Review: Pets & Co LLC

Charlotte, NC

I was not too impressed with "Pets & Co.". When I walked in, the odor was pretty stiff. Granted, this is a kennel with a lot of animals. The staff wasn't very friendly at all. In fact, they were downright terse with the animals. I did end up leaving my dogs, even though my gut told me not to.
When I picked them up, they had feces on their paws and they were soaking wet (it had been raining). The play area is very small, which probably explains the feces. Anyway, even though I pointed this out, the girl didn't offer to clean their paws or even give me a rag so I could.
The dogs didn't lose any weight during their stay.

Brent, if you are referring to the Pets & Co in Chesterfield, MO I apologize for your unpleasant experience. Our staff not only should have cleaned your dogs paws but should also have offered to dry them from the rain. We strive to be the best in our industry and we take any complaints to heart. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and quality care. If there is anything at all we can do to make up for your bad experience please let me know. You can contact me directly at Again, my deepest apologies, that situation was not handled correctly and your dogs should have left Pets & Co in better condition than they came in.

My small dog was attacked and almost died due to the irresponsibility of P&C. Blair, one of the owners, called crying hysterically to tell me. She was not calm in order to help me, the owner, so you can imagine how I felt. They took my dog to the Vet Clinic across the street from them..and left! They did not wait for me; they never called to ask about my dog; they never offered monetary help; I never heard from the owner of the large dog. Worse yet, I was told that the large dog stayed yet another day and went after another dog. We sign a waiver, yes, but we don't expect our pets to get attacked and almost die. Maybe a bite or scratch but not this. I had to pay $1400 out of pocket. I was told small dogs are kept separate from the large dogs yet Blair said a large dog attacked my dog. Is this a place who knows how to care and watch over our pets? No. They are irresponsible, inexperienced and uncaring.

I was honest and truthful with my review on March 28...I have doctor records and pictures. How someone could mark my review with a mean face is dog was close to death and spent several nights in the Animal Hospital. A total of $1400 was paid at my expense. I stress to all they did not stay when they took my dog to the Vet across the street from them...and they NEVER called to check in on her or apologize...I had to contact them. I have to wonder if the mean mark is from someone at Pets and Company. And if so, I wonder how they would feel if they were in my shoes and it was their pet.

Here's how I look at my March 28 and April 5, 2010 comments, I tend to wonder if it is the staff at Pets and Company who are posting the unflattering review pics - any animal lover out there would never give an uphappy face or nuts review to what was those that gave these reviews, please post a comment and I will reply in order to help you understand - if it will help, I will upload the pictures and the 3 Vet records on my site, all of which have the same dates.

At the end of the day, I am grateful and thankful to the Vets and Techs at the Veterinary Group across the street from Pets and Company, at Manchester West Veterinary Hospital, and the 24 hour Animal Emergency Clinic in Kirkwood. They are Sophie's heros and we can never thank them enough. All contributed to saving her life and expressed beyond care and concern. They were all amazing.

Pets and Company has to live with how they handled everything and the fact if it was their dog, I have a feeling they would feel and / or react the the same as I did. Afterall, our animals are apart of our family and family is everything.

I love pets & co! The staff is very friendly. My rambunctious puppy loves going to daycare and he always leaves happy, yet exhausted (the perfect combo for snuggling on the couch later!) I would definitely recommend this facility to other dog parents :)
My only hope is that one day they will be able to expand their play area!

Dog Mom- I sympathize with you on the fact that vet bills are expensive and the fact that your dog sophie was hurt. However, I feel your review is very harsh. Due to the fact that I am a former employee I know how much pets and company cares about the dogs. I can speak personally that those dogs are pampered and loved like they are our own! They have fresh water all the time, clean blankets and rugs and mats always, are let out 4 times a day for 20 minutes and they can play with all the other doggies! The dogs are let out in groups of small dogs, medium dogs, and large dogs. Your dog sophie was not let out with big dogs I can assure you but that doesn't mean she was never around larger dogs within the kennel. The facility is set up so when we let the dogs out they all run out together. You sign a waiver, and you leave your dog. If you believe your dog won't do well with other dogs then tell the staff to put your dog on a out alone list. It isn't a big deal plenty of dogs do that and still get the same time outside and more personal attention anyways... I'm sorry I just love pets and company and know it is an amazing dog kennel because for the year i worked there, i know that the floors were vacumned and mopped every day (in the kennel, hallways, and foyer) basically my whole job was cleaning so the other comment offends me too. just because you came in one time in the place smelt bad does not mean that it smelt bad the hour after you left... PETS AND COMPANY IS AMAZING AND CARES ABOUT THE DOGS STAYING AS MUCH AS THEIR OWNERS DO!!! we all knew the dogs names by heart and i can assure you they are cleanest and most loving boarding facility in missouri, probably even the midwest.

Also to clarify- when I said "sophie was not let out with large dogs but that doesn't mean she wasn't around larger dogs within the kennel" i meant that naturally, as anything in this world, mistakes do happen. i do not know the situation directly but dog mom you are correct in one area, what happened with sophie was probably due to inexperience, a mistake made by a new worker, a kennel wasn't latched or something. but believe me when i say those workers don't last longer than a day. Pets and Company fires people until they find solid workers, and trust me, people got fired all the time. I do feel very sorry your dog was injured, as I am positive blair and everyone else was, but it was not due to the entire facilities inexperience by any means. Occasions like that are very rare and it's extremely unfortunate you had to go through that. But pets and company did everything they could by taking your dog to the vet and contacting you immediately... blair was crying because she was scared for your dog and called you the moment it happened, not because she didn't want to help you.

My dog King loves this place! Before I found Pets and Company I would board him and he would come home acting strange, timid and scared. When I send him to Pets and Company he comes home happy and it doesn't take 2-3 days to get his personality back.
One of the reviews said it smelled. I don't think it's bad at all.

I took my himalayan there and he got the lion cut but came with that was a huge burn on his back his but was raw couldn't sit down . If u looked at its I could have sworn she scalped his back. I'm not from here just moved so I got in touch with my old groomer and she just what she did her clipper blades were too hot. Plus the girl who did that to him claims he was fine when he left. Now if u people r fur moms like me u no your and when something is wrong. I made a complaint to the bbb . She should even have licence to touch any animal!!!!!!!

Be careful, your dog may end up boarding in a tiny crate that he/she can hardly stand up in and turn around in because they are "over max capacity" during holiday seasons and don't actually have room for your dog to board in an actual kennel room, but they will assure you they do have space because I assume they need the cash flow. I also found the dog trainers and front desk staff to be incredibly unprofessional. They seemed cold and uninterested in my business. Not impressed with the way things are handled at Pets and Co and would highly recommend a different kennel/pet sitter.
