How very, very, very sad. I can only imagine what damage is being done, and has been done, to Mopar's heart, kidneys, and other internal organs. I'm sure this eight-year-old has already begun shown signs of painful and crippling arthritis.

I also feel sad that his human companions found it necessary to publicize him. Mopar needs his dignity, and parading around a precious animal such as he doesn't speak well for the kind of love he seems to be getting. Just because Mopar weighs even more than the other cat shouldn't be reason to turn his life into a competition.

Oh please, get over yourself. The cat is fine, happy and living a good life with people who love him.

My cat is only 17 pounds but also "fat". She had gastrointestinal problems as a kitten and I was advised to put her down which seemed ridiculous until I at least tried to find a resolution. We did finally find food that worked but then she just kept getting bigger and bigger even if we limited her food. She has always been regularly checked by the vet, she has no health problems (thyroid, diabetes, arthritis) she is just "fat". Her dr said as long as she is happy, active and has regular checkups that show she is healthy not to worry if she is "fat". It sounds like Mopar is very much in the same predicament. My cat is in a loving home, well cared for and very happy and Mopar seems to be as well. No one should be jumping to conclusions about Mopar or his owners.

I have a cat that had the same issue. She was up to 25 lbs, being fed 1/4 cup of food a day, and was still gaining weight. I too went to the vet to have her thyroid checked and everything looked normal. They simply told me to feed her less. If I fed her less than 1/4 cup a day, she would STARVE! She was lethargic, had bad dandruff, and had back pain. I found that her issue was with the grains in her food. She couldn't process the grains, so they were stored as fat. I switched her to a grainless food (specifically Innova Evo) and she took off the weight in about a year. She is now a healthy 11 lbs (she has a big frame) and is as active as ever. If there is anyway this can be passed to Mopar's owners, I think it would be worth a shot. It's not only the amount of food you feed, but also what is in it. Many cats cannot tolerate grains and things such as corn are a very common allergen.

I have a 5 year old siamese mix that is over 25 lbs and is the size of a raccoon. I have raised him with his brother is only 12lbs who eats 4 times as much as he does. He barely eats anything. Only fed 1/4 cup of dry food and no treats or human food. I took him to the vets when he appeared larger than normal for his age...he just didn't stop growing, I had taken him to several different vets about his weight. Thousands spent on him... final diagnosis.. he has a very slow metabolism. Gentics is his only problem. No food allergies, nothing physically wrong with him. He is loved, happy and has been a joy in our lives. He is still tested every few months for his weight and thyroid/kidney function tests and the vet said.. George is just George...Our new vet also has a very large female red tabby that tips the scales at 18lbs... It isn't his fault (nor ours) that his entire length of his body is the size of most cocker spaniels! He is just a genetic mutation in size! When he weighed 23 lbs at 3 years old.. he wasn't a chuncky monkey then.. just abnormally huge!

You really need to get over yourself, he's a cat. A CAT. what kind of cat is going to lose his dignity over being publicized?
