Why would the Superintendent get a pay raise only after two years of work when "they" are crying about money. She should reject the pay increase! What do you think?

Hello. I am the Superintendent of NLMUSD. I agree with your comment. I assure you that I have not and will not receive a raise of any kind. These are indeed very difficult and challenging financial times. It would be very insensitive for me to accept a raise when employees, especially teachers who serve our students each day, are losing their jobs.

I appreciate that Dr. Perez and Wayne Shannon are not taking their raises, but Dr. Maureen Saul is accepting hers. There are other district employees who ARE getting and accepting raises, aren't there?

Hi! I'm a teacher in the NLMUSD. It is true that at least 3 administrators have received pay raises during "these very difficult times". But that's not the biggest problem. Our new super. has no respect for the classroom teacher. Her attitude has been "do as directed, don't complain, & be happy you have a job!" Maybe she has declined a raise for herself because she is already making more than the president of the United States of America. Rumors have spread that her salary is somewhere in the $250,000 range. So why would the school board and the super. support raises at this point? Well, according to the minutes of the school board meeting in February, it was to make the salary of these 3 positions equitable to the other 5 administrators that share similar job duties. So now we have at least 8 district administrators making upwards of $140,000! Great idea folks. So upsetting considering the idea that I don't enough money in my school's budget to buy more pencils for my students! The NLMUSD is beginning to sound a lot like the city of Bell.:(

Once again I ask..why don't you take your concerns, and they are real concerns to the board meeting with your colleagues who might feel the same..instead of on this site...this does nothing...there are so many problems in a La Mirada School and absolutely nothing is being done by the district....
Please, share your feelings where it counts..not here..

SHUT UP you complainer... If its so damn important, go buy some pencils for the kids. All you teachers do is bitch and complain, and when that 6th period bell rings, all you primadonas are sprinting to your cars in the parking lot to get home, at 3..

Really Waaaa? You sound very educated. You're right...pencils aren't all that important. Even though your tax dollars are paying for students to learn, we should continue to use the money for administrator salaries rather than classroom supplies. Telling someone to SHUT UP because they are complaining on a public forum is ignorant. BTW, I teach first grade and I get to work each day by 7:30 am and I don't leave to get home to my husband & 4 children until 4:30 pm each day. I value your right to your opinion. However, the teachers at my school site are hard working professionals who work FOR the children. Would it hurt for you to show a little respect for education AND the educator?

The vocal complaints of a few....
Yet there are hundreds of very good, dedicated and team player teachers in the district, "Shut-up" may not have been adequately sensitive, however is on point. When will you whiners wake up and discover you really are in an extreme minority - perhaps you will go pout in a corner or something like that - please?
NLMUSD is in performance Improvement and declining enrollment...Dr Perez is just the right person to pull us out and give our district back some credibility - I say give her a big raise for having to deal with you whiners!

I know the NLMUSD.

Pepperdine University recently released a study of all districts in California. It is a simple study.

On page 1281 NLMUSD is reported to have spent PER PUPIL $24.00 on text books. It spent PER STUDENT $1,454.00 for CONSULTANTS.(20,000 students yes that works out to 30 million dollars.)

ABC district, page 125, spent $378 p/p on CONSULTANTS.

Buena Park, page 309, spent $402 on CONSULTANTS.

LAUSD, page 1055, spent $2,447.00 on CONSULTANTS.(600,000 students = over a billion.)

When governor Brown comes to your door begging and threatening school budgets.

The state budget balance is easy. A One Year Moratorium on all consultants in all 960 state districts.

Our schools and budgets will do very well for one year without the Schlechty Institute "Shakin' Down the School Districts.

We have been SADIED, Madlyn Hunterized, BCLAD, WOWed, STARed, SASI or trained in Blood Pathogens. Next year ... let the retired administrators hitch their ponies to the post and sit down for spell.

One year without consultants.

This is nuts.

For the cost of consultants there couuld be 300 more teachers AND 300 more classified?

Where did you see this Pepperdine Report?
PARENTS LET US UNITE

Parents need to read the board agenda!!!!! It is online. Most of it is a yawn, but the devil is in the details. We need to come to the board meetings!!!!! We need to let them know who is in carge of this district, and it's not them!!!!!! Not only are people continuing to get raises, they are hiding it, hoping we won't find out. Fellow parents, there are more raises set to be given on Monday night, May 9th, 2011, To the two top positions in food services, yet my kids have to wait in line longer because this same top person slashed the cafeteria workers in the district. We now know how she afforded her raise. We elect these board members, we can elect new ones in November. Parents unite!

You are a teacher in the NLMUSD right. Then you do know that the President of the US makes $400k instead of your posted $250k. This was started with George W. years ago. Guess you need to check your facts before you post.

How long do you stay after work without pay? Would you ask your doctor or attorney to work late without pay? I think not! Why don't you as a parent supply what your child needs? Insead of complaining yourself, why don't you donate pencils for your child's class? By the way, in your quote,
Shut up you complainer," is this the way to talk to people? Your husband/wife, your child? Or do you hide behind a computer. If you do have a problem, face it and talk face to face with the person who you think has "wronged you."

I'm wondering - has TANLA cut their Union Dues? NO? I am so surprised....yet they(confused) have the gall to question and whine about everything else in the district....meanwhile union Execs dine at fancy restaurants and such on the dues collected....seem right to you?
Pencils...phewy...
The superintendent salary is a matter of public record - overstating it by 20% is a bit ridiculous don't you think? Especially since it is 10% less than the last Superintendent.
