La Mirada needs more family places to eat. La Habra has Applebee's Carrows, Chili's, Red Robin, Home Town buffet and more. We have the Carrige House ( it's going down hill fast. What a dump),we do have a Red Robin but not near shopping. I like IHOP small and friendly environment. Sizzler is OK, but we need a good coffee shop and some family restaurants.
I want to spend my money in La Mirada.

I was at the carraige and I asked the owner why it looked so runned down. He siad that the deal with Home depot was just about finalalized (it fell through now), so they were waiting to get the new place open in the new shopping center.
They were going to move the carraige where the car wash is now. That is why they have not put any money into it.
But now that the deal fell through, they are looking into a remodel and start putting money back into it. I think it is great that the carraige is still around. It is a family owned business, not a franchise.

how's the food? On another thread there was some really NASTY coments about the food, service and just the overall state of the restaurant. I have never been there, honestly the other thread scared me.

Unfortunately the current business environment in LM, as encouraged and dictated by our City Council does not promote business.

Lucky for us La Habra, Norwalk, Brea and Whittier understand that people need to actually purchase goods and services.

Sure wish that I could spend my money here in LM…. But alas, our City Council would rather my money go to supporting other cities…

Some say that our City Council is still to this day gun shy about shopping centers, retail and restaurants because of the La Mirada Mall (beach was the main street till the 57 was put in, then the La Mirada mall just died off).
I go outside this city to make my money, as most residents do. But it just kills me that I am not able to keep my money here in my community.
Here is some food for thought...
Start on Imperial Hwy where it starts (or ends based on you point of view) down by LAX. Take it all the way to the end at the 91. It is almost all businesses... except for LM. Here is a Major street, busy with great traffic flow, and what has LM done with it. residential... What a waste. But it does make for a convenient drive to the Westridge center.
I believe our City Council is:
Out of touch...
Sheltered...
Apathetic...
And just generally more interested in maintaining the status-quo rather then stepping up and doing what they were put there to do..
Guide the community for everyone best interests:
Make sure the tools and resources are provided for public safety..
Provide an environment where one takes pride in their community…
Encourage a strong local economy...
One out of three is just not good enough. How can one take pride in their community when all you do there is Live. I want to be able to spend my money here, I want to know that when I go to a small business and make purchases:
I am helping to make my community better
Helping to keep my money here in LM
Helping ensure that my neighbors are prosperous.
Keeping all of our property values up.
Knowing that my money is going to the local business who is donating money for
Grad Night…
The local meals on wheels…
Volunteering for career day at the high school…
Is a member of Kiwanis and is donating time to children’s causes
Is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and mentoring High school students….
Sponsors the Local Little League / Soccer team / Football team… etc…
Lending or donating there business resources to church functions and fund-raisers...
The ways that our Small businesses give back goes on and on…
I want to support the businesses that make the community better myself and my children.
And yet our City Council, based on their actions and attitudes seem to feel that we should be forced to support business out side of La Mirada

Active in LM, are you still posting this rhetoric? Just come out already and announce your candidacy, but please come up with some new ideas. I'm sorry your business got relocated, but you have to let the anger go.

Get going,

Active in LM is not or was not an Alondra business owner. Speaking of which isn't that piece of property looking so much better! It will probably stay that way another 15 years like the Michael's Center.

As a business owner in La Mirada I made the wrong choice by picking this city as a place to do business.

I am sorry that in order to survive I will have to relocate my business, but hey I can always come back and swim in the 45 million dollar pool, just better buy my lunch on the way over.

Active in LM,

If you do plan on making a run for City Council, make it known here plenty would vote for you.

You seem to have good ideas.

We need a City shakeup, that seems to be the only way to get any change around here.

Yes I am a business owner in LM....
A business owner from the Alondra Center...? Nope..

Crossroads...? Nope..

I do know several business owners from both centers.

You would not believe some of the crap that business in LM have to deal with.

I understand that the city has their rules and ordnances... but quite often interaction with the city is just more difficult then it needs to be.

It never ceases to amaze me how just about every decision seems to need to be made by Andrea herself.

I too feel that it was a mistake to re-locate my business to the city of LM

Run for council... just not interested... My energy is better spent running my business.

Why are so many unhappy with the current LM governing body?

Go see the council in action... you WILL be disappointed.

We really do need to shake things up... and I do believe that we may actually be seeing the beginnings of that happening.

Over the past year or so, no matter the venue, or COMMUNITY GROUP I am interacting with...

I am seeing a growing discontent with our city council and city manager.

This is where I focus my energy.

There are persons, that have the experience, values, and intelligence to successfully inspire the electorate.

Alas, I am not myself one of them.

Who said I meant the Alondra Center? Also you may want to stop by the pool, there is a ton of people who really enjoy it! I hope you do relocate because your type of negativity is not needed in our community.

Since La Habra already has the main chain of rest., why would LM want to build an Applebees or Red Robin here? Better yet why haven't they? I'd love to see a good authentic inexpensive Mexican Rest. or a fresh bread bakery. How bout a good sandwich shop. Nothing overpriced, just good food. We travel to Busy Bee sandwich in San Pedro. Ciros in East LA for the Best Mexican food, JB's in Gardena for the ribs. Funny, all the ones I just mentioned are the hole in the wall, mom and pop runned for many years now!

My point was that these mom n pop rest. are better anyway. I ate at Red Robin once this year because my son received a cert. to eat for free from his school. It costs way too much and the food wasn't that good.
