metal - or wood, I suppose. But I'm sure you've thought that all out. Yeah.

yes i thought it all out but i wasn't silly about it. plastic can be replaced with aluminum. wood. glass. paper. and yes do you remember it was only yesteryear we had wooden cabneted televisions and stereos. going natural is not going backwards. modern humans can have no waste. right now we are cave people when it comes to waste.
