Are you saying by living in the La Porte, Deer Park or Pasadena area that it is toxic and we should be punished for raising our childern here? A little more detail might help. Is raising your childern in a house with a meth lab child abuse? Explain in detail who ever started this means.

Raising your children in ANY area that you know to be toxic... when there are cleaner areas around... could be considered child abuse.

The whole Bay Area is a cancer hot spot.

If it were child abuse, do you really think authorities would let us live here?

Second hand smoke is a cancer hot spot - smoking isnt child abuse.

Sweet & Low is a cancer hot spot - sweeting tea isnt child abuse.

Arguing with your is toxic, it isnt child abuse.

I'm trying to be serious here.

If you fed your children food you knew to be toxic... that would be child abuse.

What is the difference in raising your child near a refinery and allowing them to breathe toxic air, or play in the toxic rain?

iS SMOKING WEED TOXIC? Does smoking around your kids or young people mean child abuse? This is really not a good topic. Living with royce ziegler was toxic for baby grace? I am sorry she died, but this is far bigger than living around a plant.

If you smoked weed around your children it could be considered child abuse... under the law.

Why do you think it is acceptable to raise children around a chemical plant?

has anyone ever tested the air? how do you know it's toxic? sure, we don't live in the mountains breathing fresh air but saying the air around here is toxic is reaching don't ya think. if it were that bad, nothing around here would be living. don't get me wrong, i am not taking up for the plants, just saying that maybe a little fact finding before posting such topics would be the correct thing to do. as a former operator, these plants DO NOT wait till rainy cloudy days to burn off to the flares. as a matter of fact, when you see these flares go off, that is money lost. every heater stack, and flare has electronic equipment monitoring how much co2,nox,o2,etc... comes out. that report is for the plant as well as tceq. the plant will have to account for all pollution it puts out. i am not saying they are perfect, but its not what you think it is.

So... why is Houston the cancer capital of the world then?

Could it be all that "clean" stuff the chemical plants make and release?

heavy,
i am not saying they don't make bad stuff.as a matter fact, you would probably crap your pants if you knew what exactly they made. dupont here in laporte makes hydrofluoric acid(really bad stuff if handled improperly) all i am saying is it's not like you are going to die if you take one breath outside. as far as the cancer capital of the world, i would like to see some info on that stating that is true. perhaps that could be my motivation to move. i agree that the air could be better, but i chose to live here so i will have to deal with consequences of it. thats the thing with these plants.alot of people have made a good living from them. but, you have to be here to do it. would it be child abuse to live in an earthquake zone? tornado alley? no matter where you go, there are risks. they very computer your on, the materials were made here in houston area. the gas you use to drive, just something to think about.

heavy,
wanted to let you know about hazcom, hazard communications. that is the right to know law. that means you have the right to know what chemicals are present. if you suspect one of the plants of polluting toxins, you can request an msds sheet on the chemical and as a concerned citizen of this community, you have a moral obligation to report them with your findings. i promise you this, if you call texas commission on environmental quality with proof they are polluting, they will be here faster than you know it looking for it. just wanted to let you that, incase you didn't already know.

It should be illegal for anyone to profit by creating toxic chemicals.

It's all going away folks... scares me to think what this place might look like in 20,30,50 or 100 years.

We could have it all... if we quit trying to own it.

We should be doing the responsible thing... and begin moving in a greener direction immediately.

We could be a shining example or responsible industry coexisting with a healthy environment.

There is no future going otherwise.
