Morris is mayor of La Porte and if the intermodal will benefit our town and area, he doesn't answer to anyone but the people who elected him. I realize that some people want to keep things just as they are, but unfortunately if you don't develop some new industries and employment, in the long run you only have less and less - less jobs, less money, less economic growth. You can't live in a vacuum.
Maybe you can see the benefit of an industrial area for your town but it will destroy ours.. keep your business in your own back yard and stay out of ours.

Are you kidding me? This could be one of the greatest things ever to happen in the county. As for "productive farmland," how many acres is the government paying you not to farm. There's a reason the rest of the country laughs at Indiana, this is it. Indiana is my home and I love it, but get with it. The time to produce some jobs, real jobs, decent paying jobs, instead of 8 per hour Wal-Mart jobs. This is a no brainer.
The government doesn't pay me a dime NOT to farm my land, nor do they pay me to farm it. I choose to farm my land with the crop of my choice. AND remember that this is a "right to work" state, not a right to earn a decent wage state. When will you northerners figure out that we love this little town and our lifestyle and will not fall for the hype about a handful of jobs that really won't pay a decent wage? I guess it's ok as long as it's not in YOUR back yard.. I bet you'd change your story then.

Build the damn things in Porter County! Better yet, Gary! Air and water pollution, devalued property, warehouse blight from LaPorte to Westville, JOBS THAT WILL PAY ABOUT THE SAME AS WALMART BECAUSE THE CHINESE CRAP BROUGHT INTO THE INTERMODALS WILL GO INTO WALMART WAREHOUSING THESE ARE LOW TECH/LOW PAYING JOBS. THE SITING CRITERIA FOR CENTER POINT INTERMODAL INCLUDED: "WILLINGNESS OF THE LOCAL WORKFORCE TO WORK FOR LOWER PAY". Thousands of trucks on two lane roads, cutting the county into three emergency response section, forcing emissions checks on vehicles due to diesel soot and carbon monoxide, affecting wells within the county due to the fragile glacial hydrology (512 Dump), Make LaPorte county look like Hammond/Whiting and we have lost everything. No high tech jobs, no tourism, few people with educations higher than the 11th grade. There is a shortage of skilled workers in laPorte county and an abundance of minimum wage boobs. Great, build intermodals, ruin the way the county looks, smells, etc and eliminate any future hope of bringing clean, high tech, good paying jobs here... forever. The rich clean up and the dumb LaPorteans get their intermodals to go with Deercroft, Ingeniro Toxic Incinerator and maybe a nice big Chicago sewage treatment plant... JOBS! LaPorte county is the last county west of Elkhart that is clean and has not been paved over. That's why a lot of us live here and have lived here for generations. You want to live in a dump, move to Gary or Merrillville, etc...
Thank you!! Couldn't have said it better myself.

We could be setting on the edge of the next building boom,First the rails show up then newer and bigger city's.But we need to save the farm land to feed the people. If there were more unloading cranes to unload the trains direct to trucks less land would be needed for train rails and shipping boxes.Would also cut down on double handeling and cut expences.
