My idea of change would be for the school board members to LEAVE. They are all blood suckers that have zero interest in making our children more educated. They are only interested in their fat cat salaries. Between them and the unions our kids are barely qualified to chew gum.

It is time for chang in the past several years we have had nothing but false promises we have schools closed and now our childeren have no libraries in their schools and they expect 9 out of 10 a reading level lets be serious how many of our kids can affor to go to barnes and nobles and by books or their parent work long hours and cant go to public libraries and how many homes cant afford computers in their homes we need to think about our kids education not putting money in our pockets it's TIME FOR CHANGE!

Why does everybody question that the school board is making these "fat cat salaries"? Do you know how LITTLE they actually make? For those that don't know...from my understanding, they all have regular jobs. From my perspective, the School Board is about people that really care about our schools - not people trying to make a living off of it. Is that not right?

The School Board member stipend (Salary) is relative to the enrollment right (I think ) they get a salary of about $450 a month. Board meetings, including closed session last about 4 hours. two meetings a month 8 -10 hours ok lets say $45 an hour. Don't forget they goto schools, meet parents and then NOBODY talks about the good things our schools are doing.Well there it is.

Well according to the article, Margarita Rios stood out and emphasized the need for change. So, if you want change, vote for Rios.

I say Urquidi, Adams and Pflanzer. I'm new to the area, but from my research and feedback from others - Rios is all about Norwalk and seems a bit uptight/angry, Hengler seems too old and I haven't heard much about Valencia.

Seems like our neighborhood supports Urquidi, Adams and Plfanzer!

Adams said too much can be made of the district having Program Improvement status.

"We have to realize that half the districts around us are Program Improvement districts," he said.
so basically what he is saying is "that since others are failing it is okay for us to fail:"
is this really the attitude that is being taught to my children?

La Mirada Mom - I think he was talking in regards to a lot of parents comparing us to sister school districts and sending their kids there.

And do you really know why we are considered Program Improvement? I heard mentioned that it was coming from the Special Needs aspect or something like that.

I thik our whole state is on Program Improvement to be honest - thanks Arnold!

Yes we care about the State, but we have to concern ourselves with whats going on in our own city. Arnold? I don't think so, look closer.

My son is in 9th grade in Norwalk. My sister's son is in 9th grade at Milliken in Long Beach. At Milliken they can lookup their student record ANYTIME on line. It includes GPA, Progress Reports, Homework, Citizenship, and teacher comments. EVERYTHING is there Alex (her son) can't make excuses. He was ineleible for Thursday's Freshmen game (He will not be Trick or Treating - unless his mom sees the homework he must make up)

Look at what they have:
http://www.lbmillikan.schoolloop.com/

I have to make an appointment with his counselor to get this information - what is so secret in Norwalk? With this information - You Bet There Will be Some CHANGE in MY son's attitude.

I hope this new Norwalk school board UPDATES their DATA services - or do the football coaches have so much pull that GPA reports and Opportunity Room Suspension are not promptly reported for eligibility?

I was impressed by Margarita Rios statements made at the public forum held at the district board room. She was the only candidate that stated several times, that she would hold herself accountable first. That has been a problem with our current school board members. They do not hold themselves accountable at all. Furthermore, I believe that if Margarita Rios is elected, she will not use her school board position as an opportunity for future political goals. Unfortunately, I have observe this issue with some of the other candidates. Remember there are 4 votes to cast. Please give provide an opportunity for Margarita Rios to work with all of us to help our children succeed.

A community means more then one neighborhood. Look around please and you will see that others differ from your opinion.

You are so right. I am glad to see I am not the only one who has noticed these issued with the current school board. Adams- yes too many problems with his personal life, he should focus on his issues. Ed- need to retire. Valencia-her heart isn't in it. Her focus is elsewhere, not on the students or the district.

We need people on the board who are there for our kids not for our city politicians. Rios is being backed by Jesse Luera and Urquidi is being backed by Marcel Rodarte & Rick Rameriz. Go Figure don't think these people belong on the board making decisions on behalf of my child
