I heard that they will not be allowed to throw candy out during the Christmas parade. Does anybody know if that is true or not? If it's true, that is terrible. The kids love that part of the parade. I don't think that people come to look at vehicles in the parade. Catching the candy is like Halloween. Whether you eat the candy or not, you still want to do it.

They are having "Reindeer Games" again this year at Sergeant's Park after the parade is over. I understand Santa will be there and there will be games for the kids and candy/hot chocolate, etc.

I assure you 100% candy will be thrown out at the parade this year. However there will be some restrictions on how it is done.

No candy will be thrown from the cars. Only people walking the parade route will be allowed to throw candy.

The most important part of this is, everyone must be back off the road, at least 15 feet from the parade itself or the candy throwers will have been advised to stop throwing candy until the people get back.

There are going to be a lot of security people walking the parade route to make sure people stay back. All this is being done in this manner for safety reasons.

If any of you remember last years parade, it was plumb dangerous as the kids and adults alike ran out to the vehicles and even in between vehicles to pick up candy.

There have been talk about discontinuing the candy because it was so dangerous last year. But the parade committee decided to try it this way one time to see if it can be controlled and done in a safe manner.

If the people attending the parade get out of hand on this, this will probably be the last year for candy.

Watch R L Gibson's show Monday night, I think someone will be on talking about this.

For sure before the parade date, there will be someone on there discussing this and other issues about the parade. Also, there will be many notices in the papers and on WLAF tv and radio stations in the local area.

I can understand if they will not allow the person driving the car to throw candy so they can pay attention to the road and the people around them. But it makes no sense that passengers or people in the back of trucks or on floats not being allowed to throw candy.

There are police officers at every intersection. Instead of having 30 people cars in the parade, why not have those extra officers actually working and patrolling the parade and keeping kids back? That would make the most sense. People don't care about seeing that many police cars in the parade anyway.

This is why LaFollette can't ever have anything fun. Someone always has to ruin it for everybody. It is bad enough that they have let the merchants in town dictate that the parade be at night instead of day time. Too bad Jacksboro don't have a parade.

Besides, if they aren't going to patrol it, what does it matter? Throw what you want. Who will notice and what will they do anyway?

The parade committee decide three day parades and three night parades. IMO I think they need to stick to day before a child is killed. The city isn't lit up enough for the night.
