I always looked forward to the train stopping at La Junta when traveling to Santa Fe. I loved the smell of the air. Maybe it was the relief of traveling through Kansas all night.:-)
I am a 60 yr old Anglo male on a disability pension. I am looking for a relaxed place to live out my final years. I grew up and lived most of my life in a big city and am just tired of the strife. I just want a place with a nice coffee shop where I can sit and talk to people. I am looking to buy a cheap house there, but don't want to wind up someplace where loud music emanates from cars or houses. I can live most anywhere, but rude neighbors bring out the worst in me. La Junta appeals to me from what I have read about it and the feeling I got when I passed through it. Sometime in the near future I will be visiting and looking at some houses, as I said, cheap ones, and probably close to the center of town. From what I gather the taxes and utilities are not bad there. Being on a fixed income I am looking for such things to stay relatively stable. Can I get some input on where I should avoid? |

La Junta is perfect for you! Great coffee, company and all around place to live. We LOVE it here!
I forwarded this link to Ron Davis and he can recommend a few places I'm sure. Welcome! |

Thanks for the nice words...and you are right. La Junta is a great place to Live, Work and Visit! Might check out the following web sites: www.LaJuntaEconomicDevelopment.net www.VisitLaJunta.net www.LaJuntaEvents.com Economic Development site lists all of the realtors on the properties page. Lot of properties available at a great price. Would not worry too much about areas to avoid...there aren't many and you would certainly be the best judge of that when you visit. Visit La Junta and Events give you a nice snapshot of restaurants and events. Feel free to contact me when you decide to come. |

I grew up in Rocky Ford but always prefered La Junta. Bigger town, County Seat and more to do. I still have friends there and always feel at home there, connected. Nice little town with friendly people, a hospital, some shopping and services. I live and work in CA but could see myself retiring there. CA has been good to me but I feel no obligation to stay. Too expensive.

I lived in La Junta from 1963 to 1966. I was in the Air Force and stationed at La Junta Bomb Plot. These were some of the happiest days of my life. I married my wife there. She was born in La Junta. I have always considered moving back. We now live in New Mexico and have for 40 years.

Thank you for the responses. I am making a serious effort to relocate to La Junta.
Have been there once a month ago looking at some houses. Drove on 350 from Trinidad to get there. That is certainly a long stretch of nothing. Which probably keeps La Junta nice.:-) Will be there again next week and hopefully something will happen. |
