Well i doubt it gets in smyrna anyway to find out. It might get in Canton, so we will see what they do if it does.

There was a protest outside of the Detroit Auto Show against Nissan and it's anti union tactics. A group of people, lead by Mississippi native an actor Danny Glover, gave out a paper and they talked about Nissan's intimidation towards employee organization. That is why they offered the opportunity of temps becoming Nissan employees in Smyrna, so no organization effort will start here. If they would pay better, treat people better, and listen to the workers better, this mess would not be at their doorstep. I commend the Canton workers for standing up to management. One or two cannot do it, it will take a large majority in Smyrna, and it will have to be the temps, since they are the majority now.

It sucks that it has come to part time. I tried to tell people on here it would happen. Three shifts was a huge mistake. Bad management. Common sense would tell you to quit sending crap out the door, over 20,000 vehichles outside of plant have defects. Slow the damn line down to stretch parts out an keep people working longer hours. Soon it will be plantwide. Highest paying part time job in the state. Soon the mass exodus of temps leaving cause checks suck will begin. Then they are screwed.

Yates has an revolving door for new employees going in and fired or quitting employees going out. They come and go quite often. It's not so much the actual work is bad, but it's the actual work environment and culture there. Only a few that can hack the pace and rates are kept, many good workers get let go because the rates are set too high, sad thing is the product isn't as good as it should be because they rush so much. Plus no incentive to work hard anyways... who wants to be a temp forever? plus big layoffs are coming on the leaf plant

Easy, couldn't have said it better myself. If they would slow the line down at least 3 cars less an hour, i guarantee they would get less downtime, better quality, and allot less defects. People would actually have proper time to do their job. I feel sorry for these newbies trying to learn these jobs. I would not want to do it either, on some jobs i barely have time to do it myself, so how am i supposed to show a new person how too.

I was thinking of applying for a job at the Nissan plant for a skilled trades position. But, after reading several posts on this site, I'm unsure if it is a good fit for me. Is it truly as bad as it seems?

Sounds like Corporate America to me. Do you know if skilled trades workers are hired directly by Nissan or if they are hired through Yates as well? Either way, does it really make a difference?

Nissan hasn't hired a nissan employee in around 8 yrs or more. They don't hire a "skilled trades" person. They hire out of desperation cause they cannot keep anybody new with any kind of skill. Half the people i train can't shoot nuts or bolts straight to save their lives. You will be a temp like everyone else.
