Those housing projects were packed together close to the port so that black laborers could walk to their jobs at the port. New Orleans did the same disasterous thing. Subsequently, generations of the same families permenently live in "the projects" (without the babies' daddies, if known, being present, of course). Female children became pregnant out of ignorance and/or because it would assure a "free life" for another generation.(The U.S. taxpayers even provide free breakfast and lunch to everyone under the age of 18 in Galveston during summer, regardless of proven need or residency.)

Rebuilding those projects prove that racism and all the well-known bad that goes along with it still exists in Galveston.
