Labor unions are designed to fight for employees not jeopardize your jobs. Labor unions lobbied for the 8 hour work day, minimum wage, unemployment insurance, social security, and eliminated child labor. Stop being paranoid unions are there to help. Unfortunately TN is also a right to work state. you can be fired for any reason and you have no real protection in most jobs.

Tammie, both of the union shops I worked in no longer exist. Your job can only be secure if your employer is profitable. If you all really want to join the union, go join one elsewhere.

I never said unions were guarantee job savers but they try. Never said I wanted to join a union. I don't even work for Nissan. I was interested in applying for a mindless temporary job to raise money. A job where I dont have to think. I was doing research and found this forum. After reading post and post of ignorant union comments, I had to reply. Anyone with a high education should know how unions helped shape the country. It's a shame reading all the brainwashed, red blue-collar comments.

I was thinking of working here to help me pay for a school I was thinking this or amazon. I was wondering if Nissan Yates offers tuition assistance and helps you pay for schooling like amazon does?

Tony, if you are on day shift we are off Friday, then they added Monday an Tuesday. They moved up an unpaid day on Dec 23rd. You will get paid 32 hours. Better get used to part time job, new fiscal year.

Doubt it but who knows. They have before. Sales are not too good right now. Manpower is bad, so doubt they do.

You sure sound like one, none of your post are from same location. Nissan has one of the better paying jobs, they have helped change a lot of people lives, most technicians speak up for themselves and don't need to pay anyone to speak for them. It is a shame you are not happy with your job, it appears according to all these posts some would be glad to take tour spot.

Ya can't blame Yates for wanting a union. Nissan workers get double time for Sundays & Yates only get time and a half. And they're getting forced to work lots of Sundays in Stamping. Doing the same jobs as Nissan workers. It's just not right.

55cent raise:/ how does that make u feel? Hopefully this will help some of the nissan guys lean towards the union a little more. Pretty big slap in the face imo. Thoughts???

What do you have to do in the training? And all these questions about drug tests gives me a pretty good idea of some of the ppl they let in there

Yates 2nd slave, all that so called raise does is pretty much give me back nearly all the $20.00 the government took from me the beginning of the year. That is not a raise. That equals little over 6 cents a year for the 8 we haven't got one pretty much. An to David W, they will hire almost anyone, standards have been lowered. Good luck, training will not prepare you for what you will face if you go to a job online.

I work at Nissan for Yates. I can honestly say this job is the easiest job Ive ever had. I have worked some hard ass jobs for alot less. Im also a veteran whos been to Iraq. I also work with $30hr Nissan employees, and I can honestly say that does suck. I just dont think Nissan will be able to survive paying us all $30 an hour. Wish they could lose Yates and pay us $5hr more and Id be happy. I think they said Nissan profited $600,000,000 last year. If they pay us all $24-$30hr they wont even be breaking even, do the math. So for that reason I would not vote a union in as of right now. I do believe the union threat is why the pay is better than most and I appreciate that, but I dont want Nissan to go broke. Companies have gone broke because of unions so I like the median of the current situation.
