I have 2 kids that play and we have been playing for 3 years now. Overall it's a good program there is room for improvement as with most programs.

I think the Board may need some new blood in there and no I am NOT talking about Dwight.

I loved LMLL and loved the people that ran it. They have alot of drive to keep this program running. My kids are to old to play and I am saddened by this, we had such great fun through the years (5-15). As long as the parents volunteer just like the board everything runs smoothly. ANYWAYS AS A PARENT MY OPINION IS THE BOARD REALLY KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, AND THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IS THE REASON WHY. If you go changing things this will no longer be the case. IF IT IS NOT BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

There are some great people on the board for sure but there are about 6 members that became members for personal gain (or husbands personal gain as one of them claims). Those are the ones who need to get the "heave ho". Being on this board has many responsibilities- board duty for one. If your going to take the position, accept the responsibilities that come with the job and show up to meetings at the very least. Communication would improve if the board members would show up and know whats going on.

A few bad apples but the rest are a good group. I plan on enjoying the league for the next seven years and am considering getting involved next year. Maybe I'll get to replace a rotten apple!

There could be better communication. The rules for each division are different and not communicated clearly. Dwight, good guy, appreciate that he's out there ALL the time but it seems he needs to get up, drive around (in that cool cart) and make sure things are running smoothly on the fields. And stop smoking around the kids and snack bar!! disgusting!!!

Several Board Members hang out at the snack bar puffing away, right next to the kids, it is disgusting. I have even seen them smoking at the fields. GROSS!!:(

To Minor C Parent and Baseball Mom-
When you play sports in La Mirada each parent/manager/coach/official/ participant has to sign a La Mirada Youth Sports Code of conduct. In it it clearly states..

Will not use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products while at youth sports event and will not attend or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

So NO ONE should be smoking at the fields. I saw a womem smoking at a game last night, standing right behind the kids!! Come on people. Just because you have chosen to shorten your life span by smoking we should not have to be subjected to it, especially my kids!!

My son played on a LM Winter team and more than half of those parents smoked. They stood just behind the bleachers and puffed for most of the game. I found it disgusting that they couldn't wait 90 minutes for a game to finish to smoke. I've seen these same parents at games this season and they are still puffing away. Rather than confront them myself, who should I talk to/complain to??

That's the hard part... I confronted a parent and they did not have a problem, they went up to the parking lot, she explained that she didn't know.

Then I confronted a COACH at a TINY T game and he told me he knew he should not be smoking on the field but that he sees the Director of T BAll smoking on the field. And then he made the comment, "some friendly league".

It's a tough situation because the Board Members that you should go to, are smokers themselves and are guilty of smoking around the kids.

I have sent emails in the past to the Athletic Counsel and I plan on sending emails/phone calls to the City Counsel next.

I have nothing against smokers, just don't do it around kids. At least take it to the parking lot.

The Athletic Counsel president said this...

Please send a letter to the LMLL president and copy the LMAC.

Anyone with a problem with the smoking at the fields PLEASE send a letter to La Mirada Little League and send a copy to the La Mirada Athletic Counsel.

Thank you and our kids will thanks us.

The LMLL rule in the Manager Handbook states: The use of tobacco in any form is prohibited on or near the game or practice field.

The La Mirada Girls Softball rule is: 100 feet away from homeplate.

Interesting... Does the LMLL rule apply only to MANAGERS? I would think not. Thanks for the info

so the rules are there, they just need to be enforced.
Do they have this problem at LMGSA too?

Just found the text in the Handbook on the LMLL website

Conduct
Managers are to conduct themselves in a professional and adult manner at all
times. Please keep this in mind when having discussions with players,
umpires, other managers, parents, etc. You are a representative of La Mirada
Little League, please act accordingly. The use of alcohol or illicit narcotics is
strictly prohibited at the field. Use of alcohol/ illegal drugs or alcohol present
on a Manager or Coach’s breath at the playing or practice field is grounds for
immediate removal from the league. The use of tobacco in any form is
prohibited on or near the game or practice field.

so the snack area is ok... it should actually read. ...prohibited on or near the game, practice field or within 100 ft of any children. (100 ft rule, taken from the LMGSA rule)

NOT OK!! 3 reasons:
1. Beringer's snack bar IS within 100 ft. of a field.

2. Smoking around food is disgusting.

3. If the LL director and board members are doing that, what kind of message or example is that sending?

It's not really the letter of the law but the spirit of the law that should be enforced.
