Below is pieces of an email from the President of Seabrook Surge Fastpitch Softball Organization. If you would like to see a change in the LPGSA, please read and spread the word.

...I'd like to first thank you up front for taking a few moments to read this email thoroughly and for giving me the opportunity to share with you our desire and vision to rebuild the LaPorte Girls Softball Association to what it once was not too many years ago when it was one of the premier softball organizations in the Greater Houston Area. In order to accomplish that goal, we need your help and support.

Let me first tell you a little about our organization. We started the Seabrook Surge as a single, independent Class A team playing at the 12U level in December of 2008. We currently have four teams competing at the the 8U, 12U, 14U, and 18U levels of play. We now want to take what we've learned and what we're successful at doing and build the LaPorte Girls Softball Organization back up in the same manner we've been able to create the Surge organization.
How do we plan to do that?
* First we have to earn your trust and confidence and return integrity to the LaPorte Softball Organization. Our first order of business will be to call for an audit of the current LPGSA books by an independent accounting firm and to make those results know to everyone so that everyone knows where we currently are as an organization and where we are starting from. Once that is done we will work to insure that there is complete transparency with regards to finances moving forward. As a LPGSA parent who pays into this organization, you have a right to know where that money is being spent and to be assured that it is being spent properly.
* We will immediately begin working to make much needed improvements/repairs to the fields.
* We will immediately begin working to improve communication to league parents and will find new ways to get people involved. We will also bring to the organization new ways to help fund the costs associated with playing softball and will commit to keeping fees to a minimum.
* We will work to institute and host regular clinics and skills camps to not only improve players' skills, but to also help bridge gaps in a player's development and to help instill a love and passion for the game.
* We will work diligently to insure that those intrusted to coach and mentor your daughters are coached and trained themselves to do so in a positive manner that focuses on improving individual skills and rewards personal improvement and achievement.
* Finally, we pledge to listen to YOU!!! What is more important than knowing how much you and more importantly your daughter enjoys playing in the LaPorte Girls Softball Organization? If we don't meet the needs or expectations of you or your daughter, then we're not doing our jobs. Communication is a two-way street. We want to hear from you how we can make things better!

If you have any questions or comments of myself, the Surge organization, or simply have ideas to make the LPGSA better, PLEASE feel free to contact me any time. Together we can make the LaPorte Girls Softball Association great once again. Thank you so much for your time and support!

My daughter plays softball in La porte right now and I have not be happy with things for the past couple of seasons. The fields are in horrible shape what can we as parents do to help and support the changes ya'll are wanting to do.

I don't know anything about the Surge, but I do know there needs to be changes to LPGSA. This year was horrible. All the current board cares about are the select teams their daughters play for. They don't want any more league teams using the fields and cutting into their practice time. Opening ceremonies were canceled and never rescheduled. There is zero communication. There are more La Porte girls playing in Deer Park than La Porte due to the horrible management of the league by the current board. My daughter was planning on not going to closing ceremonies this Saturday, but I will be there now to vote against anyone on the current board. I would also encourage anyone who has a daughter playing in La Porte to do the same. Help pass the word to friends to go Saturday and vote against current board members.

My only concern with bringing in all of these new people from Seabrook is that they are all select ball players’ parents. Don’t get me wrong a change is needed in this league, but I just am not sure it is wise to bring in these types of people to try and improve our league. What if they start doing like Deer Park and making it more about their select ball players than league players. I understand that you can’t make everyone happy but this is something to think about.

LPGSA Dad-I totally understand your concerns. But let me assure you, Surge talked in depth about this committment. Our President told us that our first priority is to the league. I can honestly say that the Surge parents are 100% devoted to the girls and will base their actions on that fact. There are some great leaders on the current LPGSA board, but they can't do it alone. Out of 26 positions, only a handful are filled. Some of them are doing double and triple duty. They need help, and that's what we want to offer. There will be two voting dates, with one being during closing ceremonies. The other is yet to be determined. But I will post it as soon as I find out.

Surge also has use of two other facilites to practice if needed not only for their current teams but possibly for the other select teams out of La Porte during the busy season period with league playing. We have been with Surge for sometime now and can say I NEVER HAVE SEEN ANY DRAMA OR PROBLEMS AMONG PARENTS. We call ourselves a family and that is the way we plan to keep it as our core objectives, taking care of all that have a need and doing with integrity with what is just for all.. NO POLITICS. This is why we have been able to be so succesful in such a short period of time.We are here to make a change for the better and we promise we won't let you down.

First off, all the mess is what DROVE my family out of LPGSA and into Surge. LPGSA likes to tell parents "if they do not like how things are being done, then join the board" except when you get on the board and you start seeing bylaws being broken and financial reports that dont add up and you question these things your emails notifying board members of time and loactions of board meetings stop! then after you are a no show (because you had no idea about the meeting) they vote you off because of lack of attendence! If you notice, its the SAME poeple on the board year after year after year...thats because the elections are not ran fairly! Surge asked for an outside party to be asked to come in and run the election but LPGSA refused! They say it is against bylaws. It clearly states in the bylaws that an election committee may be elected to conduct the election. But LPGSA says that this committee must have been elected prior to the season...it doesnt not state this in the bylaws! If the current board members truely want to bring LPGSA back to where it should be then they would want to do WHATEVER it takes! so why not bring in an outside party? because they wouldnt have complete control over the election and therefore may lose out on their current positions. This was an issue at last years election so if they say the election committee had to be chosen at the beginning of the season then why wasnt one established?

LPGSA Parent, you are right about LPGSA wanting the select teams there BUT the funny thing is...last season there was a select team playing out at LPGSA that as of the end of the season at election time had not paid their dues to play within LPGSA but were still allowed to play...they were also allowed to turn in an illegal roster to the commissioner. The commissioner knew of these issues but nothing was done.

I have seen the way the Surge organization is ran and it is amazing how smooth and fair things are ran. It is truely a FAMILY organization and is only about these girls. Surge is only trying to keep LPGSA alive so that so many families do not have to travel outside of their home city to play ball.

The current LPGSA board has ran it into the ground...what other option is there but to have faith that Surge can pick it up and bring it back...LPGSA cant possibly get much lower than it already is...right?

Just got word that some people are under the impression that Surge is trying to come in and "take over" LPGSA. That is NOT the intentions of Surge! The majority of Surge players are girls who have been ran out of LPGSA because of the mess some have created. Surge is merely trying to bring their girls home to play with LPGSA! BUT are also bringing along some very good people who want to see the league grow back into what it once was. The current Surge teams will no longer be "seabrook" Surge but an A ball team, paying dues to be a part of LPGSA.

Whos talking about the boys? We aren't referring the fields but to the current LPGSA who is running the league into the ground. At this rate, within two years max, the girls in LP will not have a place to play softball!

the fields are taken care of by the field directors on the board, which is one or two people. They don't let anyone else have access to the equipment if that answers your question. La Porte boys has way more parents and players then the softball does and it would be a good idea to have one person from each team or a couple to work on fields but they never change anything out there.

Yes, there are field directors on the board but the issue is with the same few board members who are there causing so much drama and running everyone out of LP that the board holds MAYBE 8 people and they can not keep up with everything. That's why we are trying to get a new board established with people who care and will keep the fields up.

We will be handing out flyers with the name of the Surge parents who are running and want to make a big, better difference and ask all the parents to vote the same. We are waiting to hear from the current LPGSA board as to when the voting will take place. Please make sure that you sign the ledger and there is one ballot per registered player with a max of two ballots per family. Spread the word!:)

I think it funny that people that have abandoned this board because they could not get their way now are fighting to get back on. One was a field director that only did the fields when HIS team was playing. He never helped with a tournament. He was also a HOT head on the fields and displayed foul language towards umpires and others in front of 5 and 6yr. old girls. I made a formal complaint concerning the event that I witnessed. His wife was on the board and all she did was use and abuse the system. Board positions should NOT be used as status. Another lady was on the board and when she was voted off she claimed the person running against her was cheating...put on your big girl panties nobody thought you would do a good job then and whats going to happen when you still lose are you going to claim Cheating again? Remember when you do the story of the boy who cried wolf. As far as the fields go more than just field directors have access to the equimpment. Yes the fields need work but there are far more worse fields out there. There are people on the board that I completely trust that they have a heart for these girls and do what is best for everyone not just their team or their daughters(some dont even have daughters out there and still bust their butts for these girls what is their hidden agenda). So to these people that want to come in and bring in 10 more a-ball teams where does this leave room for our league girls and to thoes that want change but are unwilling to do nothing more than put a vote in a box and will still complain. get active ask how you can help. Here is the thing Change is great when change comes from the heart and not from a selfish place. Has anyone asked why Surge was doing this and they will say because their girls are from LP but they will not tell you they tried to take over Bay Area and was unabe to beat them out. SO ask yourself why should LPGSA trust what they say when they have tried and tried to take over other places if their girls are from here. sounds sneaky to me. I know that I will never bring my daughter back if LPGSA becomes the property of surge!!!! They also claim that Sea Brook gave them land and they have more to creat their own park and have so many other fields to practice on why do they need ours. So Rock the Vote but know the facts not all the Current board members are as evil as Surge wants you to think.

That is too funny that you are gonna start calling people out. Im sure all of us that have been apart of the league has some stories to tell about a couple of the board members of la porte. I know I have several about the so called board members that don't have any girls playing. But the point of all of this is as of right now your numbers can not lie. The girls as well as parents do not want to play out there, this is more then one or two parents that you say are hot heads or have their own agenda. There are a couple of really good people on the la porte board right now and with the surge people we can help each other to help better the parks for the girls and everything else needs to be put aside. We should be there for the girls and a-ball as well as league.

So to these people that want to come in and bring in 10 more a-ball teams where does this leave room for our league girls..

I love this comment right here. Right now the league has one team for each age group. Everyone is leaving so tell me how surge coming in is going to affect the league. This is more about ya'll feeling threatened then it is about the girls. If not the questions you would be asking is what can we do together to bring softball back to La Porte.

CANT WE JUST ALL GET ALONG....LOL
We all have concerns and we all say we want what’s best for these girls. The true test will be after the election, when the new board gets together to move on and try and make the next season better for these girls. The ADULTS that are voted in need to act like ADULTS and get along and try and improve this league for the girls not just for their daughter or themselves but the whole league. I pray that this can happen for these girls they all deserve it.

Looking from the outside in...
Sounds like a "family" organization is trying to do the best for a league that has fallen. IF there are good original members on the LP board it seems that they could merge with these new members and make LP an awesome place to play softball again. Please do your best to work together to make it happen (on both sides).
