I never ran the snack shack. My husband did until a few weeks ago. I did help him some...but running it was way too big of a job for me!:)

LMLL Mom...thank you and your husband for the work you did. I haven't had a kid in Little League in over 5 years...but thanks. It's people like you who volunteer your time that keep the kids in our community in a positive outlet. One thing that Dwight did every year that I used to criticize him for...this is interesting...there was always one or two kids he knew of that wanted to play but their parents didn't care enough to get them signed up. I'm not talking the financially challenged people...they always figure out a way if they care...I'm talking dirtbag parents who shouldn't be parents at all and just don't give a damn about what their kids want. Dwight would go to their homes with paperwork in hand and get it done...then talk to coaches at the drafts so they knew the kid would need rides and such. Never were these "hot-shot" players...just kids in a bad situation. I criticized him for it because "we have 1000 other kids to worry about, why are you going out of your way for these parents who don't give a shit and are typically dirtbags anyway?" He said it very simply "These are the kids that we are here for. The all-stars will always have a place to play, be it LMLL, LMBA, travel-ball, whatever...they will play this game. The kids in the bad situations have no other options except getting into trouble. If we can keep one kid from painting on a wall or committing a crime by keeping him busy playing baseball, then it's worth it" This is also a true story, not a hallmark card. Dwight was not a perfect person...he had his faults..we all do....but how many people out there in youth programs today think this way? I am embarrased to say that I did not think this way.... but Dwight straightened me out. Our community owes him more than we realize. So...with the EXCEPTION of people who STEAL money from kids or who are predators...and they are out there....we all know that (hopefully not in La Mirada today). I thank everyone who is involved and trying to make it as good as possible and keeping these kids in a positive outlet.

Can everybody please just get along!!!! Every league has its problems... You really think it is that much better anywhere else??? Sure some things can be fixed or improved, but it will always be that way.
I believe most of the comments about rules, players, managers and board members are a bunch of sour grapes. You think your kid is better than he is or you think you can do a better job on the board or I can coach that team better than him..... Every year the league has to look for coaches or ask people to volunteer for the board and most of the kids playing are not All Star, That is the plain TRUTH!!!!
Stop telling us all the problems, because we know what is wrong with the league, Give us solutions and step up to the plate and help out.
One more thing... LMBA always thinks they are better than LMLL. I am not sure why???? Last years Major All Star Team was one of the best in California!!! I am not saying LMBA does not have good players, but from my experience they are not as talented from top to bottom. I know for a fact that in years past we have played LMBA teams and beat them soundly.... Who are the BEST 12/13 year old Players now??? Most of them are probably LMLL players.... I am fired up!!!! We should have an Annual Rivalry game between LMLL and LMBA!!! Someone get it started!!!

Wow, I get a call this morning that I finally made the Topix forum. And I thought I would get on for blowing out the Angels last year. It has been a interesting read. Some true some not true. I would disagree that the league was ran into the ground.
It was just a little out dated financially. But I can back up some facts with minutes from board meetings.
In oct of 2011 the board was told we owed the city I believe the figure was $14,500. We voted to pay 5k then with another 5k after sign ups in 2012 and the remainder at the end of the year. So the poster that said we didnt owe that much you are dead wrong. I have proof, do you? It was not just for lights it was for usage, lights, winterball everything combined. I dont know who else has left the board but I resigned because I thought to many board members were incompetant. That was my opinion and I am entitled to it. I have no idea who was voted off or forced out. Sounds like another half truth. Lastly. Little league rule book states that no board member, relative or anyone that is a member of the league cannot be paid in any way.
The board or the district does not have the authority to pay a president. If I remember correctly our snack bar manager threw a fit when he found out all stars were being paid for working the fireworks booth, but he had no problem paying Dwight? I dont get that logic.
Dwight truly was one of the good guys, very nice and did his best. But in my opinion the league was not run very well. That is why the district has been there so much to try and clean it up.
Have fun and just play baseball. We voted these members on the board, let them do the job they were elected to do. If you dont like it there is always pony or move and join another league.

19 Gentile...well, I have no argument for you on the city...if that's the case, so be it, you were there. You should be happy that the league was able to utilize the cash for as long as it did. Good Accounts Payable management. But I am sorry to hear that you had to clean up that mess from the past if that was the case. Little League rule book states that no Board Member can get paid...that's true. but expense reimbursement is allowable and that's what Dwight got. If the record keeping on it got lax, then that's the problem. don't try to tell me expense reimbursement isn't allowed...it is. Your opinion that the league wasn't run well is in fact yours. District 29 people must have changed a lot...because there was certainly no one capable of helping anybody 5 years ago. You go on about how you blew out the Angels last year?? What's that mean? You taking your opportunity to brag? And do yourself a favor now...don't start comparing notes on who's kids are headed for the pros and how much better the teams are. I come from the Jr. World Series champion era...and not sitting in the bleachers either. You only think the league was run poorly because you weren't personally involved then. If your time frame is in the last 5 years..then you know more than I and you have my apologies. If you have comments on 2007 and before...i have my own board minutes and I would love to compare notes. It was easily the best run youth league in the area. Especially financially.

Former,
I have no idea to anything prior to 2009 and could care less what happened. And no, I was not bragging, I just figured since half truth letters went out after the game last year that it would wind up here also. I agree on expense reimbursment, but I work and so does my wife and we dont spend 400 per month on gas let alone 600. It was classified as a stipend because he was on a fixed income, not a reimbursement. Either way that is past, I just hope it is ran better in the future.

Gentile19.....peace. We are of the same opinion at what counts. Frankly I should care less about what is going on now...but Dwight was my friend and I will defend his memory. Many people just don't know the extent of what he did. Plus...even though I don't have kids in the league anymore, I left after a long run of what I thought was something great and I want it to continue for your kids and the next generations. Hopefully it will come around. I am dissapointed to hear that the expense reimbursement turned into a "stipend" that was never the intent and the money amount was always purely reimbursement. So understand my point of view, all-be-it limited. It's too bad about your half truth letters. I had more than 1 complaint when I Managed as well. People only like winners when they are a part of it....if not...they will complain about anything they can grasp on to. Being on the Board never helped my teams win one game. Good players did the winning. Again...the complaining will take on a whole new face when High School Baseball comes around. It is an entirely different experience...and what seemed important in Little League, no longer matters. And..you're right...doesn't matter who's involved, only matters that the kids have a positive outlet.

Absolutely well said. I have never thought anyone joins the board to do the wrong thing, we just have different opinions.

Who ever you are you don't know what the hell your talking about!!!! There are no more old timers on the LMLL Board anymore and those so called old timers built that league with a lot of love for the kids with no interest to themselves. They had compassion regarding children who could play rich or poor they provided hardship memberships for those who could not afford to play otherwise. Your board serves its self and your children. Nothing you have done since Dwight's death have made a made improvements! All you selfish s.o.b. have succeeded in doing is bring a strong league to its knees, you plan special events when you don't pay your bills. I'm so, so sick hearing the same old bull shit about old timers and getting rid of them and the so called Dwight lovers. Have some damn respect for the man who did everything from his heart and truly loved your children. None of you except 3 have any experience and you let District run and dictate your rules. The rules that were voted in by those so called old timers were to benefit the kids not the parents or board members. You will fall and I mean fall flat on your faces. Parents are getting sick and tired of your bull shit. General Membership members vote these s.o.b. out. Wake up your beautiful league is dying. I thought it would take about 2 or three years but one year. Arron rules the league by the skirt of his power crazed wife. Grow some Arron. The kids need a President who will stand up and do the right thing.

It is harder to hit in Little league as the mound is only 46 feet away and the bats are 2.250 diameter

@19 Gentile,
Excuse me I dont believe I have far worse language on your fields. About running for the board been there and done that. But I'm so sick of whats going on its discusting. You guys have bad mouth Dwight bullied experienced Board members to leave and you say its just a game. The tactics they use is dirty, dirty politics. You all talk about each other behind each others backs. You use your status to benefit yourself and the worst thing was Dwight and many of the old board members thought every child should have the chance to play not just the prevledged but you take away the hardship membership away from the kids that really need it. How sad is that. Yes it is just a game! A game for the children not for the adults. Shame on all of you.

This is great rhetoric. Truly some strong opinions. I drove by Behringer last night on my way home and what I saw is what I see every night their playing on the Major Field. Couple of runners on bases, everyone in position. A very determined looking batter, a very determined looking pitcher. Once in a while I get lucky and while I'm at the stop sign a kid drives the ball into the outfield or a nice defensive play is made. Funny...they all look like they are enjoying the game....so what the hell people?

For LMBA....I want you to know that I'm a tried and true LL guy...but my kids enjoyed LL, LMBA, and Travel Ball before high school. They played 1 or all at any given year...I gave my time to LL because I liked the people and I could only help one. But be clear on this...I agree that 11-12 year olds should probably play on a bigger field and lead off...below that, however, it's just stupid. A kids gets walked and two pitches later he's on 3rd...stupid. LMBA does not produce better players...if a kid is a good player, it takes him about 1 inning to figure out lead-off, pick-offs, etc. PLUS...Juniors play on a regulation Diamond, with full high school rules and when they head to High school the next year they are fully prepped. Pony league plays on 80' bases and 55' mound...not regulation. Also...count the number of La Mirada High school kids that came from LMLL and compare it to LMBA...it's always80-90% LMLL. Don't start with some politics bullshit statement...the high school coaches have no idea where the kids come from and don't give a shit. If they have the skills, they make the team.

Simple, the answer for you is Pony. Not far, very convenient and maybe you will be happy there, who knows. Maybe since hardships are so important to you they can start them there. LL still has hardships, but you actually are suppose to do something for a hardship, not just sign up your kid. Who got bullied? I know I resigned and never felt bullied I left of my own free will and so did everyone else that left.

As Dwight was such a good friend to me and my family-I took being called a "Dwight lover" as a huge compliment.
