I live in LaFollette, but outside of the city limits. We take reasonable care of our yard and house, but the people who live next to us doesn't. It's not terribly bad, just mildly irritating to see their clutter all the time. It's not trashy just cluttered. Do I say something or just keep my mouth shut?

I agree. But when do we as neighbors get involved. These women have kids (single parents from what I can tell) but I don't think the clutter is having any effect of the kids. I just can't decide whether to report it to the health department and/or DCS.

I empathize with you. That's a delicate situation. Once you alert the authorities though, there is no going back so make certain that is something you can deal with for the long haul.

If they are single parents or are in need of help why not offer help. Whether it's friendly help maintaining the yard or just doing anything that could help. Not saying anything bad but some people could use help even a small amount. And yeah once it's reported to authorities there is no going back. I would offer help and depending on that outcome I would go further if I had to.

To tell you the truth if the kids are well taken care of and no drugs are involved why would you call DCS or the health department? It can be easier if you just talk to the neighbors, but do it in a polite way in that you are not being rude. I have seen the DCS called on good parents who were just messy and it was because the neighbors were just nosy and inconsiderate. So think about that before you make that call on who it can hurt in the long run.

I'd say you got one yard, not two. If you want her land, make an offer. Who knows, she must may be fed up with her brain fried, toothless, nosy ass, std having, patner swapping, wretched creeping pillbilly neighbors anyway. I mean, its just a thought. lol

i agree with approach her first and be tactful when you do. offer help. if she takes it though don't let her make it a habit of turning you into her yard slave though. sometimes you offer help and that's great.. and they appreciate it at first, then they end up (over time) expecting you to do it for them all the time (whatever it may be - just using this as an example)

true though. when you see a cluttered even trashy yard and single parent or not, you get a bit concerned with how maybe the kids are made to be living inside. like that hoarders show. my kids don't leave a mess in the yard as I taught them to always pick up their things and be organized, and I AM a single parent.

it's depressing to see mess everywhere. and, if you're trying to sell or your place and you live next to trashy/cluttered yard/home it IS a big deal, k. good luck.

Calling DCS should be your LAST option. It's their yard, if it's not hurting you and the kids are fine.. well maybe you should plant a few shrubs or something.

Worry about your own yard!! It's their property.. They own it and I think they should keep it the way they want it.. Why on earth would you call DCS?? I would be ashamed of even thinking that!! Because there is clutter in the yard does not mean a child is in danger..

there are laws about people having trashy yards. not sure what defines 'trashy yard' pertaining to those laws, but there's supposed to be fines etc imposed on homeowners (building owners, also) for cluttered/trashy junk strewed all over their yards. think there's supposed to be a written warning first... with a goal date for it to be cleaned up,'or else'? whatever though. look at bairds properties. then you understand why anyone else that lives like trash junk and clutter eye sores all over their yards is allowed to do so DESPITE laws.'shit rolls down hill'. all these people on here backing trashy yards are living trashy themselves - that's why the defensiveness. nasty.

The 'defensiveness' stems from this, ye generation of vipers...
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with allthy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matt. 22:37-40
But go ahead. Call DHS over a 'cluttered' yard. You will reap what you sow.
