Authorities Monday identified a man who was killed after being struck by a car while changing a tire on the side of an Azusa freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The incident occurred on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway just west of Grand Avenue about 9:05 p.m. Sunday, CHP Officer Anthony Martin said.

Moises Delacerda, 35, of La Puente had pulled onto the right shoulder of the freeway after his 2002 Honda got a flat left front tire, Martin said.

While he was changing the tire, a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by 23-year-old Lerone S. Mullin of Azusa struck him, Martin said. Read more

Mullin drove away but was followed by a witness, who called 911, Martin said.
CHP officers located Mullin in Azusa and arrested him for a variety of charges including suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and DUI, he said.

how dare you ask us to leave him alone! He made the descision to drive drunk and he needs to pay for his actions. His irresponsibility took a life! There is no excuse in the world for taking an innocent life. His actions are irreversible. He can never bring our Moises back! We are so angry and hurt.

Whomever wrote the email that Mo could have had any responsibility in this trajedy should be ashamed of themself. Accidents happen, but Lerone should not have had any alcohol in his sytstem while driving and may God have mercy on Lerone's soul when Lerone's judgment day comes. Mo, you were loved by everyone who was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of your tender smile and will be missed dearly. Love you UB and see you on the other side.

It is heartbreaking and disgusting to read people supporting drinking and driving. Even if you are not "drunk" or are at the "legal limit" you are still responsible for your actions. A hit and run turned fatality is not something you blow off, much less drive home from and go to sleep after. "Sumone" and "annonymous"...you are the reasons why we have a judicial system. Mo...I love ya buddy. You are missed tremendously by all.

Moises you will be missed so much! "Sumone & Annonymous" you both are pathetic and ignorant! I hope Lerone finds Jesus, for his sake!

Fist of all, "annonymous," if you're going to call yourself that, you should at least know how to spell the word "anonymous." This just shows how ignorant you are.

The breathalyzer wasn't done until a couple of hours after the incident, and he was still at .08. Imagine what it was at the time he struck down poor Moises and just left him lying there? You're an idiot to think just because Moises didn't have his hazards on, which we don't know if that's even true, that it could in any way be his fault.

First off, I want to apologize for the loss of Moises. He was too young and it was a truly a tragedy. I also want to say that I was with Lerone the night of the accident. I was two cars ahead of Lerone getting on the freeway. Moises was apparantely pulled off to the narrow shoulder of the road changing his tire. I passed right by him without even seeing him because he wasnt visible to passing cars. I know everyone is blaming Lerone for having alcohol in his system but there are many other factors to look at as well. Lerone is a good hardworking kid and this truly was an accident. RIP Moises

A true friend does NOT let a friend drive drunk. Regardless of whatever factors were involved, Lerone was impaired by alcohol, hit a human and left the scene! That is cowardly! How could a person, especially a "good hardworking kid" do this...leave someone to die!?! Everyone needs to stop making lame excuses and try to learn from this. Try looking up the word "ACCOUNTABILITY".

Moises was a dedicated parishner at St. Joseph's Church in La Puente ... he was an usher and provided years and years of service whether during Mass or at our parish's fiestas and bingo.

We may wonder why it is that those most giving on earth and needed here to provide exemplary lifestyles to the rest of us are taken so quickly? No doubt that for those like Moises who were whisked away by God's hands, it is a blessing, but the rest of us need to make an effort to fill that void in our churches and communities.

The very least we can do, is pray for Mo and if possible attend one of the services being held for him, to show his family respect and the sorrow that is shared among those who knew him or knew of him.

TO "friend of mullin" IN SAN DIMAS - Moises might not have been visible, but you don't FLEE from an accident, especially if it was another human being you hit on the freeway.(Thank you for your apologies and kind words, but especially for referring to Moises by his name.)

TO "sumone & anonymous" IN DUARTE - That "other guy" you're speaking of, his name was MOISES DE LA CERDA and was beloved by many. You ought to have at thee very least some courtesy and respect for those who will be hurting for a long time to come and who will miss him in their lives. You never refer to victim of such a tragedy as "the other guy". It is incredibly rude and disrespectful for Moises' family, friends and to Moises himself and just goes to show the rest how much class you lack. And just to reiterate, even if your friend Lerone wasn't drunk and it was just an accident, he made the decision to FLEE the accident. Never bothered to pull over and call for an ambulance or the authorities. Lerone acted like a thug, drunk or not. I hope the rest of us all learn a lesson from Lerone's poor decision-making and never choose selfishness over the respect for human life.

My sincerest condolences go out to Moises' family. He was a friend of our family and will surely not be forgotten. Although i dont remember much of him both my mother and sister remember him fondly and his memory will always be something anyone who knew him can carry on.
I do ask this of anyone who is reading this or has read any of the past comments written on here.. HAVE RESPECT! for both families and people involved. Follow Moises' example that he gave so many of us at church, and have faith in God! Don't let hatred read on these comments and especially don't let it consume you.
Moises... I know you're with God now. Please watch over us and protect us. We all love and miss you very much! R.I.P.

This is not a blame game! My regards are sent out to moises family. we need cold hard facts and should not be making comments about opiniated news articles. either way both sides have been hit hard by this tragedy. Lerone is a good guy with a good heart, not some senseless killer. May God Bless both families.
