Our county gets a bad rap from just about everybody around. We have problems with drugs, Social Security scams, crooks and poverty. But every where else I've ever been has the same problems. Some problems aren't as bad as ours, some are worse than ours. This county wasn't always like this, though. When I grew up here, even as a kid I knew just about everybody in the Pinecrest/Jacksboro area (or who there family was). Me and my buddies could wonder the fields and ridges without any thought of danger from another person. People helped each other, and had respect for their neighbors. When I was a kid I could squirrel hunt just about anywhere as long as you asked permission and rarely did anyone ever say no. We could go fishing and have a good time without vacationers blowing by in a boat big enough to cross the Atlantic or a jet skier messing with you. Now there's subdivisions and metal buildings sitting empty all around. People used to throw up their hand when they passed on the road out of habit. Girls mostly acted like young ladies and acted as such and they expected a certain amount of respect from their boyfriends or the boy got chucked. I don't remember when we lost our community pride or exactly why, but it doesn't make sense to me why we put ourselves down or stand by and let others do so. Most of us grew up without much and didn't really expect too much to be given to us. But we did grow up with a work ethic. Our fathers and mothers got up every day and worked hard and that taught us what to expect in life. Not to be rich in dollar amount but rather rich in enjoying what you do have, not worry about what you don't have or even need. The population has exploded in our area and no one hardly knows anyone anymore. There are good people here, but only the ones that mess up or is a degenerate gets any attention. I know I'm getting older (the 70's and 80's when I was a kid) and things change, but people please take pride in who you and we as a people are. This can be a wonderful place again if we just try to make it that way. Support our leaders , neighbors and do what it takes to run off the unwanted scum from among us. I am from Campbell County and I'm proud of it.

im sorry to hear that you're proud of a bad, run-down place. It's not your generation that made it bad, its your children's generation. its YOUR generation that should have taught your kids how to work, and the terrible-ness of welfare. You seem decent, but when Ohio ppl like me come down, all we see is fk up, after fk up. It's not like it used to be because that's probably everywhere you go. It'll never go back to that same way either. It'll keep getting worse and worse the more your kid's generation and their kids keep fkn up

I'm sorry, but no. Not "everywhere" is the same. Keep telling yourself that to feel better, but it's hugely ignorant. Not "everywhere" can claim #1 county of the state in drug abuse and crime. I think what makes those stats worse is that it's supposed to be a 'laid back little down home town/county atmosphere' that's gone WORSE then the notorious Harlem NY, for example, in drug crimes PER CAPITA.

Your 'pie-in-the-sky' "this can be a wonderful place again if we just try to make it that way" is just that - pie in the sky. If it was TRULY interested in getting better, it wouldn't KEEP GETTING WORSE as it has and continues to do so. LOCAL LEVEL politics are far too addicted to their greed and corruption to keep up their greed to ever go there, and to large a part of it's population to drugged up to give a damn, and those not drugged up are too stuck in stupid to GET that they voted in, and KEEP voting in the trash that profits from bs'ing them into voting for them.

I'm sorry for your pain, but wake up. There are ghetto SECTIONS of major cities, but an entire county as ghetto? No. That distinction goes to CC TN. Be proud of it, fine, but you're doing so KEEPS it ghetto. Not many will claim PRIDE for that, but obviously the majority of you do, that's why it will NEVER recover from 'what used to be'. You did it to yourselves, OWN IT, and THEN possibly, you stand a chance - but, that will never happen. The LAST thing CC is about is owning up to being their own driving force behind their self-inflicted destruction.

Not to the immense degree that 'quaint little tourist county' does. Massive Ghetto. Fix it? Go right ahead.. run for Mayor, and make those changes start happening. No? Then STFU and vote the same greed addicted ignorant trash you KEEP voting in that got CC to where it is today.

If you hate it so much in Campbell County, then why do you come back here? Is someone making you come down here? Do they have a gun to your head? I really don't understand why you have so much hate in your heart for people you don't even know. If someone here in Campbell County done something that bad to you, then again, why do you chose to come back here in the summer? Stay in Ohio, I promise no one will miss you.

The reason Campbell County stays this way is because the druggies, welfare scum, and general low lifes feel very comfortable here.

Example: if you are filthy, have rotten teeth, are buying your groceries via EBT in Campbell County, nobody is going to look down on you or say anything to you publicly. You can live a comfortable, judge-free (at least to your face) existence here. Other cities and especially stores, restaurants, etc., wouldn't treat you as well.

If you want a real and permanent change in this county, make it uncomfortable for them. Watch how fast they leave.

I'm also sick of seeing these drugged up teens giving birth to half blind, retarded babies. The punishment for giving birth to a drug baby should be prison.

and i think that my people coming down there will really make a big difference. I see how shitty your county is. And then about a month before we all come down, you're all in preparation for US TO ARRIVE!! we're celebrities to you people. I agree with you tripp!!! If you make an unperfect baby, OFF WITH YOUR HEAD FOR NOT TAKING CARE OF IT IN THE WOMB. Hitler not only killed jew's, he killed fags, and the less than perfect people. like handicaps. Shit. If Hitler got ahold of you guys, 98% of campbell county would be empty. Not a car on the road. EVERYONE would perish. AWWWSOME AS FUCK!!! but then I'd move my friends and their families down there, and we'd turn it into a giant ass theme park. We'd have to demolish and burn all the houses from the drugs, and the rotting people inside, but it'll be a nice place for something as big as disneyland

The reason Campbell County stays that way is because of poverty and how rural the area is. There is vast wilderness in campbell county and its very easy to get out of eyeshot of other people. That and a cash strapped local government that barely has enough money to put police on the street makes it ripe territory for criminals.

And it stays in poverty because why? Generations passing down the welfare lifestyle. If your grandparents, parents, you, and now your children are on food stamps, that's no accident. And there is plenty of that here.

What you are describing is called "Culture of poverty." Its a societal problem, not a Campbell County issue. CC stays in poverty because there are not enough resources to accommodate its endogenously clannish residents. People who's family have lived in CC for generations are unwilling to move across the country to where the jobs are is what is causing their poverty and dependence on government assistance. Welfare doesn't cause poverty. They were poor before they ever applied for government assistance. Welfare used to give people free rides, but that stopped with the introduction of the TANF system which limits welfare benefits to a lifetime maximum of 5 years.
