This is a crazy move. Moving a local paper to another town to make it more cost effective. It's not the Gering Courier if it's published in Scottsbluff! Just blame it on the economy.

The Gering Courier is part of the history and development of Gering in particular, but also of the North Platte Valley. The offices should remain in Gering and are very important to the community.
My ancestors have been a part of the Omaha area since 1859, and I love Eastern Nebraska, but after moving to Western Nebraska in 1955, I began to see that "Western Nebraska is considered a poor relative" by Eastern Nebraska businesses. Even delivery of the Omaha World Herald (except by the postal system) only comes to Kearney, which is considered the last place of importance in Nebraska.
My mother has spent 80 years reading the Omaha World Herald, and for the last 10 years--going to church and reading the Sunday Edition--were the main parts of her day. She read it from cover to cover. Now, even if she received it via the post office, she couldn't read it until Tuesday. Why couldn't the Sunday Edition be delivered to at least newstands to the "real part" of Western Nebraska?
It seems like the Omaha World Herald is controlling the people of Western Nebraska, and most of all discounting our heritage and the feelings of people in Gering and the North Platte Valley.
Please reconsider and give us back the Gering Courier. It is part of who we are.

Let's update this. The two employees of the Gering Courier quit the Omaha World Herald and started a newspaper in Gering - the Gering Citizen. Ok, it's not the Courier but the founder of the Gering Courier AB Wood would be proud. These two gentlemen believe in community. Let's just hope the City of Gering and its citizens support this one.

very true..I love western nebraska. There is a beauty to those open spaces and remote places. Eastern Nebraska is too crowded and too humid.

The first one was fired, the second quit. Interesting that most of the "supporters" of it "staying" in a run-down office building weren't subscribers...and do note that only 2 employees weren't based in Scottsbluff. It's been at least 5 years since all others were transitioned with no problems.
Problem is...too many people are quick to respond to stirred up controversary and lies. Of course, Jim isn't known for his ethical news values, is he?

Wow! This may be "my comment" and he/she might be from Missouri, but this sure reads like it was written by one of the snipes at Brand X newspaper, complete with misspellings.
The Citizen is community journalism done right.

Daily Horoscope for December 6

Sagittarius

You still prefer to be in a world of your own, in which nothing nasty is happening, but at least you're feeling a little more realistic than you were yesterday. It's a perfect day for visiting somewhere beautiful, peaceful or relaxing, or for going to the cinema or an art gallery. But it will be difficult to get up the energy for any prolonged Christmas shopping.
