Has anyone heard what happened at her court date? She is going around telling everyone that she didn't do anything wrong and it was all a misunderstanding. However they have her on tape at the bank with her daughter cashing the check.

Look at the PTA leadership. They do not hold anyone accountable at the school sites PTA. Money is always missing and the same people are always in charge. If you challenge them they will fight back viciously and why not, they access to so much money.

Her friend is probably in on it as well. I know a few people involved with her and they have said her and a group of women are always first to step up for posistions like this so they could get their hands in the loot.

Believe me the money that is missing/stolen is in the thousands from PTA and always at a convienent time. For example, they will leave large sums of money over the weekend because they could not make a deposit on time. Come Monday morning it had been stolen. To further the problem there are alot of school employees who are PTA members for years and have access to master keys. I do not support PTA and its corruption and discrimination against minority groups. Remember, this PTA President probably got the confidence to steal from her neighbor by first stealing from PTA? Which is not to hard todo.

I am amazed to see this blog. I am a PTA member and cannot believe the things being said about PTA members. It takes alot of hard to do what we do. Many hours go into our schools and we gain nothing from it. If there are people that gain, then their time will come. Please do not let one persons poor judgement cloud all of the hard work the other PTA members do! Alot of friends are surprised, but in the end, what is true will come out!

I am sorry you feel this way. Maybe you should step up and trying getting involved. Maybe you can make a change. So many people have advise but sit back and do nothing, so maybe it is time for you to step up.

I have tried on behalf of parents and students. I was hopeful when the district PTA leadership got involved but soon realized they did not care. If the PTA leadership is the way it is, what can you do. I no longer invest my time and money and I am not the only one. Again where is the accountability especially when money is raised on the backs of our children and families. Red flags should be raised when the same people are running PTA at one school site and at other school sites as well. I leave you with this: TAKE A STAND PTA LEADERSHIP/COUNCIL AND GOOD LUCK!

I am just wondering why you are PTA for La Mirada but live in Cypress? Both High Schools I have delt with have the mojority of children "out of school district" This is a real problem for parents who live accross the street from the High School they should attend but can't attend because of all the inter-district transfers. Sorry about getting off topic but this bugs me.

Anytime there are large amounts of money being raised i.e PTA and sports teams at local parks, there will be temptation. It is human nature that is why we need to hold strict accountablity to others and ourselves. Another area of concern is identity theft and too much information that employees of store merchants have access too. Credit card businesses should not be sending checks to households so freely through the mail. It is a crazy world we live!

I considered her a friend but always wanting to believe in the truth while trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. Yet with so much coming out over the past week and half I've found it more of an eye opening experience than ever before. PTA has taught me that I cant always trust people even if I'd like to. We never really know the people we are allowing ourselves to get involved with. The people we would like to trust with our most precious children are'nt really safe. We cant leave our children with people we think are our frinds because in reality we dont know them. We have to protect our children. Had I known that all of this was going on I'd never have allowed my child to remain in the presence of this person. The people I really do feel sorry for is her family. Sadly enough if she is found guilty than in the courts eyes and most importantly in GOD'S eyes than she is guilty. If she's not found guilty than again either way justice has been served. I can't judge her she is resposible for herself and ehr family. If she did it than only she knows the truth and her and her family have to live with that fact unfortunately. PTA has done alot of good for our children at La Pluma and have done so freely out of the goodness of their own hearts. In conclusion think twice before you leave your kids with anyone dont allow yourself to be to trustworthy and just to temember to have faith and belief in GOD to take care of your family and yourself
If possible can you please inform us about what new information has come out in the last week and a half. Of course do not use names.

Court date set for PTA head
Police report 21 alleged victims
By Ruby Gonzales Staff Writer

LA MIRADA - A local PTA president accused of identity theft and stealing a $4,650 check from a neighbor returns to court in two weeks.

Kelly Mahaffey, 43, of La Mirada is scheduled for a July 6 hearing in Norwalk Superior Court.

The neighbor isn't the only alleged victim.

Sheriff's Lt. Bob Esson said there are 21 alleged victims. Citing the ongoing investigation, he wouldn't say how access was gained to the information and to the alleged victims.

Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office, said she didn't know the motive behind the alleged thefts.

Mahaffey was arrested May 17 after deputies reportedly served a search warrant at her home and found checks, methamphetamine and other items linked to the case. She was released from custody on bail.

La Pluma Elementary is part of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. School officials said Mahaffey's term as PTA president ends this month.

She and her lawyer, John McDonald, didn't return calls Wednesday.

Mahaffey has pleaded not guilty to grand theft, possession of methamphetamine, multiple counts of identification theft, theft of access card information, grand theft of lost property, burglary and forgery.
The case started May 1 when the neighbor reported to deputies that her mail was stolen.

According to the criminal complaint, Mahaffey allegedly took a check and personal property belonging to the neighbor on March 13.

Esson said Mahaffey made the check out to herself and deposited it in her bank account.

She also allegedly took the personal identifying information of 10 or more people, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors allege that around Dec. 15, 2006, Mahaffey got account information on someone else's access card and intended to use it fraudulently.

Mahaffey is also accused of stealing the neighbor's lost property around May 11.

She has been heard around telling people that she is innocent and that she was set up. I would bet if anyone was in on this with her she will give them up. I could only hope they all get caught. If they have her on tape cashing the check how could she deny it? On top of all this the drugs and the affairs. Concerned was right you can't even trust people you think you know. I know a whole bunch of people who's kids hang out with her kids and she take them all places with her and her husband and boyfriend. And the parents didn't know. Who knows what they are doing when it comes to the drugs. Parents you should always know where and who your kids are with.
