This should have come about years ago, the state I was born in has always put your social security number on your drivers licence, and that is what should have been done in all states, then you don't run into the problem getting so terribly out of hand like it has now. If it had been adopted in the beginning, it wouldn't have ended up costing the state millions to fix it and it will just wait and see.

I'm a daughter of immigrants, and I don't see why people have such a problem with this requirement. I don't know why immigrants who come here ILLEGALLY claim to have so many rights either. You should see what they do to illegal immigrants in MEXICO: http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/related/125249

My dad recently spoke with an illegal immigrant who was working for a Springfield countertop installation company, and the man told him that illegal immigrants from Mexico are coming to Oregon in larger numbers lately because it's easy for them to obtain a driver's license here as opposed to other states. There you have it straight from the horse's mouth.

I just think if people want to be in this country, they need to abide by its laws.

I am sick and tired of my hard-earned tax dollars going to pay for the education, medical bills, and other expenses of illegals! We need that money for our citizens and their children or for legal residents. What about the Mexican women who wait until they are almost 9 months along in their pregancy and then cross the border so their child can be born on American soil---and therefore be a legal resident---and at the expense of our dollars to pay the cost of the birth, hospital stay, and any problems which arise during the birth! Babies who are born on American soil who have at least one parent who is a legal resident or a citizen should be allowed to have citizenship, but if both parents are illegals, then that child should not be allowed automatic citizenship without some kind of legal process.

My parents come from Costa Rica, but they came here legally back in 1966, they worked hard to come here and had my sister and I many years after they were here, they have always paid taxes and both my dad and I have both served in the armed services. My parents have worked hard to find there place as American citizens in this country. It's not right that illegals just hop the border and expect that they can demand rights! If they are in this country illegally they are criminals and should be treated as such. I am absolutly for documentation that can prove your legal residency in this country.

I short,.. I agree with "Booklover"..

ALL U.S. driver's should have to show which state they were born in. THAT's how it used to be.

If you must have day laborers from other countries; they should not have driver's licenses or be allowed to do business. Their bosses should have to shuttle them and pay them.

Maybe THAT way we can be more assured they don't overstay their VISAs. The labor should be TEMPORARY with a start and finish date and the laborers should be escorted out of county. And NO, repeat NO family here while they are working.

It's funny. We were advised by a STORE CLERK, NOT to put our SSNs on driver's licenses that have to be shown to buy goods in stores. The good reason was that crooked clerks who were not caught were using people's SSNs in identity theft.

We have since changed our driver's licensenumbers to randomly made numbers and letters. It is also against the LAW in some states for an educational institution to ask for your social for that very same reason.

People who do business with you can tell who you are with another number. There is absolutely NO reason you need for anyone but banks and military facilities for a military person to know your social.

They made a BIG mistake in government the first time Lyndon Johnson allowed the government to raid people's social security for general funding.

It was accepted FOR YEARS that a notarized special copy of a birth certificate was all you needed to prove U.S. citizenship.

Now with the event of digital computers, a person who doesn't pay too much attention can mistake a FAKE one for a real one. In some places now a notary is not even enough. Maybe local governments should start making birth certificates like money--so unusual they can't be just copied.

That, and proof that you can see clearly, hear clearly and are otherwise physically capable; AND that you have gone through driver's training--THAT is what you should need. Forget this "legal residence" crap. THAT is what's getting us trouble in the first place.

Jeez, I forgot NATURALIZED citizens. They should have a copy of their home birth certificate AND the document -from the swearing in ceremony- that they are U.S. citizens.

As for the rest, how about this. Europe has "international driver's license". You STILL have to be able to read the manual at the laison's offices to know the local driving laws, signs and fines. It seems so simple. Why have we complicated things?
